Not a big fan of Bower. Can't see how you could pick him before Jamo, White ... even Thornton.

Not in my best team ... reckon he will be traded in October ... :smoking: :smoking:

Lots of bower bashers on here!

I think he's deffo part of our best back six at the moment.

If watson AND white both really come on then maybe he could be squeezed out, but unlikley.

he's a truly versitle defender in that he can play tall or small.

He looks very uncordinated when he runs forwards whcih doesn't help him - really needs to work on his decision making but i'd much rather someone like bower taking the game on than a thorton slowing things down and going sideways all the time.

Jammo and Bower are our only genuine tall defenders, with watson, white, thorton and austin next in line.

Injuries really robbed him half of last season.

it's only Feb and he'll get back into the groove with a few more games.
We need Bower for the more agile forwards.

B: Armfield Jamison Laidler
HB: Yarran Bower Russell
C: Duigan Gibbs Lucas
HF: Simpson Waite Houlihan
F: Betts Walker Scotland

FOLL: Warnock Judd Murphy

IC: Hampson Garlett Carrazzo

SUB: Robinson Watson McLean or Ellard

Ellard hasn't done anything wrong, and Robbo seems to have improved and in favour by the coaches. McLean owes us though.

My Round 1 team after 1 round of who cares series.

FB: Yarran, Jamo, Laidler
HB: Duigan, Bower, Russell
C: Lucas, McLean, Simpson
HF: Garlett, Henderson, Robinson
FF: Walker, Waite, Betts

RCK: Warnock, Judd, Murphy

INT: Ellard, Hampson, Scotland

SUB: Armfield

I want Watson in but Bower should be given first shot at CHB.

White is the other I'm keeping an eye on in place of Laidler.

Duigan just reminds of in movement of Andrew McKay. I think he will adapt over the next month to earn that spot ahead of Armfield, of whom I'm using as the sub in the role of burst player.

No Gibbs?

Hendo more than 50/50 for round 1?

Interested to see a lot of you have a non-ruck as the sub? Any thoughts on this?

If everyone is fit:

B: Laidler, Jamieson, Watson
HB: Russell, Bower, Yarran
C: Simpson, Gibbs, Murphy
HF: Houlihan, Henderson, Walker
F: Betts, Waite, Garlett
Foll: Warnock, Judd, McLean

Int: Kruezer, Lucas, Armfield/Duigan, Carrazzo/Joseph

If Kreuzer or Hendo don't pull up then Hampson is in. If both miss, then maybe Setenta, or we play smaller, with both Duigan and Armfield, and one of Carrots/Joseph.

I see nearly everyone has Waite at either FF or CHF. I reckon he's a chance to do a Fraser gehrig & go from very good key defender to outstanding FF. With Fev out for the year, Barry Hall only a torn calf away from retirement & Brown struggling to play out a full season after 10+ years of crashing & bashing, I'm amazed tab sportsbet have him at 50-1 to win the coleman. Other sports books have him even longer. I managed to get him each-way at 67-1 at betchoice. When you see that TAB have Stevie J at 11s, Bradshaw at 15s & Jon Anthony at 26s, it's clear that Waite represents amazing value.

I have tried to pick a versatile team where the players can be thrown around to get the best match ups for us to play our game plan. Waite and White can play forward or back and be a plan C or D if an opposition forward gets on top or we want to flood back. I think Watson matches up best with KPP's and Bower as the third tall can provide a lot of run. Furthermore I thought that last year opposition teams sacrificed their forwards against Bower by dragging him to the pocket or flanks and knowing we had no other optionto play at CHB with Waite and Hendo up forward. Watson's left foot could be a very handy weapon from half back and if they try to drag him away from CHB by playing the CHF on the flanks then that will bring Bower back into the play.

I think we need a second ruck so depending upon fitness it's a choice between Kreuzer and Hampson. Kreuzer Hampson and Warnock can play at full forward and release White to play another role either further up the field at CHF releasing Waite or playing down back in case Jamison Bower or Watson are struggling.
The sub would be Duigan who could play down back on ball or in the midfield. I like the idea of Cacchia and Ellard as two tough in and under on ballers adding grunt to the midfield and letting Judd Gibbs and Murphy be able to play more outside at times. Whilst Carrazzo is a ball magnet and just keeps racking them up and with so many other players in the team with good skills he Ellard and Cacchia are three footballers who just keep getting the ball and feeding it out and can be run in bursts so there pace is not exposed.

I did consider using a ruckman as the substitute but thought that we need to get games into Hampson and Kreuzer so there is no point leaving them on the bench for the whole match plus with 12 or more midfielders and flankers there is more chance of one of them being injured and using Duigan without upsetting the balance of the team.

I am a bit concerned that Henderson and McLean may not be ready for round 1 and becuase of the roles they play have left them out.

Bloody tough to pick a team - cant find a spot for carazzo even though he is likely to be in the 22 somewhere.

Reasoning behind the decision making
1. 2 rucks are a must - gives an advantage when the opposition ruckmqn 'rests' - Hampson&Warnock both mobile enough, warnock can take a grab and hampson might take a grab
2. Watson - a must for fast tracking development
3. Robinson - ideal sub player to provide instant impact

Go to training or Bullants games and you will see why. Touhy's kicking is impressive, especially for a guy new to the game. IMO he would add to our run and decision making out of defence which we desperately need to go to the next level.

Darren Harris rates him in the best 3 kicks at the club.

am noticing that most of the mentioned teams have no AJ in them.
is the concensus that we may have seen the best of him?
has he been edged out already??

Don't think we've seen the best of AJ, but I think currently that he is battling with Carrazzo for the same spot, and the MC will play Carrots first.
Personally, I prefer AJ.

IS White fit? I thought he was a big loss last year with his reading of the play, disposal and marking opposition kicks. If he's fit that's another player I'd want along with Watson in the team, but it's too hard to fit everyone in.

I'm tipping injuries aside that if you don't show consistent form in the Challenge series, no matter your name, you'll be starting in the magoos.

Carrots in the box with Juddy Sat night, top 5 2010 B&F and one of seven only in the leadership group, you'll find one of Robbo, Army or McLean will not take his spot in that team (not in the short term, anyway), Chicken. I agree 100%, it is tougher to find him a gig in the 22. Picking the best 22 is very, very tough - what a good thing.

Agree Lucablue. Way over the odds. If we are to be the team we hope to be and finish in the top 4 Waite kicking 60+ goals will be a necessity. From what I have read, he is primed to be to the go-to- man
