So in other words, don't air your grievances on a fan forum specifically formulated for doing just that? Interesting advice because the last time we let the club pick their coaching panel and we stood silent, we got rid of virtually all of them??
Good to see you have unabashed faith in the decision makers at our footy club. I love our footy club, but question whether we have the best people making the most important decisions and have done so consistently ever since Ratten was first appointed.

As for my implication that Ratten was threatened by Laidley.. I'm happy to discuss this with you in greater detail in private.

Ever wonder why your opinions are "unpopular", because you talk rubbish, as if its fact.

Aren't most opinions just that?....

Problem is that there are people who constantly feed off the people who constantly deliver the 'bad news rumour'. In effect, that's exactly what this site has become. This site isn't one whom people 'even a little bit in the know' come for information. Those days are long gone. The truth is that if you think you are coming here for info - the reality is for the most part you're really coming on here for a story. Whether you perceive that story to be true or not is up to you, but my experience suggests a lot of you are gullible fools.

The irony is we have a popular thread on here entitled the 'The Herald-Sun's "Carlton Story Translator" and simultaneously throughout this thread and others, forum members give exactly the same treatment to the club!

The fact of the matter is that football clubs to a large extent, are fairly boring places. If we were to analyze some of the board meetings, sub-committee meetings, coaches meetings, club policies and guidelines on an internet forum, it would bore the socks off most people. Unfortunately, there's a group who seemingly have a desire to play out their own Caroline Wilson and Craig Hutchison fantasies online.

It becomes a rather sad state of affairs. What's sadder is that we have constant criticism of those in charge of our club but those who criticize don't act upon it the only way they can. Just 9,000 people are voting members of the Carlton Football Club. It was pretty evident on this site during the last election that only a handful of those 9,000 reside on here.

This makes for an interesting point. You seem to have alot of interesting inside info Josh. Does this mean you are getting it from higher up the food chain or just someone who has access to someone up the food chain. Which ever way it means that someone is gobbing off to anyone who will listen. Does that mean the person gobbing off and giving up insider info is the best person to be making decisions for the Club or simply big noting themselves. Does he or she have the best interests of the club at heart by spreading gossip. I doubt it. Your informant is doing the club no favours by leaking any info.

If you info does come from on high then the one spilling the beans needs to have a good look at themselves and shut their #$@% gob. If the one giving you the info is just a friend of a friend then the chinese whispers is all it is. All your gossip and innuendo does is create destabilisation within a Club.

In general terms, I would have thought that following the Elliott downfall that member scrutiny would be seen as a good thing and the days of turning a blind were in fact counter-productive and well and truly behind us.

And anyone who seriously suggests grassroots member voting rights/democracy is anything other than a joke is talking crap.

I find this the most important point of all Budz.. hits right to the heart of the problems with a latent supporter base who merely clap their collective hands at everything the club does and stays silent when things go wrong. I have hardly said anything earth shattering in this thread, but all of a sudden I have been painted as the second coming of Synbad.

Another point of concern was this post from Cazz

Surely there is something wrong with this mentality? Are we only allowed to post positive inside info? Is everything remotely negative not allowed to be discussed by the many paid up members who post on this forum? I believe that is a toxic attitude to have.

Mods maybe consider locking this thread (once Cazz has had his right of reply).
Not doing much good remaining open.

So does that mean you think it is alright that a person in position of power/knowledge, who is entrusted to keep confidential information, should spread it around as they see fit.

My point here is that you have posted info that you believe is true and further posts gives the inference the info has come from within the inner sanctum. That is not just a negative connotation about the Club, it is the dissemination of private information. How can that be good for the Club. How can the person who leaked that info be good for the Club. Your informant is nothing but a whiteant for the Club.

The toxic attitude you refer to comes from the sneaky leaker. The sneaky leaker needs to shut up, do his job and understand that gossip will only affect the Club adversely. The sneaky leaker is either all in in or all out, not in when it suits his agenda. The paid up members would also have every right to ask for the immediate resignation of the person leaking the info.

If you believe any differently then you are sadly out of step with what will make or break a Club Josh.

I believe Swann is now beginning to assemble something similar to what he established at the Pies. I get the impression that Richardson is the linchpin to completing this process because of his broad experience in both coaching and the player development. He is far and away the most important assistant coach appointment we have made in many a year.

I am suprised it has taken this long but perhaps he has been hamstrung by our finances until recently.

Final note - He will have worked with both Laidley and Richardson at Collingwood. No doubt he shared his views with Ratten and team.

According to today's Sunday Mail in Adelaide, Laidley is still in talks for a tactical type role at the club. Not sure if that is correct or not though.

If Laidley is reconciled to having done his dash as a senior coach it would be amazing to have him in the coaches box

There is a potential issue here projecting forward. With 6 or 7 coaches coming out of contract at the end of next season, it is not unreasonable to think that Richardson will get a gig somewhere as a senior coach. It could of course be at Carlton, but it could also be elsewhere. I guess that's the challenge that all clubs face in trying to put together a stable coaching department to take a club forward.

I reckon for us this is a good thing....having a bit of pressure put on him may be just what Ratts needs to start thinking outside the box....and the knowledge that playing it safe will not cut it next season may see the coaches box develop into a more effective weapon for us....

Having been a board member of a local sporting organisation for many years, most decisions made by our board were never made with 100% agreement. It is very healthy for any sporting organisitation to have robust discussions about all important matters put in front of them. But the most important thing about any decision made by a board is that once a decision was made whether you agreed with or not, publicly it was your responsibilty to convey a positive message about any decision.
If you can't do that as a board member then you should resign.
