Obviously we are all gutted by our Elimination Final defeat and to do it 2 years in a row has a sour taste to it.

I need to have something to look forward to, so what are all our expectations for 2011 ?

Mine are:

I hope we do some SMART trading this year, clean out those who don't fit the bill.

Ratten to see out the year, maybe even put some of those critics put back in their places.

Finish top 6 would be nice and for @#$%&! sake, win a Final !!!!!!!

See Hendo bulk up and invest in a tube of grippo ?

Kruezer come back better than ever.

Warnock to do a full preseason and become the best ruckman going around in 2011.

I only want two things next year

1) Intensity

2) Consistency

Intangibles
Consistency - sick of Good Carlton/Bad Carlton
Intensity - have shown we can do it, lets keep it up CONSISTENTLY!
Self belief - we've gotten better at that so lets keep it up CONSISTENTLY!

Tangibles
Top 6 and home final
Win final
Hendo and Hammer (if he stays) to learn to take marks and hold them
Warnock and Hendo to bulk up
Jeff to become an absolute star
Eddie not to become the next Leon Davis
Supporting roles for Judd (got better at that but could improve)
Strengthen backline - chb/gorilla/both
Beat Hawthorn
NOT GET MCBURNEY FOR THREE GAMES IN A ROW

In all honesty, its a good thing we lost. A win would have allowed the club to sit back and make believe our list is fine. Our list is not fine. Your defense cannot concede 74 points in a finals half. pathetic. Bower is not a strong tall defender.

Priorities must be... trade out Jacobs and Thornton, definitely. Offer up walker and Carrazzo.

Draft some @#$%&! quality first round talls. Jesus.

No more cheap hole plugging.

Thing is we only really had 2 close could-go-either-way games this year - this week and last week.

Pretty much every other match was smash or be smashed.

We have an opportunity now, we have premiership reunions coming up for 81 and 82. I know that the spirit of Carlton already have a buddy system, but we need the former players to lift us to the next level.

Suggest how we should buddy up our players for 2011.

1. Stonger bodies for Jamo & Bower.
2. Stronger bodies around the contest, too, we need to get better at blocking/shepherding for our mates.
3. Better techniques to clear/create space in our F50.
4. Improved consistency/mental strength.
5. More miles in the legs, it takes time to become battle hardened.
6. We need to get better at winning the games we're expected to win.
7. A chance for a home final and the desperation to make the most of it.

I think our goal as a club should be top 4.

But the most important thing for me is to see the club with a defined game plan, that all the players know, and know their role within. So that when a player picks up the ball in a certain part of the ground, everyone else knows what he will do, and where they need to go as part of the system.

Took the liberty of mixing and matching your list below with some of
today's list, harder than it looks !!

Bortolotto with Hampson, both balding before their time.
Doull sorry, NO ONE compares with him.
English Dennis Armfield, to iron out the kinks.
Howell Bower, about as clumsy.
Hunter Kade Simpson, 100% goer.
Klomp Houlihan, could also be BOG with 5 touches.
Maylin Kane Lucas, but silkier.
McKay Gibbs, a few similarities
Perovic Levi Casboult, solve any problems with the drink !
Bosustow Garlett, the freakish comes easy.
Ditchburn no one, we need a dead eye dick like Ross was !!
Johnston Judd
Maclure Henderson, crash and bash machine lke Sellers.
Marcou Betts, as flaky, only with worse hair.
Ashman Murphy, hope he doesnt need a helmet in future.
Buckley Waite, he is the only supposed hard man we have got.
Fitzpatrick Kreuzer, a long way off but you can dream ?
Jones Jacobs, yeah he needs some tatts.
Sheldon Yarran, as may also kick winning goal in a Granny.
Wells Walker, they both wear number one, nothin else alike.
Harmes no one, oh for another Harmesy.
McConville Nope, i liked Macca too much.
Glascott Robinson, to learn how to punch above your weight

Love to see others match ups !

1) as mentioned by others CONSISTENT INTENSITY
2) back the coach by providing the best specialists around, I like Ratts coaching from the bench but we need better ppl in the supporting roles
3) A stronger and more confident Hendo which is what he has started to show, now hold the marks and all will be good
4) desperate to get a quality tall defender by whatever means available needs to be someone that is ready to go now not a player to develop we have enough opf those
5) marked improvement on this year even if it just means our losses are a lot closer the variance between win and loss margin wise was just too great this year

I said a few years ago that 2011 is when we should start to believe that there is enough talent, nous, professionalism and belief amongst the entire group to be a top 4 side.

Therefore, my expectations for next year are high. Very high. I went through the list last night and I've identified a few on the senior list that I don't think have the desire or competency to be consistently good, accountable or team players at this level. Two played yesterday. There are going to have to be some tough decisions made in the off-season...I'm not expecting to agree with all of them, but if we're to go forward as a football club and fix deficiencies - then sacrifices must be made.

I just want to be able to win a block of games

To win 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 in row - We need to be able to do that before we can move forward

It is imperative that we win a final. We have played in two finals and have been in winning positions in both of them. We need to get the monkey of our back.
We need to narrow the gap between our good performances versus our bad performances in a positive manner (consistency).

Yeah - we still struggle mentally although we've gotten a bit better as the year wore on.

Teams that have the wood on us really seem to get to us mentally - not sure how we can overcome this but I'm guessing the old "time and experience" is a factor. Baby steps this year beating St Kilda and Essendon* and Adelaide and Port in Adelaide.

I'm with Doc in that my expectations are high. I'm not sure about very high, but I think finishing out of the top 6 is unacceptable and we should really be pressing for top 4 most of the season. We had a bad 6 weeks of footy this year (By bad I mean diabolical) that derailed our season. A home final or top4 spot was ours if we really went after it. An almost certain prelim spot has become a 1st round exit.

As well as our list review, lets hope we have a fair dinkum football department review.
When Lethal is commenting on Henderson lack of body use knowledge in finals time, we need to be looking at whether we have the right guys teaching them. I back Ratts for next year. He has shown enough for me. But we need some better coaches.

Yes and if we get that we should be top 4 IMO with the maturing talent we have. No if or buts!

In a perfect world, where we are injury free... our lineup might look something like this:

B: Bower Jamison Armfield
HB: o'Keefe *HOLE* Russell
C: Lucas Gibbs Simpson
HF: Garlett Henderson Yarran
F: Betts *HOLE* Waite

R: Warnock Judd Murph

INT: Grigg, McClean, Kreuzer, Scotland

Notice, im hanging hope on a fit and effective Rhys o'keefe. We are missing a true CHB and FF. Waite would be an amazing 3rd tall forward OR defender... im not confinced he could hold down a main slot though.
