Apart from lacking a bit of polish today, I think we can be more disappointed because the dogs are there for the taking.................

this, if there was nothing else to take out of this game, Armfield's response, to his @#$%&! up (and basically that is what it was) was simply superb.

rather than go into a shell and sulk like many would, he still took the game on, still had the run, still had the determination.

it was a superb response and lets you know he will be a long time player for the club.

well done armfield i thought your response was fantastic!!

Very disappointing but it almost felt inevitable with all of our missed chances. Waite and Judd missed two relatively simple goals apiece while we were in the ascendancy, Walker played well but missed two gettable goals, Henderson dropped marks, Simpson hit the post etc. We had them on toast but couldn't finish them off.

I think our best footy is better than Sydney's best but we aren't as consistent within games and haven't been as consistent over the season as they have been. I also feel that we have greater scope for improvement than they do. Two finals losses by a total of 2 goals shows that we aren't a bad side, but we should have won both and need to learn to take our chances when they present themselves. I think that this will come with time.

Genuinely excited about Lachie Henderson, his work rate is incredible. His marking not so at the minute but that can be worked on over the summer months. If i was Ratts i'd sit him down and tell him he could be as good as Riewoldt, just needs to work doubly hard on his deficiencies and he'll get there.

Judd was absolutely immense in the second half but those 2 goals he missed were very very costly. His skills in front of goal is the only thing stopping him from reaching the levels he had whilst at WC.

We've now lost 2 finals by 12 points combined, that's got to hurt the boys immensely.

Tough way to lose but you were outstanding after the first 10 non-competitive minutes - the tardy start really hurt in the end. There was a prelim waiting for you had you got over the line today - we are cooked.

yep your injuries are killing you

do you think you'll take a step or 2 backwards next year to get game time into some of the kids?

Our match committee and their match day selections are killing us.

We got plenty of games into the kids this year and didn't go backwards - have no idea why we would resort back to the Hahn's, Eagleton's, etc when they have consistently failed us in big games. Playing the kids would have actually been less risky. Wasn't even upset losing last night, such was the absolute certainty of knowing what would happen last night actually happening. Ambivalence and resignation is far worse than the heartbreak and pride I had after the 09 prelim. What I wouldn't give to have a jet, who has skill but actually understands the importane of defensive pressure, like Garlett in our forward 50 instead of the clydesdales we have trotting around aimlessly in there at the moment. Apologies for hijacking a Carlton thread.

After 44 hitouts, I don't think anyone could offer us what sauce is worth. I'll chuck bricks through the front window of PP if they trade him :donk: .

For me it's a real dilemma... still have a few holes to plug in our structure yet we've got a surplus of rucks on our list... makes sense to trade one of them to get a decent pick or player... so is it Sauce or Hammer? tough choice as there's pros and cons for both... a choice made even tougher by Jacob's impressive performance today.

But I'm with you on keeping them all unless we get offered 'overs' in a trade... which isn't that unlikely given the trade value history of ruckmen.

no apologies needed Sedat - you've always been a great read. Hope it turns around for you and I hope the kids are given a go. Good luck need week!

I have been swung over by Jacobs - thought he was great today though I thought he started slowly and things didn't start to move for us until Warnock came on.

I hope we play the Warnock/Jacobs duo and see what can be done with Hammer and Kruise - can he play as a ruck rover? As a wingman? As a Forward?

Can we play 3 of them in the 1 side? Mind you the crash and bash means 1 might often be injured.

Mixed feelings, still absolutely devastated however so proud at the same time. The boys had a fair dinkum crack and for a good while there we were beating Sydney at their own game. We've never even come close to doing that in the past let alone in a cut throat final, interstate.

I'll be honest, I feared we would get blown away at the half. Thought we'd wasted our chances with those two late goals to them in the second.

If only we took those chances late in the third and early in the last. If only...

Unfortunately the way it's panned out, we just gifted a prelim to the Swans. Makes the devastation reach all sorts of new levels     :banghead:

First time I've seen Hendo play live and I must admit I was blown away by how hard he works for such a big bloke... can never question his workrate and his commitment

Will be a very very good player in a couple of years!

Agreed, Army rocks, and, tbh we need his run, carry and dare.

He's gonna have a few stuff ups every now and then. But better to make a mistake trying to make something happen, rather than stuffing up by being too negative.

Look I like Army as much as most - but he had 1 touch up until 3/4 time he was quiet and beaten

the thing that annoyed me most about the holding the ball decision (which any person who has ever watched a games could not dispute) - It took until the 25th minute mark of the last quarter for the umps to finnally pay one

If you attempt to bounce and get held you get pinged which is fair enough but most players now when they are about to get grabbed just drop it and get away with it - Swans got 3 goals today when players just blatantly drop the ball and dont get pinged - Gary Ablett started this craze and now it has caught on

Go back to the first quarter and watch Goodes just drop it which resulted in a goal

Not only did he drop it, he actually got a free for a 'hold'. Ridiculous. I also think the free against Bower in the first quarter for a hold was harsh - players can't be expected to let go of a tackle the very moment the player gets rid of the ball, there has to be a split second's leeway.
After quarter time they were ok but the umps in the first quarter were not kind to us.

With Judds last attempt on goal, am I correct in saying that when he gathered the ball he was trying to run straight at goal but the fckn yellow maggot was in his way which forced Judd to go around him. The maggot kept running backwards and to the side of the goals forcing Judd wider still. Judd finally got around him and turned on the after burners, but he ended up shooting from about 20 deg worse of than he should have and not completely straight..

Still should have kicked it, but flower me.

Dear Paul Roos, Brett Kirk, Adam Goodes, Rhyce ugliest man in football Shaw, et al: GO AND GET [REDACTED] YOU SMUG SMIRKING PRICKS

Sydney didn't win the game today - we lost it. and why do we always let some random spud have a day out on us? Dennis-Lane, WHO? Lindsay Thomas anyone? @#$%&!.

Goodes free kick & goal in the 1st was right in front of the Blues end, let's just say the air matched the colour of our jumpers. Pathetic but predictable umpiring decision really. Cannot fathom how Judd being spear tackled was not a free, and Robbo's massive tackle on random Swans player was not holding the ball. Even Bwuce thought we were stiff on that one.

Can't blame anyone in particular for losing the game today. In the first 10 minutes of the last the game was ours to be won or lost and we lost it. We had many chances from many players, both direct and indirect and we stuffed it up. 3AW kept bleating on about Judd's miss. FFS, how many other misses were there before his. Hendo would have had to kick from around 50m+ with that shot very late in the game - can't get stuck into him for passing off to Jeffy streaming through IMO.

Doesn't make it any less gutting though

Good vocal support from the small number of Blues fans up there. And Swans supporters, seriously. Learn the @#$%&! rules.

shattered :(

Buttttt so many positives to come out of 2010.

We dont need Fev. what a trade. Hendo is 20. how good can this kid get! i have great hopes. Lucas looks like a gem as well

Garlett: +-40 Goals in his 2nd season!! OMFG he's been the barometer.

Murph: opposition supporters rate him as our best. they dont rate gibbs which is fair enough. But gibbs is something special and hopefully his rightful role in the team is found.

Simmo: B&F winner 2010

Yarran: showed glimpses of what is to come. another pre-season here we come

Jacobs: Dont just handball without looking. u do it all the frickcen time!! including in the bullants. played pretty well against mummy

206: loved it when u went fwrd. rotate with kruise. wow

Jamo/Bower out of form. but we know what their best can do

Davies/Ellard/Robbo. Showed some heart. Too many players over the last 8 years have worn the navy blue and not given a f$$$. These boys care and deserved a go.

JR/Armer: love their run and attacking game style.

Walker: sooo much potential. Hope to keep u, but if there's a good enough trade then ......

Juddsta. that 3rd qtr was quite incredible. if only u kicked that goal it would ahve gone down in football folklore. :(

Eddie: u kick the goal before u mark the ball. need to focus on your marking. on the sticky hands.

Scotland: one of those seniors we need.

Carrots: dont think we should have played u today. in our best 22 but not today.

Ratts: i've been critical and supportive. sometimes you have made blatant rookie errors. i think you're def a boundary coach. u need some of the coaching duties taken off your shoulders and then you can see so much more. You've got my support for 2011.

apologies to other players....i`ll get to them eventually

2010 in most ppls eyes ...we over achieved. no-one gave us a hope in hell. most of us said we'll be around the 8 mark. but we were awful in stages and were 1 win from finishing 5th!! imagine what consistency will do. next year our younger players will be better! the depth will be better. we have a few potatoes to delist but the core 18 players of 2010 will be there next year and ready for battle.

oh and we BEAT the SAINTS AND THE SCUM!!!

Yes, myself and the Carlton bay I was sitting in went mental when that happened.

There were a few howlers like that today too.

C'est la vie, we were good enough to create the opportunities so that the end result was in our hands. We missed too many easy shots on goal and fluffed too many crucial F50 marks.
