I think he means we will go a tall back rather than a tall fwd, or maybe we will trade nearly all our picks and players and be incredibly active and not hold onto many picks in the draft, ie: go the trade not the draft.

We have a young list so if anyone is going to give up on a draft it might be us this year --- after all we do have some holes to fill and a 18 year old aint going to do the trick when you consider Judd is 27 next year so one would think the priority is to beef up the list sooner than later ??

I agree.

If we can get Tarrant cheap it would not be so bad. Say thornton and anderson (freo love the vfl players). Tarrant nominates us and we play freo against the PSD we may even get him cheaper. Using the luke ball tactics.

If we can then get a pick for walker we can trade off the worse of that rounds 2picks with Jacobs to Port for Trengove ( i know its been said they wont trade him).

Tarrant steady's our backline for a couple of years while Bower, Jamo and Trengove truly develop.

Maybe? . ....or we get picks for ruck and walker and make a play for in contract Merrett.

No t in his name. It's just Chris Tarrant.

Ratten has said we will be active during the trade period, given this strategy what do we expect:

My 2bw:

Expected

Either - Hampson to GC for picks or Jacobs to PA / Adel for a defender.

Different

Don't trade any ruckman, but recycle ..... Tarrant for pick 18?

Yuck.

I'm confused. :confused:

I can still see a Thornton for Tarrant trade.

Walks and Setanta to Syd
Swans first pick, pick 19 in return
(Walks to Syd is a rumour that is going around and there was word last Oct Syd were sniffing around Setanta)

Hammer to GC for pick 26 - they need a ready-to-go ruck, he is from Qld and has enormous upside, and is contracted to us so they have to play ball to get him. He hasn't come on yet so his value goes down from 17 which we used to get him to 26

Reckon Thornton will not have any value and will go to GC via PSD

So we have picks

18
19
26
35
52

Trade pick 26 and Browne to Freo for Tarrant

Trade pick 35 for Chad Cornes

Keep picks 18, 19 and 52 and go to draft

Put Warnock at full forward and bomb it long...who could outmark him?

Move Henderson to the backline and drop/ trade Bower and Walker for something decent?

Is that different to what most people think?

BTW - I wouldn't trade Sentanta. He has a good start, give him another chance.

Two targets that may be achievable/available that could help us..

Salopek - A swap for a ruckman which Port need. He wants to come back to Vic I believe. Not sure if his shoulder is any good.

Matthew Warnock - Played in the VFL most of the season, would provide a tall back fairly cheaply.

i took it to mean that we would trade a ruckman other than jacobs (who previously most people were tipping). Jacobs has shown he is more than capable and despite having played just 17 games would be able to hold down first ruck in at least half the teams* in the competition. After saturday's game, we'd be nuts to trade him so it would come down to which of our other ruckman that we might consider trading.

If you think about approx trade values, you'd get

jacobs = 2nd round pick/late 1st
hampson = 1st round pick
warnock = 1st round pick + sweetener (player or 2nd round pick)
kreuzer = 2 X 1st round picks

*If not immediately then within a couple of years when the current primary ruckman is gone - ie adelaide, hawthorn, richmond, gold coast, port, westcoast, sydney, st kilda, geelong, dogs

Please please do not recruit Tarrant. Way to much downside and no upside.

The word is that David Mundy wants to come back to Victoria. He'd be a great get if we could land him.

Agree, that a big-bodied CHB would be great, but as an example just wondering how Collingwood can get away with Nathan Brown, and Ben Reid as their key posts, same with St Kilda with Fisher, Blake, Gilbert or WB with Lake and only Williams and Morris as support, Sydney without LRT and Bolton got away with only having Richards to support Grundy.

Sure some of these guys are quality, but do they really have much more size than what we do. Height no, but strength maybe. That can always be fixed. Theory seems to be Bower would be better off as a running half-back, but not sure his skills and decison making is good enough for me to want him as the guy that we look to as a 'quarter-back' type.

Can we not get away with Bower, Jamison, Austin/White, or if we recruit another forward maybe send back Henderson/Waite or even try O'hAilipin again and fix problems elsewhere, or am I under-estimating the key backs from the top sides?

Bock is gone, most agree that Tarrant is only wanted if we dud Freo - and considering at least one other club (Hawks) are keen not sure how we can do this. Who else? Merrett's name has been thrown around but apart from that am I missing someone whose going to supposedly - in the short term - fill this hole?

I don't know if Walls knows anything about what goes on at Carlton but he was pretty adamant about the Blues looking at backmen (pretty sure it was plural) that can hit a target.

Maybe Hurn is on the radar (who I don't mind), but please don't give Eddie up for it.

I have a a bad feeling.
