Swann is a fantastic "big picture" person. His grasp of the AFL industry is very good. His hands-on work as a day to day CEO is less comprehensive and his lack of detail has caused ripples of concern within the club at times.
If Brian Cook was available, they'd jump at him IMO.

So why is the club so insular and abrasive to the outside world...?

Why hasn't he sacked Coutts...?

Has he been lured into Sticks' boys club and set up a hammock..?

Dont confuse what I said about the communication dept with the discussion we've had here on training sessions. There have been pages of other issues in communication and memberships.

They're being dragged kicking and screaming into this new world of social media and communicating with fans via the internet.

He might be the CEO but he doesn't own the joint and he's not a Carlton person. I've no doubt he has to massage a few ego's, schmooze a few important people and get things done over an extended time frame.

His authority comes in large part from being "Pratts Man" as much as any formal position and I've no doubt there are some people in our great club who don't like being told what's what and having their influence diminished.

Hopefully, the club can keep progressing and Swann remains a part of it.

I'm not privy to any conversations from board members or club employees so I'll just tow the standard TC line of anything good is Swann's doing and anything bad is Kernahan's.

Thats the man they are interested in - one financial backer of the Blues has said that he will personally cover his salary if they can get him.

They aren't saying who should be selected or trying to develop a game plan of their own, its more a case of saying are we doing the best we possibly can. Have we got the best people available and are they performing to their optimum???

And how do they develop the expertise to answer these questions??? I understand some principles of business will transfer, but in other respects the types of decisions made in the football world will be very different.

Its not them doing the review of the football operations, its a former great from the club doing that part as you correctly pointed out its not in their skills set.

In a round about way I would suggest that Visy is doing the same for Swann.

If he can sign up Murphy within the next 6 months, I say extend Swann's contract for another 3 years....

Swanny was instrumental in getting Judd to the Blues.

Lets remember he gets paid shitloads so we should expect a few goals to be kicked by him.

I agree his next asignment should be Murph, and FFS I hope Kreuzer is secured too.

I have contacts deep inside the inner sanctum and i have been told that Ratten and Swann do not see eye to eye and that one of them will be gone by the end of the season.
