Donaldson looked great in a preseason game. Seemed to have plenty to work with.

I don't value picks 67 onwards in this draft.

I disagree with not using them though. IMO a speculative pick used on a young kid who MIGHT make it is better than clogging the list with older players that we know WON'T make it.

Good point.

Who would you drop from the list to give you right of way to selection:

67
87
104
121
138

You've left pick 70 out of your calculations twice now. Ratts' made mention of it in an interview, so it's 5 picks in the national draft.

I was a shattered man last year when Jake Edwards was delisted.

Good post abns

I know I didn't see Donalson during the year, but I tell you, what I saw of him in the preseason really impressed me.
He really attacked training with gusto and stood out more than some of our best 35 on those 2 days I saw.

I know its preseason, but I said the same about Cachia and got nailed by some experts at TC, but others who witnessed Cachia during the year also saw some GREAT signs in him too.

I have a feeling about Donalson...as a tall forward of the future. Not necessarily a KPF, but as a lead up marking forward...remember a kid named Pearce who plied that role in 1995? Mmmmmmmm.

Don't get me wrong, Donaldson has some raw talent. However, Jimmae has pointed out this pesky rule that we can only nominate 3 Rookies (before the draft) that we are retaining as Rookies. And I just think Cachia, Levi and Dare are ahead of Donaldson. He's not ready for our Primary List, IMO.

However, if Donaldson is not picked up in the National Draft or Pre-Season Draft, my understanding is that we can nominate him as a Rookie before the Rookie Draft. So we'd end up keeping him on as a Rookie anyway (but obviously we'd run the risk that another club - probably a WA club, most likely - might snap him up late in the ND or in the PSD).

I'll promote Casboult ASAP not a problem.

Cachia needs a massive pre season but he will be good.

Dare is a nice player as well and will be promoted to the primary list next year IMO.

Donaldson needs alot of time and work and is 2 years away from knocking on the door.

If we can find a rookie with better potential to be fast tracked you will have to look at it.

Casboult and Dare probably would have been promoted if Thornton and Setanta were traded.

Cachia will be promoted if an unrelenting hard nut is required...I'll play him ahead of Hads no prob.

Chris Johnson and Brad Fisher should be gone.

Don't think Ellard will get the chop. Has shown plenty this year, at both levels, and should be a regular fixture in next years side.

Not sure if we can go any further with Joey Anderson. Hasn't shown enough with the opportunities given to him.

Well I could probably make 10 changes to the playing list
Anderson, Austin, Browne Fisher Johnson Okeeffe Tiller Wiggins Jacobs and Grigg
All for different reasons but not seen as part of our main side. Austin and O'Keeffe for medical reasons (their bodies may not let them play) Anderson and Browne as adding Laidler and Collins pushes them even further down the pecking order. I would also delist O'Hailpin but given the coaches comments he will stay on the list for one more year.

2 ADDITIONS - Laidler and Collins
Promote Garlett and Ellard and the resat of the rookies can stay on the rookie list for one more year. That gives us 6 selections at the draft. The first 2-3 I would like to select key position players. I am not a guru but Tom Lynch Josh Walker and Matthew Watson would probably suffice.

Reckon they'll keep O'Keefe and possibly rookie list him.

Rhys O'Keeffe (yes, that's the correct spelling) is raring to go for pre-season. You don't cut a player of his talent. Has overcome his back problems, is fit and fingers crossed will play across half-back for Carlton in 2011.

I know you said fingers crossed but is he really that good?

I mean, it seems like a big call that a guy who has barely played a game in any form of competition since his arrival would force his way into the seniors merely by finishing a pre-season.

Yes he is. His kicking skills are such that he could pinch hit forward as well. His pre-season is huge. As far as I'm concerned, next to Kreuzer it's the biggest at the club. RO'K has a good one and backs it up in the practise matches, it gives us really good flexibility with where other guys play. Lucas, Laidler, Russell, Gibbs etc.

We've already told Thornton he won't be delisted. Obviously he's got to want to play. Aside from his stubbornness, I see no reason why he can't take on a Nick Maxwell type roll down back. Fisher, Johnson and Tiller won't be so lucky. Shame Tills wasn't re-rookied and developed properly. Can definitely play.

You've always been a massive fan of ROK and I hope you're right about him.

I'd love to say that I agree with you but the truth is I don't think I've see him fit at training, let alone playing a game. It sounds like he has all the skills to be exactly what we need so fingers crossed he gets his body right. Between he, Laidler and Tuohy we could have some very decent defensive options next year.

Doc is there any chance you can give us a run down on what his injury problems were? I remember hearing something about his back and hamstrings. Also, what makes you think he's over them?

cheers.

I reckon we need Lucas down back, just so good at linking up with run which is something we lack down back.
