Just looking at list balance rather than our best 22.

B: J. Laidler/S. White, M. Jamison/M. Austin, D. Armfield/N. Duigan
HB: P. Bower/P. McCarthy, S. O'Hailpin/M. Watson, J. Russell/J.Dare
C: K. Simpson/A.Carrazzo, B. McLean/J. Cachia, M. Murphy/H. Scotland
R: R. Warnock/S. Hampson, C. Judd/E. Curnow, B. Gibbs/M. Davies
HF: A. Walker/A. McInnes, L. Henderson/L. Casboult, C. Yarran/R. Houlihan
F: E. Betts/A. Collins, J. Waite/L. Mitchell, J. Garlett/R. Kerr
IC: M. Kreuzer, A. Joesph/Z. Tuohy, K. Lucas/R. O'Keeffe, M. Robinson/D. Ellard

Others

B.Thornton, W. Thomey, M. Carter, B. Bray, P. Labi

List is definitely getting more balanced.
Could have done with a project ruckman, however I think Casboult might fill this as he is a giant.
I acknowldege that Armfield may go onto the wing too.

That's a good way to look at the list dane.
Ditto the developing ruckman.
I don't know if Casboult will build an engine to play the ruck role for long periods if 2 senior ruckmen went down with injury like 2010.

I was more than happy with the list in 2010 and knew like everyone we needed to and were going to bolster it with the addition of KP personnel.
I am truly satisfied with the list now. Pressure is on for spots in the 22.
Really excited with the prospect of Curnow, Duigan and Laidler breaking into the team in 2011.
Expecting Watson and Mitchell to see a bit of senior footy too.
I am expecting Austin to step up in 2011 with the CHB role ripe for the picking when a few have their eyes on that role and the spot on the list. Then there's the 'new' 2011 recruit named Kreuzer to come into the team.

We should get to Flag 17 before GC and GWS really ramp up their campaign for Flag #1, and I expect the Bluebaggers to be a major challenger of those 2 lists for the next decade along with Melbourne and Colligwood.

Our best recruits in 2011 will be Alan Richardson and Gavin Brown  With them on board I expect to get to the next flag quicker than previously expected.

I really like this team. Have my doubts over Austin being a CHF though, from all reports seems to struggle outside fullback.
I can't get Carrazzo in the team either but I'd suspect he'll play. Would prefer Robinson to Scotland too.
I love how strong the team is getting.

I was thinking about next years delistings...going to be very harsh

B. Thornton (gone if a miracle doesn't occur, cant really understand why we kept him, would have preferred to keep fish to get him to 100 games, as the 1 game he would have played should be more than Thornton will play this year.)
S. o'Hailpin (if he cant hold a senior position)
M. Austin (if he doesn't stand up this year)
H. Scotland (if he is forced out of the team)
D. Ellard (if he cant hold a senior position)
R. Kerr (if he doesn't show enough this year)

None of those potential cuts are all that harsh. Scotto maybe, but at his age players can drop off pretty quickly, so I wouldn't be hugely surprised. Ellard I think would just have to show improvement to get another year, rather than needing to cement a spot. Depends on whether Ratts is re-appointed though I guess.

Laidler in our best 22? Dunno. But I'm definitely hoping Duigan can be our new Andy McKay. Not sure on Austin yet either - he'd need to show a bit more to justify being in our current best 22. That team has some nice balance (on paper) although no-one on the bench has got 'substitute' written all over them. Still not sure quite what we're looking for in that position... if it's versatility, none of those four guys really has it. I suspect a lot of the time, it'll be a fringe player that's picked for that position, as coaches won't want to waste a talent. Possibly beneficial to the 'just missed selection' brigade.

In that case, you could maybe make a case for an Andy Collins as sub. Trying to fit Houlihan in there, but if Walker is going to play more in the middle and up forward, and Waite's up forward, plus the 3 Amigos, then I can't fit him in. In a strong team, he's still an asset I reckon.

1. Yeah you are right. I suppose over the past few years, the club has had belief in most of them and supported them with game time and alike, but they never quite got to the heights (except Scotland) that were hoped.

2. Houlihan will play if fit a fair bit of the year, I'd say Yaz will miss a few, and AW will be in and out and under pressure (i want him to take that next step though). Everyone has always said that Houlihan would be an asset in a strong team with his polish. Does he go on to the veterans list for the 2012 year?

Interesting team. I have had a go myself and the good thing is that the team is tough to pick. I am going to throw some curve balls out there and see what people think.

Possible de-listings (or Trades) at end of 2011

Thornton (Pretty obvious)
O’hAlpin (Really needs something special, but I think they would rather play Watson or even a Casboult instead)
Scotland (I think he will retire at the end of 2011, love him as a player, how good is his disposal!!!)
Houlihan (Not getting any younger)
And I think the big one…. Betts. That’s right Betts.

While I think he adds value I believe that Gartlett will pass him and I am not sure we can run all 3 thru the forward line, especially with the new sub rule meaning that Kruse and Warnock will have to play down forward more often.

I have loved that we have turned over the list pretty well, and I do feel that the depth is looking really good. We got some (potentially) good talls but they will need game time to improve. To that end if someone like Watson or McCarthy fires up in year one along with Laider playing well I think a TC fave Paul Bower might be in trouble. I guess the idea of our drafting is to free him up but I am uncertain about his ability to deliver by foot.

As much as I hate to say this I kind of think it would be good if someone signs with GWS so we can bank another draft pick in a few years. Be interesting to see what we get for someone like Tex if he walks (Get it?!?!).

Here is my team at this stage

B: ARMFIELD, JAMISON, RUSSELL
HB: SCOTLAND, WATSON, JOSEPH
C: GIBBS, SIMPSON, CARRAZZO
HF: YARRAN, HENDERSON, GARTLETT
F: KREUZER, WAITE, WALKER
R: WARNOCK, MURPHY, JUDD
I: LUCAS, McLEAN, ELLARD
S: ROBINSON

Probable side rd 1 v Tigers

AJ ......... Jamison ........ Armfield
Scotland .. Bower ......... Russel
Simpson .. Mclean ........ Gibbs
Yarran ... Henderson..... Houlihan
Betts ....... Waite .........Garlett
Warnock ... Judd .......... Murphy

I/C Kreuzer, Walker, Carazzo
Sub. Lucas

The side I would like to see

Bower ..... Jamison ..... Armfield (Playing a tagging role)
Russel...... Austin ....... Laidler/Duigan
Simpson ... Mclean ...... Gibbs
Yarran ... Henderson ... Robinson (Defensive forward)
Kreuzer..... Waite ....... Betts
Warnock .... Judd ........ Murphy

I/C Walker, Garlett, Houlihan
Sub. Lucas

I think expecting kids such as Watson/McCarthy to be able to come in and play CHB from the start of the year is just CRAZY. Think either should get SOME games next year, but as a 3rd tall if one of Jamison/Bower/Austin go down/slip out of form.

It's also great to see some real depth in the side !!!!!!! Most positions have a real, viable option so if someone is injured/out of form we can have someone either directly step into the position or have coverage in the side and another player outside the best 22 ready to come into the team !!!!!!!!
