Going back a long, long way Billy Strickland played eight seasons with Carlton before he crossed to Collingwood (in 1893) and in 1897 became their first ever VFL captain. He was awarded Champion of the Colony (equivalent of Brownlow) at the Pies in 1896 and captained them to a flag that year. He returned to Collingwood in 1904 to become the Pies first coach.

Harold Rumney is another worthy of a mention. Rumney was cut by Carlton Football Club after 15 games in 2 seasons and transferred to Collingwood. His arrival at Collingwood in 1927 was fortuitous. He played in the four premierships between 1927–1930 and his fifth in 1935. He won the B&F in the Premiership year of '31.

Harold 'Dasher' Rumney was named in the back pocket in Collingwood’s Team of the Century and has to be one of the biggest losses/mistakes from Carlton in its 147 year history.

Ben Harrison for Justin Murphy.

Always like Ben because he won the Reserves' B & F and wore Rhys' number.

We let Dick Reynolds walk after training with us a few times. I read it in "We are the Navy Blues". 3 Brownlows & several Essendon* flags as both player & coach.

James Cook probably had a better career at the Bulldogs than he did with us.

EDIT: posted the above before I saw kk's post on pg 1. Oops.

..as with Kennedy, i think it's fair to say Jacobs should do well.. ..he could near ruck all game, with a pinch hitting KPF as 2nd ruck for when he rests on bench.. ..i think he should do well at the crows..

If we mention Phil Maylin's stint with the Bulldogs and Clen Denning's great career with Fitzroy, I think we'd have gone through 95% of those who've left us and done ok at other clubs.

Ricky Nixon was past his prime in his first game.

Agree - the speed of TC in this thread has compared favourably with the Blueseum brains trust taking a few days to come up with the same thing! (This is part of the reason why we like to post open questions here).

In the remaining 5% perhaps Jim 'Bull' Martin is worth a mention:

6 games at Carlton, before 120 odd at Essendon* and Fitzroy - and premierships at each...

From the Blueseum

Ben Harrison. Played only 2 games for Carlton and then was swapped for Justin Murphy. Went on to play a further 159 games at Richmond and the Bulldogs.

True, but Murphy probably played a similar number, including over a 100 with Carlton.
A nil all draw ?

Murphy was a far better player than Harrison.

Big win for us.

Still, to play 150 games after leaving Carlton is a pretty good career.
