well after 22 rounds how does performance of the 2010 blues compare to that of the 2009 fev flavoured blues

i don't have a lot of stats with me - hoping other contribute but I will start with the obvious

2010 - 11 wins
2009 - 13 wins

suggests we were better last year but I think the competition was tougher this year and we had a real lapse in concentration this year where as last year I think we were more consistent.

i still think we are better team than last year though

We are about the same, except with more upside

Oldest players gone - Fev, Stevo,

Older players reduced importance - Houlihan, Scotland (looked on last legs on Friday)

Youth developing - Hendo, Lucas, Davies, Warnock, Garlett, Yarran, Robinson

Yep but i actually hope Hoops isnt finished.

In the forwardline we have the talls in Henderson and Waite, smalls in Betts and Garlett but atm we're missing those mid-sized forwards ala Stevie J and i see Hoops as that forward who is dangerous and knows how to kick goals and take a mark. Although going down the youth path Yarran and Robinson could take his place as that forward.

Don't forget White and Sauce, plus in the VFL - Tuohy and Dare

This year is a better year because 1. We were forced to start again and learn how to play as a team again. 2. We found new positions that worked well for certain players (E.G. Hoops at HF). 3. We have shown that we have a talented list to go forward with, who are only going to get stronger and more talented (E.G. Hendo).
To tell you the truth, I am much more excited about our future than I am about us playing in an elimination final on Sunday.

What for the first time all year!!??
He has been amongst our most consistent players this year... I think he can be let off the hook for being tired in round 22.

No there can be no let off - He has covered his lack of pace well at times.

This is the start of the end, we need to beat the Swans and get him to 200 then show him the door.

We need to start to become the hard arse team that we used to be.

Players like Wayne Johnston, Ken Sheldon, Rod Ashman, Jim Buckley, Wayne Harmes were all pushed out when their time was up.

We went soft in the 90s and kept players past their prime, Lucas and Davies need to play all 22 games next year.

Scotland and Houlihan should be told to leave or understand that Red is their best colour.

I hate to say it but that is what Collingwood has done.

I am a Hoops critic and I will be the first to say that despite his end of season injury, he deserves another year, he has been sensational in our forward line, with his precise delivery into our forward line, him and Hendo will do a lot of damage next year.
As for Scotland... there can be no let offs hmm??
So does that mean Carrots, Gibbs, Walker, Eddie, Yazz, AJ... (I could go on) should all be shown the door?? Because I can tell you right now Scotland has had a more consistent season than all of them. Despite the age difference, no player should be 'shown the door' if they are still having a positive impact on the field. UNLESS a decent trade can be taken from it and I don't see that happening.
Best and Fairest this year will be between Simmo, Juddy and Scotland with Murphy a roughie.

..listen, they can stay on the list and not take away games from kids if you wanna 'push' games into the kids.. ..we don't have the depth to cut players that still have seniors left in them.. ..but we're not in full blown development mode either, so kids will get games when they will play better than those in ahead of them.. ..won't get games just cos young..

Big positives for 2010 are:

No more reliance on Fev. We were never going to win a flag with him and we've taken the first step in learning how to play without him.
Hendo and Lucas. Both look the goods. Both have 10+ years to offer. Fev has 2ish. The whole trade is just looking peachy. Cheers Vossy.
Garlett.
Jacobs.
Warnocks last month or so.
Waite coming back well from the knee injury.
Griggs last month or so.
Simpson + Murphy very consistent A grade mids.
Beating Geelong and especially StKilda.
Playing finals footy for the second year in a row, and without Fev

I do believe Tony Notte will be getting delisted at seasons end. He is the player West Coast picked up with pick 20 which they got from us in the Judd trade. Bad luck for the young man and i understand that if he came to us things could be different or we may have chosen another player with that pick but...just thought its worth mentioning. With Masten struggling, the trade looks like a real win to us. In the Fev trade, Fev is struggling with injury and hardly playing. Same goes for Callum Bartlett (pick 27). With Hendo and Lucas looks like another big win.

Agree with Big Kahuna Boot on this one .
There is no way our list is good enough to start cutting players like Houlihan and Scotland . No way in the world .

Yes it is. Maybe not Scotland though. It gives a chance for someone to step up.

Rewoldt is a much better player now that Richo is gone

Just on Scotland he had a shocker on Friday night until moved forward. He was a big part of why our last quarter was so good. Some players have shockers and you get nothing out of them for the whole game. To Scotland's credit he turned it around when moved forward.

Never more than 2 wins in a row this season, never more than 2 losses in a row.

Carlton = consistently inconsistent

One more year for Hoops then review.
Scotto has fallen off, but was fantastic earlier in the season.
One more year for him to help a young team.

I think Johnson and wiggins will go, and Anderson must be going too if we take 3 picks.

Surely Fisher has to go? And I would assume at best we would try to rookie Caleb Tiller

But we do need to promote Jeffrey do we not?

2010 was always going to be a bit of a transition year adjusting to life post-Fev.

We made the finals, albeit just, which @#$%&! all people expected (And to any media commentator who said that Essendon* would be better than Carlton this year SUFFER IN YA JOCKS)

We developed a lot of young players. Waite made a good return from injury and it was unfortunate he missed 4 games through suspension.

Losing Krueze was shit, but Warnock, Sauce and Hammer have all done well in his absence. Injury wise we didn't do too badly although Hoops and Bower suffered.

We also finally beat the Saints and the Scum.

Correct. No teams tanking this year.

Pretty good effort after the loss of Fev. I thought we'd fall back a few spots this year.
