CFC makes offer to Big Red

Excellent move Blues. I hope they all stay, but making such a statement now just strengthens our hand at the trade table should their be any suitors.

Jacobs has been the best ruckman on our list for the past 2 yrs yet was consistently considered 4th choice and would lose his spot in the team any time one of the others showed a bit of form.

This is simply not true. Firstly, Kreuzer has been our best ruckman for the last two years, until he did his knee.

Secondly, Jacobs started in the ruck last year, until he was injured, and then Hampson's form kept him out after he recovered.
This year, the club gave Warnock a chance for 5 games, then dropped him to bring Jacobs into the side, where he stayed until his form dropped off a cliff (against the Bulldogs and Sydney). Over this period, he was clearly considered the no.2 ruckman. Hampson again took his chance, and was playing good footy until his ankle injury against Essendon*. Seeing as his injury only kept him out for one week, Sauce wasn't exactly spectacular against Geelong, and we were playing at Subiaco, Jacobs could hardly feel aggrieved about missing the Fremantle game.

Carlton's tall timber off limits

Out-of-favour defender Bret Thornton has informed the club he will assess his trade options after playing only 12 games this year. Andrew Walker is also considering his future.

the more i see of it, the more i really want to keep Jacobs and all of them.

Stay with me here.

I have huge hopes for a Warnock/Jacobs ruck combination as our main ruck duo!

Settle down, i think Kreuze is an absoulte gun!! But i think he could be an absolute star if he was able to develop into a player of a similair mold to A.Goodes. I watched the replay again, and A.Goodes is a freak. Tall, quick, Agile, strong mark, great kick. He is near impossible to match up on. So many times on sunday Goodes was the answer. Took very important marks and kicked very important goals. I think Kreuzer is the one player on our list who has every potential in the world to actually become a similair style of player and he would be near impossible to match up on.

I thought Warnocks last month was excellent, and he is good around the grounds and up forward, but he isnt of the ilk of Kreuzer. I just think Kreuzer is going to be something special, and if developed right, still as a ruck, but more along the lines of a ruck rover type role, he could be an out and out star of the competition, but he could only do that, if we have the other due taking the rucks for most of the time, while he develops into that role. He can go forward and clunk a few, just like on sunday.

Jacobs, is probably the best tap ruckmen of the lot. His third quarter was superb and he is no slouch around the ground either. While he doesnt have the poise of skill around the ground of Kreuzer or Warnock, he is certainly no mug, and a real asset to the side. Warnock/Jacobs to form our ruck combinations, with both having a combination of resting on the bench, and resting up forward (to give the likes of Waite/Henderson a chance to rest)

Where does that leave Hampson. I would seriously like to see him given time to develop into a permanent CHB! He has all the attributes to actually monster that position. And while he might not have the footy smarts yet, he certainly has the physical attributes to play that role. I like Austin as a CHB as well, but the prospect of someone like Hampson, playing as a CHB, which his size and agility is very appealing. If we can develop both, into true CHB, we are starting to develop some serious depth to our list, in all positions around the ground. Hampson, playing as a CHB also free's Bower to be the third tall, which is his role, rather than a CHB. Bower is a half back flanker, but out of necessity is playing the role of CHB.

so lets keep all four. keep Jacobs/Warnock as our prime ruck duo, develop Kreuzer into an elite match winner and see if Hampson could be developed into a CHB.

I agree. I don't think they have any intention of keeping all 4, but it's the right strategy to use when going into a poker match.

i should add, if we do lose Jacobs to either SA side, it would want to be for Trengrove from Port, or Davis from the Crows.

ruckmen are an absolute commodity, and we are to lose one, it must be for something we are in desperate need of. CHB!

though, as i alluded to early, id rather keep all four.

I've been a fan of Sammy since his U18 days. I always knew he'd be something solid.

I wanna keep him!

Would anybody object to starting kreuzer up forward, warnock & Jacobs in the ruck and hampson down at CHB???

Jacobs tap work is top notch. I reckon he's ahead of hampson at the moment. Nothing against hampson of course, just saying that kreuzer, Jacobs and warnock seem to have developed into the role already and hampson still has some work to do (& it's not even guaranteed he'll make it)!

So I see, but instead of starting a new thread, I stuck it where it should be, in an existing thread.

If its not this trade week, it will be next. You cant keep AFL quality players in the VFL for long.

It all looks rosy when all 4 big men are fit and able to play but seriously how often does that happen in a season. You can back it in that one of the 4 is always injured. If they all want to stay I think the 3 plus the versatile Special K is a good thing. To be able to have 2 of the 3 always fit and firing for every game would be a huge bonus. If one is abit sore then give him a rest for a game.

Not a chance we can keep four quality rucks on the list.

One of them will have to eventually be traded - such is life.

Trade one of them for a top pick and promote Casboult as the fourth ruck.

May as well cash-in.

Spot on. If they all want to stay then keep them all. We know what Kreuzer is capable of so just need to manage his return correctly. No pressure there if we have the other three available. We know that Jacobs and Warnock are ruck men but with Hampson we're still not 100% that Ruck is his best position. We will be able to manage the boy's development and health (no one will need to play if they are sore thus risking longer term injury) and we can adopt a horses for courses approach to team selection. It's all good in fact it's better than good it's absolutely sensational!!!!

I agree also.

I would not be unhappy to see all 4 on our list in 2011 but I have a feeling these comments were made to try and up the ante from any interested clubs.

Still cant see how we can go with 4 established rucks.

Plus the key here is will all 4 WANT to remain if they cannot be guaranteed a spot? No way we can play all 4 in the senior side.

Injuries can and do happen I know...but the MC shouldnt be banking on this. The players involved certainly wont be

Personally, I reckon what that article's really saying is "Hey, if you want one of our rucks, the price has just gone up."

Everyone's tradable for the right price.

edit: sorry kots, didn't realise you beat me to it.

If they want to stay we have the strongest and deepest ruck division in the comp.

If they don't we'll get some good picks as compensation.

Win/Win

While everyone is tradable for the right price, surely the club can see the potential in all of the ruckmen on making a difference on the league. As alluded to earlier, perhaps Kreuzer becomes a 2m ruck rover. I have been impressed with Robbie when he has been in the forward line. Who lines up on him? A quick run off defender - well then kick the footy on top of his head, a player of similar stature - well Robbie has proven that he can beat them on the lead. And he seems to be an accurate kick. Get Sauce lumbering through the middle and then Hammer, who is the least natural, but the can be argued is the best athlete.

While all may not reach the heights they can, all of these guys are on an upward spiral. It is not like they have played 150 games and reached their zenith.

While we need a CHB, I really hope the club think outside the usual AFL norm, as these four have the potential to make this club serious contenders.
