Sticks mentioned last night that the club has been working on a strategic plan, and we will be told about it early next year. What should it contain?

On a more serious note, there needs to be a slightly elevated look at the structure of the balance sheet, as well as a focus on new revenue streams with particular note to the development potential at Visy Park.

I wouldn't mind seeing a reinvigorated media strategy for the club; less cheese-ball advertising (i.e. the use of media, not the slogans), and better handling of media conferences and journos in general. Playing favourites, hide the shell and not identifying sly questions have fuelled many a HS reporter's career.

I'm hoping they are reviewing the existing strategic plan and not starting from scratch.

Left a word or two out: 'slightly elevated need to look'

So saying reduce debt doesnt sound strategic enough for you?

Debt reduction is one of many many things to consider.

If you're talking about a strategic plan for a football club you're talking about all facets of the club - on field and off field. You'd need to have a clear end goal around each of these that say tie us into being considered equal best Victorian Club with plans focussing on;

- support structure for players / coaches (costs, development needs, factoring into budget)
- communications / management / executive (development, retaining the best, costs over time
- revenue generation (current sources + growth plans to fund all of the above and then manage balance sheet)
- debt management and reduction

Given where we are at we're 3 years in to a recovery of sorts; whether it was a recovery plan being fulfilled I'd doubt. It seems most additional cash is still going into player support and development and only the Club would know how far behind we are still in this regard - youd need to consider extra costs to bring up to the best over time and factor in how the hell you can pay for it.

We'd need to have a 10 year plan focussing on all of the above.

Current assets aren't looking flash either; the Club's got a lot of its total assets locked up in that facility. I hope we have a 3 to 5 year plan regarding debt reduction because there's not a great deal to worry about (assuming we're meeting our payment schedule).

I know this may sound very naive but at the next round of television rights (1 billion$) the AFL should wipe off all clubs debts. After all we are forced to play where and when they tell us, restrict who we can recruit and many other rules and regulations. If they really do believe in this socialist form of running the game then what better way than to have every club on a level playing field.

How to win an Effen premiership would suit me way before tax cuts, costings, out goings, in comings, penny saving, balance sheets, the grounds keeper, the strength of the Australian dollar, memberships, supporters at the gates, what colour jumpers we wear, why the sky is blue and the sea is green, why Abbott wears budgie smugglers, why Gillard is a Ranga, why, "why" is actaully spelt why ???. This is seriously a stoopid word that will have many ethnics thinking. No answers to any of these for me. Serves me right for cleaning dunnies for a living.

Just show me how we win the next premiership so I can stick it up my wife's @rse because she is a filth supporter (Collingwood). Work me a plan for this and I will kiss your feet. I don't give a fat rats clacker if its this season next season or 3 seasons in a row from 2013 on. Just give me a plan i can digest and believe. Not like the carp the Aussies are dishing up in the Ashes series. Weak as piddle and no heart to say the least.

Sorry guys I think I need a moment to relax and breath, with maybe some pillates. Might be time for a cup of green tea for me. :screwy:

Hold a meeting to come up with a plan. Just to plan on how we need another meeting to see how the plan is not happening, and update on when we should plan another meeting to see why the plan is failing. Stop planning and start winning.

Ohhhh my lord I did it again. Time for a beer I think. :donk:

I quite like this. I remember been out there for the Lions NAB Challenge match and thinking that the ground needs to be partially demolished. What i would do is demolish the Richard Pratt Stand and the old Elliot Stand (Cant remember what they renamed it, Carlton Hero's maybe?) and totally refurbish the Gardiner Stand that still remains next to the training facility. That stand would look brilliant if it was done up. I would keep the lower leval of all stands (including the stands demolished) and have seating surrunding teh ground except where the training and admin building backs onto the ground. I would keep the Legends Stand as its the most modern and clean it up. I think that would leave the ground at about 15,000, perfect for the Bullants, VFL finals excluding the GF, NAB Challenge matches and underage matches. Its great we are still at our spirital home and we need to make it relevent to today. It would still allow us to expand the HQ building or build a new building for a High Performance squad ect OR make room for all our premiership cups soon!!!

There is only one strategic plan of any consequence and the saviour stated it quite succinctly. Do not go out and get the best available, get the best.

If we get the best, success will follow and everything else falls into line.

I am not talking about players, because we have the players and salary cap rorting as well all know is a thing of the past (except for the new clubs). Administration and football department is what I am talking about. There is no salary cap. Contracts either have a completion date or can be bought out.

If we give our players the best support in the league, who will say they are not good enough to bring home a flag or three?
