I was watching my brother play junior footy but stayed dad's XF Falcon to listen to the game, and from this point onwards as a 12 year old I knew I hated Essendon*. I here-on despised the names Bewick, Grenvold, Thompson, Mercuri, Wanganeen and most of all Wallis.

Compounding my disgust was a 40+ year old Essendon* supporter came past the car to listen to the closing minutes, then gave me a barrage of Carlton hating spew.

I was 11 when I began hating Collingwood after a day out at Waverley (old for some granted), and just short of 13 when Essendon* joined the ranks of the unclean.

I was there. Top deck of the Southern, and Sticks marked and missed right in front of me...

I was playing suburban footy and I still remember some Essendon* supporters at my local club telling me that Kernahan had 'lost' the game for Carlton - I thought we lost and didnt know it was a drawn game until about an hour afterwards

About 3 rows back from the fence right next to Sticks, absolutely giving to 2 Essendon* supporters as he lined up the goals.

I made a pretty quick getaway.

Apart from the tragic ending I remember that being one of the better games I’ve seen

But the end was heartbreaking...idolised Sticks at the time

I dont know exactly where I was - (i was about 3 months old) but Mum knows exactly what dad did after that game - he was on the phone to "O'Brien's Windscreens" after he punched (and broke) the windscreen (from the inside of the car).

As he puts it not so much from the result of the game but because he couldnt tell from Rex Hunt's commentary whether we had actually won or lost or whether Kernahan had actually kicked a goal or point.

Was an amazing day actually...

I was competing in States for swimming at the now-no-longer state swim centre in Batman avenue. Heats were in the morning, finals (if you made them) at night.

Competed in the morning and made a few finals. Swam some great times and was pretty pumped for the night finals.

Headed to the G with my dad after the heats, got a spot top deck of the southern in the forward pocket. Yep *that* forward pocket. Incredible game, and was so pumped when Sticks marked the ball right on the siren.

Then.... gutted.

When back for the finals that night but just remember feeling so flat, couldn't get close enough to the times I'd swum in the heats and missed out on placings in events I figured I'd place in. Just remember feeling so deflated...

I went to the game with my brother, we had to leave at half-time to go to some family thing, may have been a christening. Anyway, train trip home took most of the second half, then we listened to 3AW's call, complete with Rex Hunt calling Dustin Flether Dustin Hoffman, with my sister and her Essendon* supporting then boyfriend now husband.

Lowlight of the day wasn't Sticks kicking out on the full, but my statement sometime during the first half that one day Wanganeen would win a Brownlow

The day would have been even lower if you predicted that Wanga would 'steal' the Brownlow from Diesel :banghead:

In the back seat with 4 mates driving back from Albury easter hockey carnival. Brilliant weekend boozing and playing for a team we called the Cunning Stunts, boozy trip back then.....the same, deflated. Got a few ribbings.....I'd pumped up Sticks big time.

Is this our version of pre-season? speaking of '93 I really didnt want to reminisce about the sunburn I got at the 'G, metres from Madden on Salmon by the end of the first qarter in the GF that year.......

exactly llike Agro Jr said, I was working a second job as a taxi driver ( god, i hated that job), and i couldnt make out if they won or lost, firstly i thought they won , but when i found out sticks missed everything i too punched the windscreen, lucky it didnt break, but my hand was sore for weeks.

First memory of hating Eseendon- when Neil Daniher kicked the last goals to beat us at PP, WITH AN 85 MINUTE LAST QUARTER. 1981 ?
