Also, yet to see the Jamo incident, but sounds like he's already been hung and quartered

Yep. Quarterbrain is all over it.

Did Walks, JR or Gibbs play? Havent heard any mention of them.

Walker played but couldn't get near it. Had a shocker. JR didn't play and Gibbs played but looked to be cruising.

Yarran - terrific drive off half back. Once again we looked to give him the ball at every opportunity.
Judd - took it easy, still showed he can zip away from a pack
Simpson - poor disposal today IMO - those in the Pratt stand would have heard the thud from the coaches box after he turned it over and Adelaide went down the other end and goaled.
Murphy - Only played the first half, took it easy
Gibbs - midfield all day really, took it easy
Scotland - HB/wing, typical scotland game
Waite - One of the best on ground, he looks to be really attacking and splitting open packs this year.
Walker - Played on S Stevens, couldn't get near it really
Betts - Cruise control but still showed some class
Garlett - Incredible timing for the crumb
Robinson - There were situations when he won the ball and you thought he'll thump it long without looking short - today he actually took a little extra time and picked the short option. Got to love how hard he goes at the ball
Thornton - played ok up forward
Ellard - good in and under
Collins - Not quick or flashy but a smart footballer who has good disposal
White - played third tall and wasn't convincing one on one, was better floating across as a loose man
Bower - looked good running off back but still couldn't win a one on one with Taylor Walker. Although Walker is a gun.
Laidler - Excellent reading of the play/spoiling. Quite a neat left footer. I think would have to be very close to round 1.
Warnock - Don't think he played much in second half. Won lots of hitouts.
Armfield - Good chasing, kicking still a bit hit and miss
Lucas - Disposal is still a bit average IMO, should play the percentages.
Hampson - Excellent overhead today, marked a lot more than he normally does.
Joseph - Some time on ground in second half
Jamison - On the lead with Walker he did well, in a wrestle like Bower he got beaten

Good effort. Best for Carlton- Yarran, Judd, Hampson bought us back into the game when in the ruck, Collins was good. Jeffy was hard at it and Duigan was impressive. Thornton worked hard and Tambling gave us plenty of opportunities. Liked the look of Curnow as well. His clean hands in close will be a big bonus.

Also to add that Duigan was impressive- has football brain.

Curnow played 2nd half & shows promise.

The stand outs for me were Yarran, Waite, Warnock, Hampson, Laidler, Garlett & Robbo

There were plenty of tweaks to the gameplan. Loads more pressure on the ball carriers and we forced lots of turnovers. We used a spare man in the back fifty rather than around the stoppages like last year. Yaz was great in that role. Will be interesting to see how we manage to keep him free this season.

We pressed hard up the ground and had a lot of numbers in our fifty making it very hard for the crows to exit on their terms.
Later in the game those structures began to fail. I hoping that is because we are working hard on the track at the moment and were so worn out in the second half that we couldnt play as we did in the first.

Hampson was our best ruckman. His hitouts were more effective and he took a few big grabs. Got his hands to a few more. Seems to mark the ball when speared with a low trajectory at him or the pack. The high kicks that land on his head bounce out.
We won more clearances with him in the ruck.

Not sure about Curnow. Poor kicking.

Liked our backline when the team in front of it were doing their job and applying pressure. When that faded they were left a little exposed and goals were scored by the crows.

Thornton played a good game as a forward.

thought yarran was clearly bog. created so much of the play from half back. was a pleasure to watch him and one thing i noticed was that he looked the fittest he ever has.

was also impressed with duigan. hard at it, quick and nice disposal by foot.

not a bad hit out overall.

Only a praccy matc but some good signs, we played one of teh most drilled and disciplined sides in the AFL.

Yazz was BOG, not be weight of disposals but on how he used the ball - i think he shanked 1 kick and it still hit T-Bird on the chest - cut pathways though the defence

Duigan backed himself with his running and looked good, left his player on a few occassons and made some real good contests

Collins - really happy here, i think we may have a very good long term player and I think he snagged a couple

Laidler - got better as the game went on, took a couple of well judged marks, looks like he loves to always get back ont his left foot

Garlett - clever crumbing game

T-Bird - as a big critic of his, i though his game was very good especially the 1st & last, still like those dinky nothing chip kicks

Wobbo - still a freakin' lunatic, went okay and only got cleaned up twice today

Hammer - I thought struggled in the first half, but a strong second half

Bower- the Crows tried to isolate especially under the high ball, did okay and provdied some good run - he and White seemed to run into each a couple of times in defence - communication?????

Ellard - soild without being spectacular

Walker - struggled, nice to see his shoulders not taped up, sign of confidence that his body may not be hampering now???

From memory we lined up something like (not 100% sure, but close to the markl I think)

B Laidler Jamo White

HB Duigan Bower Yazz

C Simmo Gibbs Scotland

HF Collins WAite Thornton

F Robbo Walker Arma

R Warnock Judd Murphy

I: Lucas, Ellard, Garlett, Hammer, Betts

Players who appreared in teh second half were Jospeh, Davies and Curnow

I'll sum the game up in one word: Yarran

It wasn't just his scintillating speed, nor his sublime evasive skills, nor his hard tackling, nor his perfect delivery of the ball.....it was his leadership and direction across half back which really stood out. One example in the last quarter comes to mind. We were going sideways a bit and a Crow was guarding Yaz and another Blue (can't remember who it was). Quickly realising something had to be done he started sprinting towards our player with the ball which drew the Crow. As he was leading and knowing that the Crow was following him, he without turning his head pointed over his shoulder, knowing he had now enabled his teamate to be in the clear. No stat but a coach would love this. He just has a real inate feel for the game. Was a pleasure to watch.

We didn't look like we got out of 3rd gear today.
Just going through the motions.
There were some penut supporters there...
I had to move.

Yarran is a star!
Jamo played very well too.

The crowd reacts when Yarran gets the ball, they get excited the way he takes the game on and slices his way through heavy traffic

If Hammer starts holding a few it would be a confidence booster and he might just start holding a lot more :smoking:
