Ratten needs to keep his hands beside himself when on the bench. :smoking:

I've got the feeling all year that something wasn't right at the club. There seemed to be a distinct lack of passion and purpose among the playing group. To me this seems like further evidence that there are some issues at the club amongst the players. However I'm not close enough to the club for it to be more than just a feeling.

Maybe Ratten put all the players on notice after the Fev brownlow, Hoops & Walkers crown nightcap, the booze cruise etc to remind players why they are playing for the club and that reason was not to party and piss up as a group of mates.

Some have heeded the message, some have had their papers stamped, that feeling you have is that nervous uncomfortable feeling when the boss just fired a bunch of people that you thought were doing an OK job.

the 'bar' has been raised and some are up for it and some are not.

it's all positive and provides us with options....

......we need to make changes if we are going to move beyond the bottom end of the eight

I noticed that. Momentary case of Tossteitis Pubis?

---

Players leaving? Natural attrition. Grigg might be one of those that needs a change of club to blossom, if at all. Walker's unfortunately a perpetual injury hazard and Jacobs, despite merit, doesn't look like the 'ruckman of the future' that Kreuzer is.

I'd like to see them all stay and be successful, but they're not on auto-select and for reasons of inconsistency, injury and limitation, maybe they know it.

the guys interviewed on stage at the B&F (refer CCTV) - note Murph and Jordan - demonstrate a growing maturity. We have a collection of young guys growing into men.......

....to me there is a boldness and honesty about their aspirations. And most certainly a sense of UNITY.

to be successful we have to be uncompromising about our standards.

Walker no 2 in the draft, Grigg 19 in the draft - not good enough, either we are selecting the wrong players or we do not know how optimise their ability. Geelong 1999, 2001 great selections - We needed a great year in selections when we had the chance.

It's easy to see the obvious when you make it so simple and so obvious.

We have to get better.
We have to turn over the list.
We have to trade for high draft picks.
We have to trade high picks and good players for good players.

I love the option to improve.

We need to cut our losses too.

If they were not made of the right stuff for this club well then....... that's what they are.

Walker would be great in a team like Varcoe is in Geelong, but at pick No 2 I expect him to be a leader of the club in every game he plays. He doesn't do that.

As for Grigg. If you can't kick you shouldn't be playing AFL. That's how it was when I was growing up.
When Carrots can kick better...well that says it all.

If an opposing team wants to give us value for these guys, then lets do it.

Win - Win.

So did we use our number 2 and 19 pick on players that had poor dispossal. We can not afford to stuff up early picks.

Agreed...but there wasn't much on offer in Walker's year (afetr Cooney) and project freak Hampson was picked ahead of Grigg when we had 17 and 19, such was that year.

I suppose in a way we got dudded with those high picks when you consider Simpson was pick 45.
But yeah, we could have done better as its turned out. Now we're looking for better.

In walkers defence he didnt get to our club at a good time and on top of that was unlucky with injury which interupted his development.

He would still be of value to the team if he could stay fit and regain some upper body strength to stick the big tackles. He isnt a complete dud.

Grigg is also not a complete dud. We just dont want to pay what he is wanting. Good on us.

Dawes, Petterd, Tippett, Hogan, Goldstein, Goldsack and Lindsay Thomas all came after Grigg in the '06 draft

Sylvia, Waters, Ray, Mundy, Rischitelli and Sam Fisher all came after Walker in th '03 draft

Yes we need to set the bar high, but FFS, lets try and minimise the screw ups first.

The Grigg decision was a woeful one. Has shown nothing on the field and nothing off field

Considering the draft has been running for over 20 years I don't believe anyone can use hindsight as an excuse. We are crap at drafting late first round and second round range. I am guessing we have the poorest record in the league in this range. It's not good enough actually. It somewhat makes up for it in the late rounds but late first round and second round picks should be the clubs bread and butter and we continuously screw it up.

I know a guy who when you say "'Good Morning!" he says

"What do you mean by that???"

Storm in a C–cup.

I can't wait for trade week and the rafts of new faces.
