And therein lies a problem Cazz. Look at the coaching staff we've had for the last 2 years...

Ratten - minimal experience as an assistant at a bottom club
Harvey - never coached before
Lappin - never coached before
Montgomery - never coached before
Bradley - less than a year coaching before
Riley - experience as a coach in WAFl and at a bottom AFL club

How could any reasonable club put together a coaching department with so little experience? And the very same people are about to re-structure the coaching department. You may have trust in the Club to make the right choices, but there are many who don't, and for pretty good reason.

Easy to have a crack now but that group did get us into two finals two years in a row and I think it is fair to say we should have won both of them but blew it in the end due to some of the players making some poor decisions at crucial times.

Regards Cazzesman

When 11 wins gets u into the finals it's nothing to really get a woody over is it?
7th and 8th in reality are just also rans, and normally not more than a game or 2 away from finnishing 10th.

I hope we don't have a final 10 after GWS come in...ya know just so the TV rights sell for more.

You obviously didn't listen to his quarter time address. It was amazing. Better than Teagues even. We should get him.

Get Fitzgerald - He's the guy that made Daisy into a player

It is a fair point, though. Let's face it, we could and should have been playing in semi-finals the last two seasons. From then on, who knows how far we could have gone? I doubt we'd have won the flag but am confident that at worst, we'd have pushed the Bulldogs both times. A combination of our own poor play at critical moments as well as bad luck prevented us from doing so. But we were hardly blown out of the water by manifestly superior opposition ala Essendon* in 2009. I wonder how much this skews our perceptions of our coaching staff and our progress in general.

You seem to have forgotten how far down we were when Ratts took over. We might be 'also rans' now but that is better than the 'never ran' we use to be pre 2008. It is actually a long process to go from bottom 4 to mid 8 to top 4. Nothing in the AFL comes easily as the Pies and Saints have just proved.

My point still stands about our last 2 finals games in the context of the other posts above.

Hope Ratten is not going to become another Voss.

So the CEO has no idea of who's being hired and fired?? WTF is going on at that joint???

It certainly strikes me as odd.

I mean, if it's a footy dept decision thats fine and'it's entirely appropriate for hirings and firings to be conducted without input from the CEO, but it is strange that he would not have been given at least a "heads up" that one of the seior coaches was getting the chop.

If , for no other reason, that the CEO gets ambushed by a Hutchy in the carpark and asks him why assistant coach X was sacked.

I would be a little embarrasing if he had to respond ërrr dunno, didn't know he was".

I reckon the CEO should be made aware if ANY staff member is about to be sacked. We're not talking BHP here.

Quite possibly.

How many people are employed full time by CFC?

Probably indicates that it is purely a footy dept. decision.

I would be extremely disappointed and amazed if that was the case.
Ratten's still got his learner plates on AFAIC and decisions like that shouldn't be his to make without board and administrative endorsement and approval. We want the best people in assistant roles, not people who are yes men and non threatening to insecure senior coaches. I'm not saying Ratten fits that description but there needs to be checks and balances to ensure the right decisions are being made for the right reasons.

All is not well in Denmark when the CEO of our football club is completely oblivious to the removal of 60% of our coaching panel and finds out about it in the media.. As I've said previously, this is our one chance to really make an off- field statement by securing a mix of innovative, professional and well regarded line coaches. So far (read Barker) I am completely uninspired. Would love to see some semblance of a game plan from our football club regarding filling these pivotal spots. Get your act together.

IF it is true, agree wholeheartedly Josh.

I would like to think it isn't. Otherwise it is truly mind boggling...

Normally I would agree, however, the same rumor was posted a week or two ago on CSC. Now unless Hutchy got it from there then it appears to have some legs.

I hope it emboldens Swann to get right in the mix when deciding who we hire.

He certainly is getting the best out of their players. Someone like Zorzi at the age of 30 is dominant like a G Ablett in the SANFL. He is killing them and I think Bassett gets the best of his players. I believe there will be a few players drafted out of Norwood, a combination of young and mature (low 20's in age).

I heard he is contracted next year with Norwood but I would think Adelaide would be very interested in him.

I missed the game as I was in Adelaide last week watching Norwood, going back there this weekend for the GF!

Are you people so gullible that you believe everything you read?

Both Lappin and Montgomery knew their contracts weren't going to be renewed. There was no sacking to be done. In fact it was a mutual decision and was so ever since Monty approached Swann and Icke to inform them that he felt he needed a change and would throw his hat in the ring for the Port Adelaide position. Carlton, as most clubs would, said that they'd support his application.

That's about all she wrote in that one. Swann, Icke and Ratten are the decision makers. They naturally report to the board about football department changes.

We need to land two BIG fish on this one.
1. Either an experienced and well credentialled assistant with experience in a premiership winning/playing culture fron the last 3-7 years (Eg Neeld, Chris Scott, Lambert etc)
OR
2. A Dean Laidley/Mark Williams overseer to support Brett Ratten

AND
3. someone like a Kirk, Goodwin, Cousins or even Ling/Milburn if he hangs up the boots and is interested

Anything less than this is a farce by the club.
IMHO, Ratten is developing too slowly as a coach. He needs support. He needs to hear some fresh perspectives from those who've been successful. Let's go and get him the best available otherwise even top 6 in 2011 is going to be tough..and Judd turns 28 at the end of next year. Fail to plan = plan to fail
