Good appointment. So now we need a forward coach and a VFL coach.

is it just me or does Alan's interview on the website sound like we just hired a new senior coach??

Umm his role is to work with the other assistants, oversight development and come up with our match-day tactics??

[quote="Agro jr"][quote="buzzaaaah"]This is why Collingwood have a Reserves Team rather than are aligned with a VFL team./quote]

It's a great point junior. Brown would have been very hands on at Collingwood, at the Westpac centre and involved in Collingwood meetings.

Interesting and I agree with some other sentiments- it makes it a little difficult to define a clear role for Ratten now- particularly if Laidley joins the brigade. Clear structures are going to have to be implemented.. big big challenge for Ratts-- hasnt really stamped his authority on our team by way of his coaching methodology- will be an even bigger hurdle to stamp his authority on the line coaches we've assembled.

 for the appointments .. lets hope we have a few more surprises

Yes I remember that thread and agree with you 100% - I also have my own theory and that is its not just important from a player development point of view that we should have our own VFL Team its also important for the long term future of our football club - that we should stake out our own territory in Melbourne, as we (an no other Melbourne based club) can no longer rely on a suburban heartland the size of Carlton for long term survival.

Western Bulldogs - have staked out their turf in the Western Suburbs.

Hawthorn - have done the same in the Eastern Suburbs.

St. Kilda - are doing it down the South East and Mornington Peninsula.

Essendon* - to a lesser extent are taking on Melbournes North West.

Geelong - obviously have their own town and surrounding Western District.

Carlton should do the same with Melbourne's North - which I know has been Collingwood's traditional heartland - but whilst Collingwood have taken their eye off the ball in Melbourne in their efforts to become a national brand - we should take the opportunity to take ownership of the Melbournes North.

Step 1 - Stand alone team in VFL (Northern Blues) playing in a Navy Blue Strip. Do what we can to bring Northern Bullants into it quietly with a merger or kicking and screaming via takeover.

Step 2 - Play and train at Visy Park.

Step 3 - Establish links with local schools and local businesses and local football clubs - to attract supporters, sponsorships and players.

This is not a short term plan - but a long term vision and if our Board were serious about our long term survival without handouts from generous (but welcome) benefactors - we should seriously look at it or something similar otherwise we are not going to struggle with our support base in the next 20 to 30 years.

We should do this quickly and thoroughly as already Richmond have started this process by building a training base in Craigieburn and North Melbourne will start on this process as they have already realized that they cant sustain themselves just as North Melbourne.

Fitzroy have already disappeared within 50 years of being the most successful club in the VFL - and we are already 15 years into what could be our most unsuccessful period in the clubs history.

Good luck to Gavin.
I've met Rowdy quite a few times and he's a lovely bloke. However, if I was a senior coach looking for someone who wouldn't rock the boat or step on my toes, he's the bloke I'd pick. Personally, I want blokes who will challenge the senior coach and keep him on his toes. Hopefully the remaining appointments will fit that bill. Not trying to sound negative but that's the way I see it. Hopefully I'm wrong and he turns out a great appointment.

Yes, I am sure I heard Ratten say that they will be heavily involved in Trade week.

I guess he meant in the coaching department, not players. So it seems we have the right operators
on board, have we got the right tools ???????

I love this place

Club hires untried inexperienced assistants = Ratts is afraid of getting sakced and the administration doesn't know what it's doing
Club hires well-credentialed and experienced assistants = Proof that Ratts is going to be sakced

Makes me wonder what might happen if Ratts leads us to a flag.
"We should've been undefeated and would've been if Ratts reacted quicker and had a structure in place that game when half the team got shot in the second half"

Do you think Richardson might do this?

A few notes from Brown's interview on 3AW...

– Said it's been a whirlwind couple of days

– Ratten rang during week, the opportunity arose, seriously considered it and took it to grow and improve his coaching, need to move on

– No room to grow as much as needed at Collingwood and was the main reason for the move, still cant quite believe it

– Hopes that the move will increase his chances/better prepare him for senior coaching

– Have to experience different cultures; loyalty and gut feel prevented him from leaving Pies sooner

– Hasn’t slept the last couple of nights, leaves Collingwood with sadness, but looking forward to new opportunity

– Will be working with defenders, something to offer there, particularly after working with Mick for 10 yrs

– Exciting to go to a club that’s on the up with a lot of talent

Did some work earlier in the year at the lexus centre over a few day and left thinking two things.......Paul licuria was the nicest bloke in the whole joint and Gavin Browne was arrogant.

Maybe that arrogance is what's needed to give a few a kick up the bum.

I just hope it's not part of a plan by the pies to derail us!! :sly:

Adelaide still won't give us Pick 14.

Wait and see I guess....

Both the Richardson and Brown appointments were on the CFC website pretty much as soon as they were announced. I'd say that until the same happens for Barker we can assume nothing's been signed.

A few days ago Swann (on SEN) said he had not been signed. There have been no announcements since then that I'm aware of. Meanwhile Richardson and Brown were everywhere. Id' say Barker has not been signed.

No, it was mis-reported.
