.....and i love your dream mid field.

you are right, if a number of our HBF options step up next year, then we have 3 additional midfielders - BG, JR and AW!!!

Well...

This is interesting. My preliminary team (for rnd 1) would be:

Armfield - Jamison - Laidler
Lucas - Bower - Russell
Murphy - McLean - Simpson
Yarran - Henderson - Walker
Betts - Waite - Garlett

Warnock - Gibbs - Judd

Houlihan - Hampson - Scotland
Sub: Carrazzo

The only question I have is whether Kreuzer will be ready to go in rnd 1?

That leaves the Bullants looking like this (at this stage):

Browne - Austin - Davies
Anderson - O'Hailpin - Dare
Touhy - Hadley - Robinson
Collins - Thornton - Johnson
Kerr - White - Donaldson

Casboult - Ellard - Cachia

O'Keeffe - Tiller - first pick

Sub: second pick

BACKS: Armfield Jamison White
Bower Waite Russel
Gibbs
MIDS: Yarran Judd Simpson

FWDS: Walker Henderson Collins
Garlett
Kreuzer

FOLL: Warnock, Murphy, Mclean

INT: Carazzo, Ellard, Scotland
Sub: Lucas

I'll only comment on my odd picks.

BACKS: Controversial perhaps, but I'd like to see Waite down back. He's a genuine tall with superb hands and the power to intimidate. We need his authority along our weakest line in my eyes.
White is my pet-pick. I really see him as a natural backman, with great composure and closing speed. Can also rebound.

MIDS: Mclean (assuming fitness and that his utter shitness in 2010 was just an aberration) to be the inside grunt around the packs.
INT: all mids effectively. Carazzo to continue his elite stopping abilities. Ellard to Rotate with Mclean as that other hard nut in close.

FWDS: at 200cm, with a great frame and beautiful action Kreuzer could, and imo, should be transformed into a competition leading FF. Obviously also rotates ruck.
Collins off the flank and through the mids, offering a medium marking target.
Walker as our defensive fwd. Whoever he's on must respect him, because he's a legitimate target if he gets free. Pace, marking and a good boot.

Lucas as the sub, to cover either injuries or the most tiring ball carrier.

A lot of players I just couldn't fit in anywhere.
Joseph and Betts particularly. Betts is more of a marking target than an opportunist any more. And his unwillingness to take responsibility for shots on goal should cost him imo.
Robbo's too sloppy.
O'hailpin's done.
Ditto T-bird
Hadley's probably been past by younger guys.
Ditto Houlihan.
Hammer - can we afford another tall with the smaller bench?
And the young guys I still need to see more of ie dare, cachia, Tuohy, Davies etc etc

Where have I gone terribly wrong?

Still a lot of time before Round 1 2011 but how about this?

B: Touhy Austin O'Keefe
Yarran
HB: Russell Bower Laidler
C: Waite Judd Simpson
HF: Collins Henderson
F: Walker Kruezer Garlett
Foll: Warnock Gibbs Murphy
Int: Lucas Ellard White Armfield Robinson AJ Kerr Betts

Great Left foot kicks down one side out of defence & wing.
Several options for kick outs!
Yarran to play loose HB, create and run and develop engine.
Touhy to become tough BP we need.
Waite and Walker to rotate forward pocket and wing.
Icke said today Kruezer will play more forward with Hendo. Hopefully Casboult will be an option.
Deeper midfield.
Austin to step and handle bigger players.
Lots of flexibility and run and better skilled side than before.
Still have 18,33,41,58 & PSD to come.

Who's the designated Grigg smasher.

I pick Touhy.

Armfield - Jamieson - Lucas
Bower - White - Russell
Simpson - McLean - Garlett
Murphy - Henderson - Yarran
Betts - Waite - Warnock

Kruezer - Judd - Gibbs

int: Scotland - Joseph - Carrazzo
sub: Walker

I think Walker is the ideal sub. Can play tall or small. Forward or back and he would inject genuine pace.

Would love to see Garlett push up the ground a bit more.
McLean will prove the doubters wrong. He is our best inside mid IMO.
Lucas and Russell give us some class coming out of the backline, while Armfield & Bower give us a couple of players who are prepared to take the game on. I think White showed signs last season, and I'd give him first crack at CHB.
Gibbs in to the middle as everyone has discussed.
Loved the signs from Henderson at CHF this year, and would keep Waite at FF. Also think Warnock should start in the forwardline. He showed signs that he can take a strong grab. With only 3 on the bench, I'd prefer to have 3 runners on the bench.
Need to see more of Laidler & Collins before I know how they'll fit in. Ellard, Davies & Thornton would be my emergencies.

You can leave Kreuzer out for starters. He won't be ready until half way through the season.

Touhy is a big call seeing as he has just broken into the Bullants seniors.

And there are six months to go and we might jag someone in the draft who will get a game.

Concentrate on the cricket for a while.

Given Rattens comments that Collins and Laidler will play 44 games next year) something like:

Armfield Jamison Bower
Laidler O'hAilpin Russell
Simpson Judd Walker (switching with Waite at FF)
Garlett Henderson Yarran
Kreuzer Waite Betts
Warnock Gibbs Murphy (starting on wing at centre bounces with
Carrazzo Collins Lucas Scotland Walker/Waite going into middle
to supply bigger body)

and excluding Bullants-listed players

Tuohy O'keeffe? Davies
Anderson? Austin? Dare
Houlihan McLean Joseph
Kerr Thornton Robinson
Casboult White Cacchia
Hampson Hadley? Ellard
Donaldson?? Tiller?? NEWBIES

(?= might be delisted ??=Delisted might be re-rookied)

My view is that we have 7 players that are walk up starts;

Judd, Murphy, Russell, Simpson, Waite, Gibbs and Jamo.

Everyone else is fighting for the other 15 spots.

Kreuzer can ride from Bendigo to Bathurst, so I expect him to be able to walk by round 1....hence a walk in.

My money is on Warnock being pencilled in every game as #1 ruckman.

But I know what you mean....Jamo because there is no other alternative for FB....we want competition for all spots.

The club isn't going to rush Kreuzer back despite how he looks or how the knee feels. I'd expect a return around Round 5.
