He's not a bad bloke for a Richmond supporter! Played in 3 winning Grand Finals by the age of 22. Still remembered for what he did as a 19 year-old in 1979. Still remembered by me for signing numerous autographs and ruffling my hair, often while smoking a ciggie before or after a game.

Just some of my fave Hurricane Harmes moments:

* 1979 GF is a standout for obvious reasons,
* 1982 GF he kicked the 2nd goal of the game when he almost took out the goalpost and ran back as though nothing happened
* 1982 GF - after Bartlett had given McConville teh run around he was thrown on KB and I think it was the first contest and Harmes took a towering mark as KB back-pedalled to try and get the crumbs that never came
* 1982 Qual. Final - kicked 4 goals from the wing in a quarter of footy
* 1978 1st Semi - belting the sh*t out of Phil Carmen in front of the members stand
* 1981 GF when he took a screamer over Mark Williams at CHF at the Punt Rd end
* Countless screamers to recall all of them

What a player he was - great memories of the champ

Does this mean he is still a Carlton man? He could be a Tiger spy.

He still loves the Blues, in particular his teammates from his time at the club.

Loves the Tigers as well, his idol growing up was Kevin Bartlett. He had the unusual experience of not only playing against his idol in a Grand Final, but playing on him and coming up with victory!

He dislikes Collingwood with a passion as well!

One of the reasons that he has a soft spot for Richmond is that his Grandfather was Len Smith (older brother of Norm Smith) who coached Richmond prior to Tom Hafey taking over.

It is Norm Smith's wife (Wayne's Great Aunt) seen kissing Wayne after presenting him with the inaugural Norm Smith Medal.

Have many memories of Piggy.

Loved him when he was 17yo and at Carlton. Won the kicking comp in the GF in his first year. Had a great leap. Super fast. Perfect centreman...but then we had Jonno and the mosquito fleet back then.

Really great worker for CUB with one Jimmy Buckley  ...and highly regarded...oh yeah and his time respected.
In his front yard, smoking a ciggy and having a can 'waiting' to be called from office; they didn't and that was his working day.

What a bloke. Love him. Was my favourite 'new young up and coming' player in '79. I had high hopes and they came true...eventually I met him and shared a larger or two with him. Yes there's hero worship there.

He beat a mate of mine to win it. My mate was/is a massive Blues fan and I think it means more to him that he lost to Wayne Harmes, than if he'd won the comp.

He'd be ideal choice to umpire Saturday nights 3 way NAB Cup games then....

Recall all of the above also and agree 100% all the way.....
What a young tearaway tyro he was as a young player, had it all.
My top 2 of the above ,making Bartlett look like a total fool and that 82
Qualifying final where he blew Hawthorn away just about by himself.
Loved the way that at PP, as soon as he got the pill in the back pocket
area, Maclure would start to lead to him , as he knew Piggy would run 30
yards and then probably roost it 70 more in his direction.
Those were the days...... sigh.

If Harmes was playing today he would be a franchise player at any club and raking in massive $$$$$$$

Disppointed he never played 200 + games, injury didnt help and I reckon he retired too soon. Injury that he sustained early in the seosn cost him a place in the 1987 team, he just couldnt shake it in the end.
