Interesting if true Josh.

Not sure about the Barker appointment, but only because he was at St K before it stepped up to be a Permiership contender, and at Hawthorn after it won the Premiership, and has struggled since. If he was the forwards coach in each of those 4 years, not sure that the performance of the forward lines in each of those years makes for much inspiration. But who knows.

On the other hand, I am very happy that we have looked outside the Club, and for coaches with experience at clubs with successful people. Richardson, Brown and Barker cover Collingwood, St Kilda and Hawthorn at times when they have been there or there abouts. A far cry from Lappin, Montgomery and Harvey, who had no experience at all as coaches before joining.

Wouldn't have minded some Geelong input, but can't have it all. Or can we?

FWIW, I would have loved Laidley.

Lockyer has just signed as the Pies VFL coach.

Jesus I'm a good judge.

Why would you want to be writing your own epitaph?

The appointment of Richardosn would look ominous for Ratts.

My bet is, like Hirdy, surround the novice with plenty of IP and they may just be a great success.

Haha good stuff.

I wonder if the Cats will take on Laidley or if the Pies take him back.

I dont think he is that much chop and his stocks keep dropping year after year.

Ratts probably thought he couldnt work with him. Wouldnt be the first id say.

I reckon Laidley did wonders at Port but the kids ran out of juice once they came out of the blocks....with plenty of wins and everything against them.

Just my thoughts...it looked that way.

I'm with yu Seigfried...I think you're onto something...wouldn't mind a dash of Cats in that mix ahead of 2011.
Sanderson? Get him....if Pratt was still alive , I'm sure if he thought like you (we) do, he's throw the kitchen sink to get his man.

I'm still hopeful...we haven't got a Carlton Reserves Coach....how much longer do we have to call our reserves the Bullants?
Not long I hope.
Bring back the Carlton Jumper for all players on the CFC list.

It's looking that way. I'm dead against the Eagles having a reserves side in the WAFL because it will harm the comp IMO. I suppose the same concerns exist in the VFL, but it's now almost to the point where we may not be able to ignore it any longer.

There was nothing better at one time than to go to the MCG in the '70s; and see the U19's....Reserves; and Seniors all play in their respective Grand Finals.....all in the Carlton Guernsey...........on the same day.....BLISS!

Montgomery had experience when he came to Carlton.

We spoke about how vital it was to get our line coaches right, and I reckon we've done OK. Richardson was a huge get, Brown was the 6th or 7th banana at the Pies but has some essential IP.. Barker is a bit meh.. I still think we're light on for real tactical expertise. We have some holes in our list (if anything this has been exacerbated with the loss of 2 strong bodied mids) and i really think its vital we get someone in to devise a scheme to adequately address our deficiencies, not merely play to our strengths. That's where I thought Laidley would have been very nice. We've witnessed first hand his work with a crap list at North-- I reckon if you give him more untapped talent to work with he could have done wonders.

So the powers that be said to Ratts either you chose the strategic genius in Laidley or the line coaching of Barker?

Sounds like a stretch to me given that Richardson was already signed on.

Ratts isn't threatened by Richardson or Brown but he is by Laidley who several clubs have overlooked for coaching positions.

Laidley oversaw a decline on his list and is a second rate performer in front of the media.

Very happy he's got nothing to do with our club. Show me one positive thing he did with North whilst it was declining and not trading for positive improvement. Crap List? It was declining under his management.

PS As for Barker, dont judge his performance without considering Roughead's increased weight gain and fitness problems / injury to Cyril Rioli. Add Franklin's jury problems and I dont think its fair to assess him on Hawthorn output alone.

Do you honestly think Ratts appointed Richardson? I'll give you Brown.. but Brown is harmless. Hardly spoken about as a senior coach in waiting like Richo.

So he had 2 says in the 3 ass coaches?

Richo has been a proverbial bridesmaid to head coach for about 4 years now.

I'm rapt that we have him, and he will no doubt put pressure on Ratts next season so looking forward to seeing how Ratts responds.

I have read posts where you have concerns with how the club is going off-field especially with Sticks at the helm.

Is there anyone who is highly credentialed that wants to be President but can't get a look in because of factions on the Board or is it simply, that anyone qualified enough isn't interested in becoming President?

Wonder how Laidely would be spoken about on this site if he coached us for 7 years and took us to 10th, 10th, 7th, 14th, 3rd, 8th and 13th?

Just puttin' it out there....

Yep and plenty here blamed Lappin for our forward woes and he just got signed by the 2010 Premiers. Supporters talk shite at every club, none more than here. Give the guy a chance and lets see what he has to add before he gets written off.

The Hawks didn't want to let him go and Clarkson wanted him re-signed.

Didn't mind him as a player and I reckon he will do wonders for someone like Henderson.

Good luck to him.

What's your point. Isn't Ratts permitted an opinion? Maybe he thought a younger guy like Barker might have more get up and go than Laidley. Maybe he thought Laidley might just be getting a pay cheque and going through the motions. Unless you have any facts about the decision making process then you are just throwing mud and hoping something sticks.

Mmm, yeah, nah....not sure the answer to that is as obvious as you seem to think it is Josh.
