He shouldn't be a life member, that's like buying your girlfriend flowers the day after you've been to the hookers.

For starters - the qualifying period is 8 years....and by my reckoning, he's played more than a hundred games for Carlton...NAB games/Challenge Cup etc. The magic '100' figure that everyone harps on about is name on locker and father/son. That he was awarded LM is very well deserved.

Agreed. Its clear they're not on the same page, and this needs to be addressed. Swann and Sticks are his bosses, they need to tell ALL employees how it is, and can GAGF if they don't like it.

As far as the cap issue goes, while it;s a minor thing, it's symptomatic of something bigger, IMO.

We pay good money for our memberships, and most years some of us never even get to see matches. So having a cap declaring our loyalty, especially in "foreign climes" is important.

The Nike caps in the store are good quality ones, and each year, the implication is that we will be getting one of a similar quality. Each year, there is disappointment at the general shabbiness and low quality of the cap. I'm surprised that our club would allow itself to be shown in such a poor light on such cheap tat. The caps from other teams I see don't sem to be the same cheap rubbish we get sent.

A better quality cap would be a show of respect to those people who stump up the cash each year.

Even better would be one which indicated who are longer term members.

Could be contradicting myself a little here as I've said I don't really mind about the trinkets...but I've always admired what Hawthorn have done. They send their members a scarf with the number of years of membership on it. That's a decent effort IMO.

As I said in the thread in the Training forums, I love my club but I still want it to do better. We're getting left behind by the innovative and inclusive clubs and we aren't going to reach 50000 members just by declaring that we will.

Little things like the hat aren't a problem in themselves but when you step back and look at the overall picture it's clear that as a club we have a long way to go.

I could go on to say how interstate/country members are treated by the club as little more than a revenue stream, but then you might pop.

Doc, 8 years is not even enough for long service leave in Victoria, I don't think he even played in one final, maybe one at most. Life Membership of Carlton, should be more than a nice bloke who turned up for long enough in my opinion. There would be spiders in the Legends Stand toilets who qualify.

Actually - in quite a few places it's 7. And it's not like they made an exception - it's been 8 years service for a long time. Players are eligible for Life Membership after eight years of senior football with Carlton or as a premiership player.

I dont have a problem with closed sessions as long as we have the odd open one and it is well advertised. Cant have people making an effort to get there and then get sent home.

Every little bit of an advantage helps though.

People will always bring it up after a loss - " Good to see the closed sessions help us Ratts ! "

I dont really care about cap quality either or who speaks to the media and how.

Just win the flag.

Did any know it all ask why we give hip operations to those who have groin problems ???!!!!! How could the two be linked ???!!!!!

That's fine. It's just that not everyone is you.
Different people have different priorities. The clubs challenge is to capture the passion for as many supporters as practicable.

I agree.

Winning games should do the trick.

Win the first 4 games by having a few tricks up our sleeve and we will gain more members than we will by having no closed sessions and better caps in my opinion.

How's this for a strange idea.

Let's win games PLUS embrace the members and give them value. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

I may have miss heard this but i think Ratts said Kruze was riding to Bathurst. So much for holding him back if true.
