Out of left field.

Set Walker the challenge. Can you tackle? Well if you think you can, Adam Goodes is your man today, show me the tackle!

Yes I'm serious too. Walker matches him for speed, agility, running ability, aerially and most importantly frees up Gibbs. Set him the challenge, if it comes off we win and Ratts is a genius. If it fails at least he has tactically tried something out of left field.

He failed on Rich for a quarter, time for redemption.

Walker is a very good match up for Goodes physically.

Technically? Not so good.

Yarran has a huge future ahead of him but he shouldn't be running around in blue. He played for the Bullants 2 weeks ago and his effort and resultant performance was very lacklustre. Promoting him smacked of desperation and sent mixed messages to Chris AND the other players.
IMO, it was a poor decision by the MC that disregarded long term development. Players need to understand that opportunity comes from showing character when you're sent back and not cruising around and displaying minimal intensity. Hopefully Chris has the maturity and internal motivation to take advantage of a fortunate situation.

They're playing at ANZ Stadium - big ground.

It isn't, but it is longer than the SCG.

ANZ Stadium - 160x118
SCG - 151.5x136
MCG -160x141
ES - 159.5x128.8
Subi - 175x122

It's the same length as the MCG and only fractionally longer than ES, but it is narrower than ES and a lot narrower than the MCG. It's area is therefore substantially less than those 2 grounds.

In proportions, it's much more like a substantially smaller version of Subi. That means playing at Subi last week was a reasonable preparation for this week. By contrast, the SCG is basically round and much shorter than the MCG, and that leads to visitors getting lost on the wings and CHFs being rendered largely redundant.

Agree, Yarran and Walker both give similar run and carry (alot) and defensive pressure (ie not much) but at least Walker has been showing good form in the Ants, Yarran has been average over the last month at both levels.

Bollocks.........
Yarran was injured 2 weeks ago ! Yarran can tackle - Walker cannot. Yarran only needs 10 possies to hurt the opposition - Walker averages 20 odd this year and doesn't hurt anyone in fact he turns it over so often he hurts us !

You must have missed Yarran's goal assists last week i'm tipping.
I know who i'd rather have on Sunday in our forward line and around the ball and thats Yarran.
Walker is a liability

Great post Deano. Dumb decision by the MC

I see with utter dread that once again we have to endure Steve McBurney's interpretation of the rules. My confidence levels have just dropped.

If Walker goes anywhere near Goodes, we'll be pantsed.

We're already up against it in the clearances with McVeigh, Bolton, Kirk and Jack playing a substantially harder game than our blokes. Why on earth you would want to introduce a physical weakling into that scenario, I don't know.

Judd ------ McVeigh
Murphy --- Jack
Gibbs ----- Hannebery
Simpson -- Bolton
Scotland - Kirk
Joseph --- O'Keeffe
Walker --- Goodes  :screwy:

The way the Swans are dominating the contested footy, it's staggering that Walker would be considered for a stopping role.

Increases the pressure on every kick that comes from a defensive flank back into the middle.... We'll need a massive workrate from Gibbs to get on the end of handballs from Russell, Armfield, Walker and Joseph. Better that than putting it on their boot.

Gibbs will enhance his name in the final tomorrow. He will lift.
Our best is better than Sydney's. The probability that they play their best is higher than ours.

That's pretty much the equation. It's up to us - if we brong our A Game & concentrate for four quarters, they will not beat us.

And, the ground length suits us if we can engineer the kick over the top into the forward line.

Regardless of who plays I hope our forwards are prepared to work for once - What I mean is when the defenders look up after breaking the line they have people moving for them - we win the ball well in defence and are starting to link but we seem to have a very stagnant forward line - People here are quick to criticise walks but overall his disposal this year is not much differnt to Judds (his disposal has been ordinary) - Would love to see the match comittee rotate Walker and Waite through the HF and HB line - Anyone remember Walkers game against the Lions at the Gabba two years ago? He was more than a handfull accross the HF line and was a great foil for Fev.

We have two players who are physically imposing and hard to match up on - rather than worry about the opposition Id love to see us attack - What have we got to lose.

Anyway @#$%&! the Swans.
