I expect Wiggins (retired) Fisher (gone) Johnson (apparently gone) Tiller (not progressing) and Browne would be cut.
I would think Anderson also unless the rumours of a new contract are true (strange if he has been given another 2 years in my view) otherwise there may need to be consideration to another delisting - maybe Hadley given the issues with getting him on the park and his pace issues but I like his hardness and I think Judd does too. O'Keeffe and Austin might be in trouble if the club thinks they can't get over injury issues but not otherwise IMO. So my view is delist as above plus Anderson (unless contracted) failing that Hadley (reluctantly) except that if either Austin or O'Keeffe is rated as physically rooted then that would save Hadley.

Assuming one of those 4 go off we would be able to promote Garlett (certainty) Ellard (or else we have to let him go and he has shown he's a good footsoldier) and I would suggest White. That would give us 3 live picks in the ND/PSD being 18, 33, 41 all of which have some decent prospects around. We then re-rookie Casboult Cacchia Dare and Tuohy (as an international he is not counted as one of the 3 maximum that can be retained) all of whom have shown a bit during the year and have 4 rookie spots to fill, which we might consider Tiller, Donaldson & Labi for if considered do be showing enough, which the club would know far better than us outsiders.

Now, if something juicy comes up in the PSD we would need to make some more room but we'd either need to be confident they'd get to us or be unconcerned about losing the additional person we cut - ie not really rate them even as a back-up - maybe Anderson would fit this description though if he doesn't have a contract I expect he'd be already gone and if he does have a contract would we be prepared to pay it out?

That would leave team line-ups (given Rattens comments that Collins and Laidler will play 44 games next year) as something like:

Armfield Jamison Bower
Laidler O'hAilpin Russell
Simpson Judd Walker (switching with Waite at FF)
Garlett Henderson Yarran
Kreuzer Waite Betts
Warnock Gibbs Murphy (starting on wing at centre bounces with
Carrazzo Collins Lucas Scotland Walker/Waite going into middle
to supply bigger body)

and excluding Bullants-listed players

Tuohy O'keeffe? Davies
Anderson? Austin? Dare
Houlihan McLean Joseph
Kerr Thornton Robinson
Casboult White Cacchia
Hampson Hadley? Ellard
Donaldson?? Tiller?? NEWBIES

Doc is there any chance you can give us a run down on what his injury problems were? I remember hearing something about his back and hamstrings. Also, what makes you think he's over them?

cheers.

He had a lumbar stress fracture of his back. It's more common in cricket amongst fast bowlers...Dennis Lillee had a shocking case of it in the early 70's before coming back better than ever. Curtly Ambrose the same. Shane Bond not so fortunate, but his was diagnosed late and he had other associated 'displaced' disc problems. Rhys' lumbar stress fracture was discovered early.

So no surgery, plenty of core stability exercises, strengthening of the abs, perhaps change his gait biomechanics, lots of swimming...he was close to full fitness at the end of the VFL season. Of course risking him would have been stupid, but from what I understand - he Kane Lucas and Matthew Kreuzer are hard to keep out of the place and are in great shape. Pre-season training starts for these boys in early November.

Rhys O'Keeffe (yes, that's the correct spelling) is raring to go for pre-season. You don't cut a player of his talent. Has overcome his back problems, is fit and fingers crossed will play across half-back for Carlton in 2011.

He has so much talent. Remember seeing him go off injured [against Casey IIRC] and was so disapointed, if he can get fit, he'll be fantastic.

Am mates with one of our Rookies sisters [who isn't a footy nut, so she may get some guys confused] but been told Donaldson won't be kept, Casboult will and Tiller and Johnson are both gone.

I might be as stubborn as Thornton here, but I hope we don't delist Hadley.

Unlike the other names being bandied about, he's usually present when we play our best football. Seeing as we've seen very little of Brock's capabilities in a Carlton jumper and the loss of Grigg - Hadley is pretty vital insurance at the very least I would have thought.

Didn't someone post somewhere that one of Joey's relatives said he'd been offered a 2 year contract extension? Sorry can't remember where I read it.

Agree with all of these apart from Scotland.

I look at Johnson and wonder what on earth the club were thinking.

Johnson
Fisher
Thornton

Maybe:

Tiller
Ando
Setanta

Probably won't be:

Austin
Ando

The way I see it:

Changes to the Primary List thus far-

- Wiggins retired ( -1 )
- Grigg & Sauce traded out ( -2 )
- Collins & Laidler traded in ( +2 )

Then:
- Garlett and Ellard elavated to primary list (White to stay on as nominated rookie) ( +2 )
- IMO we will only take 3 live picks in the ND (no PSD involvement) ( +3 )

That leaves us with +4 players so I'd assume 4 delistings will take place.

My tip is Tiller, Johnson, Fisher and either Thornton (if he refuses to play for us) or Browne.

Yeah, that was me in the Joe Anderson Talking Players Thread.

I played footy against Jimmy Anderson - Joes grandfather - many years ago. (Makes me feel a little ancient!)

I ran into him in a mall in Darwin and he told me that Joe has just signed a two year deal.

That was a couple of days before trade week so the speculation that it was somewhat a cover for Grigg was not correct.

You'll find that Donaldson has to be kept. He was from WA and all interstate rookies get two years

Yes he is. His kicking skills are such that he could pinch hit forward as well. His pre-season is huge. As far as I'm concerned, next to Kreuzer it's the biggest at the club. RO'K has a good one and backs it up in the practise matches, it gives us really good flexibility with where other guys play. Lucas, Laidler, Russell, Gibbs etc.

Doc, if you were to compare or liken RoK's playing style, technique, demeanour and skill to a current AFL player/s would they be.

Just curious as ive seen SFA like many of us.

Cheers
