Any news about Laidley joining us? Didn't Carlton interview him and he was waiting to hear back from us.

I reckon Gavin Brown will enjoy the huge challenge to beat the Roman Box style of defense Collingwood has used so effectively this year.
That'll put him on the map for a senior coach role moreso than hanging around Buckley till 2015.

I'm so glad we got him especially because he comes from the reigning premier who also have a very young team like us.

Add Alan Richardson to the mix who was the development coach for many of the kids at the Magpies at their footy academy, and I believe we've got the right 2 coaches on board to give us the edge and improvement we need to make a top 4 spot a reality; perhaps challenge Collingwood.

That's where we've definetely won in the trade period.

I wonder what will happen to Dean Laidley.
I'm not sure we need him now we have Richardson as the tactical coach.

Is Richardson a leading tactician or a leading developer of players? Would be unusual if one man were exceptional in both areas, and more unusual if that man couldn't get a senior gig.

Check out what he says about his new role at Carlton as the Senior Assistant Coach on CCTV.
He does mention being the link between the different line coaches and as an overall tactician and opposition coach who reports to Ratts.

He comes with a huge reputation. Yep Senior Coach material. If not for Hirdy, he wouldn't be with us right now.
He has a very good CV. Check it out.

I wonder if we're looking at someone like Andrew McLeod who can advise on how to run the ball attackingly out of defence.
I'm sure guys like Yarran Army and JR would learn a lot.

My two favourite teams in the world in exactly the same boat.. Scary the similarities. Miami Hurricanes- most successful college football franchise in the States.. Has had a shocking run from 2002-2007. 2008 things started looking up.. Randy Shannon appointed head coach in 2006. Former Hurricanes star-- came to bring the "swagger" back to Miami. Thanks to his connections in recruitment, Miami have constantly had the most talented classes of recruits from High School into the college program. In 2009 with such a talented list, the world expected the Canes to finish at least top 10 in the country. Every single big game they played they got out schemed and out coached. This year-- again expected to go top 10 on the nation and even vie for a national championship. Played our biggest rivals in Florida State on the weekend (think Carlton- Collignwood) - we went in favourites and got absolutely pummelled 41-17. Cue articles like this to start appearing...

Perhaps the guy has a point..

A lot of talk that Laidley and Choco will sit out for a year.

Rather than comitting themselves now they may think that holding off for 12 months will give them more of an opportunity to grab a senior coaching gig (as many coaches are out of contract at end of 2011) rather than locking themselves into an assistants role now.

That's true, but isn't it a given that most assistant coaches have "*contract can be broken in event of a senior coaching position becoming available" clause in their contracts?

Not sure if Choco will sit out. Got flown up to Brisbane for an interview in regards to an assistant role under Voss.

Premiership coach gets to interview for a position underneath a rookie coach whose main claim to fame is almost single-handedly destroying the club from within.

Weird world we live in.

I think Nafan has a good relationship with him. Cats or Pieland.

dont want laidley...

He might be a great tactition but dont think he is what we need.

His interpersonal skills and communication skills (or lack there of) and apparent eccentric behaviour can be distabilising to a young group.

Speak to ex players at the roos and there is a general theme..

Was going to comment on this last night, but wasn't sure if you were implying this.

I remember seeing a photo of him from one of the Grand Final celebrations for North where he was in a dress. Do you think maybe someone has stretched that out to a cross-dressing rumour?

I couldn't give a stuff if he rocked up to training in a leotard and buttered up with a tu tu in the coaching box every weekend.

He's the best tactician available and that's one area (from my massively removed vantage point) the current coaching panel lacks.

Laidly pulling the strings from the box and Ratts coaching one on one from the boundary line is my ideal coaching scenario for 2011.
