There's a difference between hopes and expectations.
I hope Jennifer Hawkins will sit on my lap and wriggle. It's not my expectation.

Hope to finish in the top 6 but expect to finish anywhere between 7th and 11th.

I expect 4 - 6 finish - unless injuries derail us.

I expect some will not be satisfied and some will.

I hope the club does an honest and thorough review of this season - where we got it right, where we got it wrong

I expect them to ignore this site when making that review.

I hope I am around then Jennifer and BV meet up.

I expect if I am she will choose my lap.

Copped a lot of shit today, esp by those filth supporters.
Most popular comment was, "thought you guys were supposed to learn from last years loss, bunch of losers".

What could i say accept that, "you guys haven't got there yet and have a history of choking in Grand Finals"

Anyway, had lunch with all my fellow Blues supporters today and the topic came up on
who we all think would be traded.
We all picked one player each and came up with,

Houla
Hampson
Walker
Betts
Thorton
Yarran (I strongly disagreed with this one)

Thoughts ?

Betts and Yarran will not be traded.
The others might. Who knows?

Still feeling the pain from the weekend....can't really focus on this.
If only Carlton had the salary cap concessions to recruit players such as Kennedy(The Swans)....but
that is all in the past i guess.

I hope Henderson practises holding his marks a lot over summer.
Extremely frustrating as he got in the right position enough times.

top 4 MUST be our aspiration in 2011

ie winning a final is no longer a sign of acceptable improvement.

Another pre-season into our young guns is obvious...

For all the hype on the loss of Fevola, I really hope we look to our midfield and set a plan of how do we replace Nick Stevens - just as big a loss to the team structure.

A second "A grade" quality midfielder with a solid body to support Judd is what we still desperately need. Judd is going to kill himself waiting, in the meantime...

In a perfect world, where we are injury free... our lineup might look something like this:

B: Bower Jamison Armfield
HB: o'Keefe *HOLE* Russell
C: Lucas Gibbs Simpson
HF: Garlett Henderson Yarran
F: Betts *HOLE* Waite

R: Warnock Judd Murph

INT: Grigg, McClean, Kreuzer, Scotland

Notice, im hanging hope on a fit and effective Rhys o'keefe. We are missing a true CHB and FF. Waite would be an amazing 3rd tall forward OR defender... im not confinced he could hold down a main slot though.

so the big top up of Tarrant AND Pavlich for walker, jacobs, houlihan and pick 9.
interesting...

I will be disappointed if we don't make the top 4 next year.

- The Cats will drop off with the likes of Scarlett, Ottens, Mooney, Chapman and Corey heading toward the twilight of their careers. If Ablett goes to the Suns then even a bigger fall for them.
- Saints have bugger all kids coming through (McEvoy looks OK but nothing special) whilst Hayes will be well past his prime.
- Swans will drop off a lot with Goodes (turns 31 in 2011), O'Keefe, Bolton nearing the end of their careers. Hannebery and Mumford very good but not much else coming through.
- Freo have some good kids but Pavlich, Tarrant, McPharlin are important players and are slowing up. If Barlow gets back to his best it won't be in 2011.

IMO at this stage (prior to trade week) the only teams that should be ahead of us next year are the Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Collingwood. Saying that if the Pies win the flag this year I'm not sure if they have the class to overcome a premiership hangover.

Our premiership window opens in 2011 - if we work hard and the footy gods smile apon us anything is possible (a key defender would be handy however).

I think we have plenty of upside to come.

Yesterday we had on the sidelines, Kreuzer, McLean, Yarran, Lucas, White and Grigg.

I truly believe we are a long long way from top 4.

I would definitely consider trading/delisting the following players.

1. Bower sorry ... he is just not up to it.
2. Thornton ... though he has tried his guts out for many years (won't get much for him tho).
3. Jacobs I know ... but I think we have to lose 1 of them ... and the others have more up-side.
4. Fisher ... no
5. Browne ... can't see a place for him.
6. Wiggins ... end of a long and winding road.
7. Tiller ... never made it.
8. Anderson ... nope.
9. Austin (maybe) ... he is on thin ice.

Incredibly depressed about Sunday. Missed opportunities by Judd and Waite etc cruelled us. Even that mark by Henderson at the end ... if only he had taken some time instead of handpassing.

As for the umpires ... just one word .. Discusting!

Depending on the draw, 13-16 wins.

Goals for a Successful Season
1) Top 4 finish (I expect 3-6, whereas at the begining of 2010 I expected 6-10)
2) Win at least one final

Along the way....
3) String together 4 wins, at least
4) Not lose any matches by more than 45 points

Expectations
I expect us to grit our teeth and play 4 quarters of EVERY match like we did 3Q on Sunday.
I expect to see the fruits of working v hard on SKILLS & TACKLING over summer.
I expect to see our game plan continue to evolve (i do think it improved this year...)
I expect to see Yarran work hard over summer to build his tank.
I expect to see Gibbs mould himself in the image of Hodge & Goddard (yes, they are the quarterbacks but they are ALSO the best, toughest midfielders in thier teams... maybe Lenny Hayes but you get my meaning)
I expect Murphy and Judd to kick 30+goals for the year.
I expect Russell to continue his development and become an elite defender (possibly AA). He took a major step on Sunday.

Hopes
I hope we keep Walker.
I hope we do NOT go for Tarrant - too risky re his role and effect on the team development. even if he plays at his best, I don't see him as a defensive general.
I would prefer a tough, skilled defender than a big defender - I think Bower will return to his best next season. Think his injuries and time off his legs had a bigger effect than we realise. Also, I think we have quite a few big defenders that we can develop.
I hope we beat Essendon*, Richmond and Collingwood every time we play them.

Whistler - this is whistler of your youth...
Similar expectation in the sense of improvement in numbers of players.
Expect improvement in the speed the coaching panel reacts to having their game plan worked out: and that they finally accept that you have no chance if you don't have a marking target coming out of the goalsquare.
Expect to win enough games to have a home first final.
Expect that Jamo continues to learn to take the game on and create through the corridor.
Expect to find you on the wing at the Dome again!
Go Blues!
