Look ... if Thornton could not get back into this side after being such a standout with the Bullants ... its over. Don't forget 5 players have been added for the Swans match ... and he was not one of them.

Thank you Brett for those years that you tried so hard for the club when we were down and out. Wish you well for the future.

+1

+1

mmm..a part of me thinks we should have had Thornton instead of Davies..because possibly he would have ap oint to prove..and has experience.
However..I' sure the MC consider all these things when picking the team, and do not think they would let personal issues get in the way when a final is at stake.

here is my +1 for the dark years when Brett played many great games, and I really feel for the bloke, despite having been sooo frustrated with his work this year.

A full grown bull then?

Yeah, what he has is a real cow of a thing to fix too.

Looks like it might be a while before he is out on the paddock again

Sinister as in I dont really know what Im talking about and have a been in my bonnett about Thornton so I'm just going to throw this one up coz I think it helps my cause.

Sinister as in fractured leg !!

BTW I do have a bee in my bonet about Thornton because he should be selected ahead of Jamo & Davies. Davies is young and shows some potential but is out of his depth at the moment (refer last week's game when Hendo had to be sent to defence in the last quarter in place of Davies).

Jamo in particularly offers nothing apart from trying to stop his opponent. Defenders in the modern game must take risks and play off their opponents when the time is right, something that Thornton does better than any of our current tall defenders.

A calf is better than a goat....even if it is only one goat.

As for T/Bird, I feel sorry for the bloke but claiming he is preferable to Jamo is ridiculous. Yes Jamison is poor in his offensive skills but a full backs job primarily is to stop his man. Jamo is substantially better at stopping key forwards than Thornton which is a tick in my book. Even dopey Matthew Lloyd rates Jamison as one of the best spoilers in the AFL.
It's easier to surround Jamison will attacking players and aqllow him to play to his strengths.

My preference would be to play Thornton, Bower & Jamieson together as I believe they do bring diverse strengths to our defence. Anyway I'll be there regardless on Sunday and I hope to see us come away with a win.

I'm told that Carrots will play unless he has a major mishap in the last training session tomorrow morning at ANZ.

He hasn't been able to get out of first gear all week on the track. Doesn't matter what level it is - you take injured players into a final - you're asking for trouble.

I was told by someone who would actually know that Grigg was injured in the game prior and they were hopeful he would get up for it but obviously hasn't. So on that I would say it's nothing to bad?

Carrazzo was still every chance of playing as of last night but won't play unless there absolutely sure he is good enough to get through the game.

Last year we often played with 4 defensive talls.

Recently we've been playing with only 2.

I reckon 3 is the best set up, if you've got the right players. Because it makes it a lot easier to defend marking targets inside 50, with at least one defender sagging off to intercept as 3rd man in.

I think Thornton is a bit stiff. But if he's not in, I'm glad they've brought Walker back into the side. He has the flexibility of being able to play tall. Hopefully Davies will be able to play that role in the future. But I don't think he's capable of that yet.

Same here. Despite Jacobs' strong VFL form, I was surprised the MC dropped Hammer for him. But in a game where there's likely to be a high number of stoppages, Sauce might be a better option. Also, Sauce pushed forward last week for the Bullants and was catching it with plenty of confidence. Could the MC throw another curve-ball and drop Warnock and play an extra running player? (I doubt it, but the final team will be interesting...).

And I nearly fell off my chair when I saw Browne's name in the squad (ahead of, say, Johnson, T-Bird or even Brock). Perhaps Browne's papers aren't stamped yet after all...

Reckon that might be a porky about the calf. The show pony is really just playing chicken. Everyone knows he's mutton dressed up as lamb.

We need to stop Sth from clogging up the ball. If we can keep the ball movement fast and spread Sth we have a good chance. Will need a blinder from the smalls.

Carlton by 12pts

I'd say Yarran back in if Carrots doesn't come up.
