I haven't seen them play football - are they any good?

Any there any players in those teams who can take a good high mark?

I may have missed it amongst the ranting, but given the fact we have to have an alternate guernsey, whats your solution?

Tell the AFL where to go?

That worked well for us last time.

The white one was horrid IMO, I really do prefer this one. Although, like yourself, many think the opposite to me. It seems this clash strip drama will not please all.

P.S - Collingwoods clash strip is b*llsh!t, if we have to dramatically alter ours, so should they. RULES ARE RULES! (Except for in the AFL where they choose to change, manipulate, ignore and enforce rules only when it suits)

The duck-egg blue is growing on me.

My biggest problem with the whole "clash jumper" thing is that some clubs (ie Collingwood and Essendon*) are being allowed to take the piss and play in a jumper barely different to their normal one. If we're forced to wear something starkly different to our traditional jumper then every club should be.

+1 . That is my biggest complaint. The clash jumper rule applies to all so the scum & the filth should be made to comply.

Ironically, the club will be wearing the jumper just days before the Australian release of The Smurfs movie! Sony Pictures Australia is responsible for theatrical distribution of the film in Australia and I reckon we should contact them re: their marketing plans and piggy back off of the movies release for some extra coin.

I agree Essendons attemp is a joke, but like I said yesterday I'd prefer we accept we have to have an altrnate strip and do it properly. If we were to follow Essendon* we'd increase the size of the monogram.

As for Collingwood, they're fortunate they can switch from black on white to whie on black and get a different result.

Again it comes back to how they market it. They've quietly gone from saying we don't change our guernsey to saying we were black and white stripes. what changes is which is the block colour and which are the stripes.

Eddie mentioned on Triple M this morning they'll add even more black when playing North as the away team. Good on them for that.

I like that. Nice lateral thinking. We could even offer up our Smurph for promotional pics.

Agree.

The away jumper is not about having a jumper that is vastly different from your normal jumper. It is about having a jumper that can easily be differentiated from the teams that the traditional jumper doesn't easily differentiate from. When we play Collingwood and both clubs wear their traditional jumpers, it can be hard sometimes to tell players apart. When we play them and they wear their away jumper, it is very easy to tell the clubs apart.

IMHO, not only does Collingwood have a definite away jumper, I actually think it is the best away jumper of all the clubs (because it most closely resembles their traditional jumper).

Wait until we have to wear our "away" top against them.....

So they say....

I know I wouldn't be wasting my money on anything but our traditional guernsey...Personaly I don't like it because it is not Navy in any way shape or form and wreaks of weakness.

Having checked out Uncle John's great training pics, it got to reminding me of the history of orange in our jumper.

I know it's a bit radical, and bright (and flashy!), but I reckon an orange top with blue trimming, side panels, CFC and number would look alright :yikes: Blue shorts.

Plays on our heritage, and certainly stands out. And I reckon the blue and orange work well together.

Having said that, given that we are required to have a clash jumper, I'd still stick with the white one, but with navy shorts.

It could be called the Carlton/nike song.

Not sure why the animosity towards Nike. They are after all a sponsor of the club. And a little bit of historical research would tell you that the Carlton theme song didn't come into club culture for quite some time and certainly wasn't sung post-match until well after World War II.

Whilst not everyone's cup of tea - it's for 4 games. 4. I think it'll probably bring a smile to my face seeing the kids running round in it...it certainly stands out - and that's kinda the point. Truth be told, I get more pissed off seeing supporters wear the Navy Blue jumper with the Mayne logo on it. How !@#$%& depressing!

Interesting that you defend Nike here Dr, I am sure you are aware of their involvement in the development of this jumper, or should I say getting rid of the white one?
Perhaps not???

Swann looks like an idiot because he is trying to defend something that he is responsible for, he made the decision pretty much on his own.

Agree. People who buys that odd guernsey supports Carlton wearing jumpers other than navy blue...which is like asking an Australian cricketer to not wear the baggy green, but a fluorescent yellow.

If you want to spend money on clothing items - i suggest buying a Carlton polo shirt (in navy blue) instead. Just my opinion, and I noticed there are various opinions on the previous pages, but each to their own. I am sure there are those that get a thrill out of buying pale blue.

I like your thinking Siegfried. I've only been saying that for 4 or 5 years. One of my posts about that was quoted in The Age saying as much.

The Navy Blue and orange do work well together, works for the SES - which would also provide a good community-based PR opportunity too - and the Denver Broncos.

Compared to the White jumper the pale blue one is AWFUL.

I think this is the club reacting to its supporters. The supporters were very angry for years about the White jumper. The thing that was missed is that they were actually angry about the CLASH jumper. It could have been red, green, pink whatever but its the fact that the supporters actaully didnt want to wear a clash jumper at all.

If we have to (and we know we have to guys) it should be the white one.

Pale blue is a different, white is one of our 2 colours.

The marketer in me thinks its a good idea, but sometimes an opportunity for cash needs to be weighed up against the want of the supporters. Renaming the home ground caused massive backlash yet most people now call it Visy, even though its had a few names in between. we moved on from that one, but the jumper is another thing altogether i think.

IMHO stick with White. Not Simon (well stick with him too, you know what i mean!!!)
