The reason for this post is to get some real perspective back.

I'm as passionate about the Blues as the next guy. Got my flights and tickets all booked for this weekend up to Sydney and hoping like hell to see a win so we get the chance to see a home final next week in Melb.

There has been plenty of posts of late (which i too have made comments on) about possible player movements and trades, recruiting, sacking coaches etc. We don't tolerate a lack of success all too well (and nor should we) but sometimes it pays to just take a breather and have a look at the big picture....

Back in Nov 2002 when the club was penalised by the AFL for cap breaches the club took a massive financial and on-field hit. I remember a comment made by Gerald Healy at the time that it would take the Blues 10 years to recover and once again become a premiership contender. At the time this '10 year' notion sounded ridiculous. But wind the clock forward 8 years and now.....perhaps Healy was not too far from the truth. 2012-2013 is realistically looking like our best window of opportunity.

We had club legends like Sticks, SOS, Braddles, Ratts, Madden and co. all leave in a relatively short period of time. The club was always going to find it tough to pick up the pieces in a short period of time and recover to play our best footy.

Changes at board level, changes in home ground, changes in coach etc

Loss of draft picks and concessions etc.

Our list is looking much stronger but we still have some deficiencies.

All in all I think our club has recovered but its important to put all things into perspective before worrying too much about trades, player movements etc. one or two extra players will help fill certain roles but its the overall team 'ethos' that will win us a flag.

We are doing well and will continue to do well. Our finances are fine. Our on-field performances will soon be on a par.

Win this week against Sydney and we take one more significant step forward.

As you said, although there are spots that need to be filled, bits and pieces throughout our club, onfield and off that still need to be fixed... how about we work on making the club we have now and even better club with what we already have and fill the spots as we go.
We are a great club and will be the greatest again sooner than most people think.
