There will be a panel of good assistants and Ratts pushing us forward in 2011.

I am looking forward to big things next year with a super commited playing group. Top 4 at least.

Source? Or is purely a hunch or sense
of many on TC?

We have no idea if he's going to coach beyond 2011.

Its purely a couple of people who've backed themselves into a corner making rather rash statements earlier this year and now have no choice but to keep getting more outlandish with their claims.

He may not coach beyond 2011, but to think some of these guys would know....

Isn't that the football depts job....and wouldn't they have a rep who reports to the board? How many games of football have Costa, McGuire and Kennett played?

i must say, i dont know the facts at all, but if they club have no intentions of keeping Ratten after 2011, then get rid of him now. it is only putting our progress on hold for another year.

i hope its not the case, but if keeping ratten for one more year is only going to cause tormoil and concern for both the club and the players, what is the benefit in keeping him?

if the club has someone inline, then get him now, otherwise complete support, and everything that can be done, should be done for Ratten to be successful.

to date, i have been happy with Rattens and the clubs progress each year. I personally think, this season past, was more than okay, considering the re-structure of a post fevola/stevens era, as well as players like Thorton/Houlihan/Fisher/Wiggins playing less and less of a role.

im expecting futher changes at this years draft, and further improvement next year, but if they club has no intention of keeping ratts beyong 2011, get rid of him now!!

(i dont know if that is the case or not, its jsut my opinion)

Dean Laidley to be appointed 'Senior Assistant Coach' looking more and more likely as the week progresses.

Ok

Deep breath

So does anyone have any mail on other candidates we have been speaking to - besides Barker and Laidley?

Dr that sounds like good news.

Dean was on SEN this morning, and he sounded like he was waiting for an offer.

Rumour was that he was meeting with us today. Is this right ?

one of the only hold ups is convincing Ratten that a senior assistant coach is what this club needs..

Lots of things up in the air. Mark Riley may make a move to List Manager if Steven Icke packs his bags post-trade deadline. That would leave vacant forward, midfield and defensive line coaches. If this were the case, I'd be throwing money (and lots of it) at Mark Neeld (Collingwood) and Chris Scott (Freo)...Alan Richardson unlikely...Adrian Hickmott and David Teague still in the mix for the defensive post. Won't know anything until after trade week most likely.

Also re: Icke- I don't love the idea of him being at the forefront of our trade negotiations next week if he's going to be leaving our club a few days after..

Not a good look if he leaves now though Josh. He's been talking to managers and discussing list changes, contracts and footy dept processes throughout the entire year. The footy season still has a few weeks to run. You're just going to have to trust his integrity and FWIW, I do. He hasn't yet departed, so we're just going to have to wait and see. As most can appreciate, the sneaky leakers that were there in the past just aren't there anymore. That is a good thing.

I'm of the understanding that Riley has told West Coast 'Thanks but no thanks' in relation to their List Manager position and I'm not sure if Icke has put his hand up re: that role.

If this Laidley business is true I think it's a huge win for the club, and Ratts.

I don't believe Ratts has ever been questioned as a teacher of the game, and as such, he probably is an ideal candidate to remain on the boundary during games for the instant feedback and teaching role he took on the last few weeks of the year.

Laidley's clear strength is tactical nous as we know, and I imagine he would be perfect sitting up in the stands reacting to the more statistical feedback and tactical flow of the game. A combination of those two could really maximise their strengths.

I hope this happens.

I totally agree. Add Neeld and Scott as line coaches and it would be a very strong box.

Thanks for the info one and all, very much appreciated

A lot of change, I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Hopefully we get this right.
