Not particularly happy about the Steven Browne delisting, but all boys can play and I certainly hope they get a run at another AFL club...particularly Caleb Tiller who was always going to need more than 2 years in an AFL environment. Hoping West Coast pick up Browney. Our family would certainly take a vested interest in his career should he end up back in Perth. Top kid, well liked, did everything asked of him and certainly a very good footballer. Too many in front of him, so here's hoping he gets another run elsewhere.

i agree these days with limited places on lists young players dont get enough time to make it.if thornton plays twos all year whats the point of keeping him?pay out his contract and keep developing browne.

One of Carlton's best ever finals players - Brent Crosswell - was stuck on 98 games............before he upped and left mid-season to go to North.
(Another reason why I am not a big fan of Norf).

Sometimes you don't get to these milestones, but Fisher still had a legacy at the club greater than many others. Considering his skill base it was a great achievement to get into the 90's.

Very much a Raso situation.

The comparison between Anthony Raso and Caleb Tiller has always annoyed the hell out of me. Raso was a real spec pick. He never played TAC footy, only school footy and was never able to add to his light frame in his two years at the club given his continual injuries.

Caleb was hardly plucked from obscurity. Six clubs had spoken to him in the lead up to the draft. In hindsight it probably would have been better for him to spend another year at the Murray Bushrangers, but ain't hindsight a wonderful thing?! As it turned out, Caleb had an extremely good finals series for the Bushies and his role as a utility across half-forward was a real feature of that finals series. Just ask Steele Sidebottom who was continually fed great delivery into the forward line by the likes of Caleb, Sam Wright and Jack Ziebell.

Caleb did put on weight and worked diligently on his upper body strength during the last pre-season. Not the most outgoing of kids, but really enjoyed his time at Carlton. Pretty hard to 'fire a shot' when you're exclusively played out of defense and you've played all your junior footy as a forward/wingman. Deserved to get promoted to the 'Ants firsts on more than one occasion, he was frustrated with his lack of opportunities in the VFL.

That's hardly good development...but David Teague has never been and will never be a development coach despite any title he might be given. A wrist injury cost him valuable time during the middle part of the year, and it's disappointing that this kid wasn't developed better considering year one was difficult after the family home burnt to the ground on Black Saturday while the family was in Melbourne celebrating Caleb's 18th. Has all the tools to make it at the highest level...you have to wonder what Alan Richardson could do with Caleb that the likes of Teague and Harris weren't able to do.

God help us....

Sorry i'm not 'in the loop' like some of you here but surely you could have dignified my question with a serious response. I just note that Essendon* for example have Bomberblitz as their forum which goes unrivalled but for some reason Carlton forums include TalkingCarlton (which I personally think is the best), CarltonSC and TheBlueView and maybe others I am unaware of.

Wouldn't it make sense to have one superpower forum - strength in numbers?
Or are there some deepseated politics/power struggles/grudges/??? that I am simply unaware of?
Again, pardon the ignorance.

You ask a question which you yourself say is a dumb question, and then you get pissed off because YOU perceive it's not dignified with a serious response!!!!!!!

Well, I was just playing which is MY way of enjoying this site, but given you lay in wait for me, let me give you a serious response.

If we combined the sites we'd have twice as many TROLLS in the one place!!! And the amount of TROLLness when you combine is greater than the sum of the parts. So, although I'd prefer to have no TROLLS at all, I'm happy for the TROLLs to just be un-unified.

(OK, so it wasn't a serious response. So, shoot me)........ :donk: :donk: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Good to see Austin survived the cut. Hope he now steps up to play regular senior footy. We need the likes of him.

That is clutching at straws a bit JK? He is talking about one player. You have a very negative mindset these days.

You are either good at development or you are not good at development. If a player fails to make it and you are perceived to be good at development then perhaps the player in question just is not up to it.

Dookie, As you probably know this site evolved out of the disintergration of The Blue View a few years ago. I won't into why that site fell apart but it was not pretty. The Blue View was the first real Carlton supporters site on the interweb and was in its day very infleuential amongst the Carlton faithful. CSC was set up as a rival to TBV originally by a person who was running a agenda and whom I have little personal respect for. Now I haven't been over to CSC for years and have never been a member there but I am aware it has been revamped and that is a good thing.

Personally I do believe to much trolling goes on, on this site but it does not take one long to work out who the 'value' posters are and have insight either into the game and/or the club. Its those posters who make it worth visiting and being a member here. The trolls I ignore.

If the sites merged I would cease being a Carlton supporter online and TC is in a sense my online home and I have known many of the posters online for many, many years and hope it continues as such for many more years.

Joey Anderson.. seemed like a ripper bloke but just wasn't developed well enough. Him and Browne are the types of guys we needed to turn into solid citizens to balance out our list. Its a shame... Interesting how both us and the Hawks really took the hammer to our respective lists- 18 players sacked between the two clubs is a big statement for clubs knocked out in wk 1 of finals.

This issue with Fish is not that we have delisted him, it is more that he was deemed worthy of a single game, where he was full forward in a side that was creamed. Hard to understand that he was worthy of one game but didn't get two. If you are worthy of a game you need two to find your feet especially if you play in a game where the side is creamed. There is actually some sentiment in footy, it is what holds clubs together. I don't think he should have been given another year, but I do think he should have been given another game, regardless of how many he was sitting on but also because of how many he was sitting on. Last season it should have been no games or two.

The other delistings again confirm our lack of success with picks in the ND beyond the first round. Hopefully, some time we will have a draft that will produce 3 or 4 good players and not a first rounder and possibly one other.

Also why are posters wanting Dowler and Muston. Players who aren't good enough to get a game in a side that has done no better than us the last two years aren't going to take us forward. We need guys who are senior players.

Thank-you Gerry A.

Saves me typing out pretty well exactly the same thoughts re Fisher
and picking up discards.

Not saying that at all...although if I run into Darren in the off-season, I'll pick his brain re: whether he thought the likes of Caleb became the 'forgotten man' and at the selection table it is all too easy to say 'Caleb's progressing ok across half-back in the VFL magoos, still learning the defensive side of his game' ...meanwhile the kid is training with Carlton and then during game day taking direction from Reserves VFL coaches who are very much learning on-the-job. Meanwhile, there's a guy who had two titles 'Bullants Senior Coach/Carlton Development Assistant' who doesn't have much to do with Caleb when he is the one person who should be having the most contact with him. Teague has coaching potential, but the two roles was too much for him.

Re: Development...we've simply got to get better at it. These guys picked after the 3rd round have an uphill battle to make it and when recruiting them, it's my opinion that their character needs to speak volumes during interview stage. Despite all their talents, they really have to want it. Perhaps Caleb didn't demonstrate that desire enough. But personally, I would give them an old Sherrin and tell them to live with it. Take it with you in the car, take it to Uni, take it to bed, have breakfast with it. Essendon* did this with James Hird when he first arrived in Melbourne. But he embraced it, and year round during his first 2 seasons - was not seen without his Sherrin by his side.

Can you imagine the number of greats of the game who would have been lost if the system spat them out every 2 years? Quite a few spring to mind. Why aren't these guys told when they hit a bit of form - 'Mate - the next month you're automatic selection in the Bullant ones...we're going to play you where we deem appropriate, but we want to see how you cope given different scenarios we present to you...make the most of your opportunity'

It's exactly what Caleb needed...but he was left to rot a bit, and whilst I'm not saying his skills were perfect, the time and level of development that went into him was negligible and I think with the appointment of Richardson it's been addressed, but that's not much good to Caleb Tiller now is it?

Agree with all of that Doc, and I'd just add that there needs to be some work done in the list management area to ensure the coach and the Recruiting manager are on the same page. Without having a crack at Ratts or WH, it's an impossible situation when guys like Tiller and O'Keeffe are being cut after their first contract when they are being recruited for long term development. It comes down to pressure on list spaces created in part by our success with rookies, some bad contracts, but also because the Coach is doing too much recruiting in the offseason through trades and the preseason to get players that fit his game plan.

It's a no win situation if the coach is constantly bringing guys accross from other clubs on extended contracts to perform kicking roles while we keep drafting guys like Marcus Davies. You end up a list full of guys drafted who don't fit the game plan and players brought in through trades who aren't good enough and are stuck on big contracts.

You forgot the elephant in the room called Preston.

The alignment means there's a limited amount of spots in the starting 22 or 24 or whatever it is and of course the flowering 12-10 rule...

...been saying it for years - bring back the Carlton reserves!!
