Yes, we would also like to win the lottery, but a quality tall at CHB would sort out most of our on field problems. Jamo stays at FB and now Bower can take the 3rd tall- it all filters down taking some pressure off each defender. With a combo of Russell, Army Joseph, Davies/Walker/overpaid recruit who we mistakenly think can kick under pressure because he looks good in training, we not only look stronger but also possess greater flexibility-we can now stick gibbs wherever we want on the field and use him as a really attacking weapon, and when the it suits we can still play him off HB rather than doing it every week. Use paragraphs.

I think White can help in that regard. Not in the sense that he'd be a "gun", but rather a servicable player who could perform a role alongside Bower and Jamison.

Talia might've been a handy pick up in the draft last year as might've Matt Maguire as a short termer as one developed..

Waite.

I know he's great up forward, but he's just so valuable down back.

Depending on how setanta / fisher play this week, I'd be looking to bring in another tall and throw Waite down back.

Our "speed" attack plan will only get us so far. Effective - yes, but we need talks up home too.

We need Waite forward. Setanta and Fisher are not and will never be the answers. We need to accept that, get real and move on.

Mark Austin anyone? Hasn't done much for a while, but he has shown some real signs in his time at the club.

I think he has battled some injuries this year? Anyway he is one that I would be looking to for a big pre season and to hopefully make that position his next year.
He is about the right age for a KPP to start making his mark.

He's definitely the one with the right size Jake. Just needs to stay on the park, and hopefully develop.

Carlton had 32 clearances for the match. Aaron Sandilands had 13!

We need a quality inside mid and the ball wont leave our backs exposed one on one. look at the facts. Freo had 59 inside 50s compared to our 44 and we lost by a goal. The finger pointing at our backs since the game is over the top.
Forget the reactive responses. Stop the ball waltzing away from the stoppages and it will result in more wins than chasing a CHB will achieve.

We have a quality inside mid. Gibbs is the second best clearance player we have besides Judd. I understand that argument for playing Gibbs across half back, but if we could get him into the middle, it would also help release Judd to a more outside role.

Jack Anthony. Only 22, 192/92.

Watched him closely yesterday, he's a very handy defender.

Readymade player but is he big enough for the gorillas - Brown, Cloke, etc? And would the woods deal with us?

Betts to Wet Toast for pick 4
Pick 4 to Port for Chaplin
Offer Chaplin $600,000 on four yr contract.

I want a flag and there be no flag until the backline is hardened up.

Make it happen. :smoking:

Grigg, Hadley & McLean are our inside mids. Carrazzo should be in there too with his strength, but sorry to say they all have their achilles heal and it seems to me we need to improve in this area.

I think Austin will make CHB his position next year if he can get his body right.

Lets not make too many excuses for Jamo and Bower BV. Holding your opponent in front of the teeth of goaqls is a regular habit for Jamo in particular, and Bower also gives away soft frees too. Three reasons for that imo:

1. Haven't got the size to hold power forwards
2. Lost form and not playing their best
3. Loss of coinfidence.

Yes, I'm pointing the finger at these 2 blokes, because I have said consistently for a couple of months now that Jamo has gone backwards this year, and is sadly out of form, and we have no replacement for him with Thornton out of favour, Austin injured, White, selected as insurance in case Jamo falls to injury again, is injured...dejavu 2009.....whilst Bower has had a hugely interupted year after a very promising preseason.

Sure statistics which show 15 extra forward entries can suggest that our backline was overcome solely by the weight of numbers and therefore the sole reason why we lost. Lets not divert our attention from other glaring issues. Giving away soft free kicks and soft goals in a 50-50 contest in front of goal and then we lose by a goal is a different issue altogether imo.

I don't always care how many times the ball enters the opposition's forward entry because sometimes those statistics don't show that half of those forward entries may have reached the 49 meter mark on the boundary line and were rubbish entries (refer to Carlton's slump in the last 6 weeks). What I do care about is what our backmen do, time and time again when the ball is kicked to them and their opponent in a 50-50 situation in front of goal.

There's no statistical excuse imo that covers up weak defensive tactics, strategy and a lack of form.

Would WT be silly enough to offer up pick 4 for a hot and cold small crumbing forward like Eddie? Worth a try. We got away with the Fev deal.

But $600,000 for Chaplin? Don't you think guys like Murphy and Gibbs might be a touch peeved?

No doubt our No.1 priority is a tall strong key defender but they don't grow on trees.

If we can get one fantastic but we need to be prepared to give away some talent. Guys like Walker, Jacobs, Hampson, Thornton are all options as they may have some value.

If we can't we may have to look at a guy like Brad Miller IF we can get him for nothing. He can play on guys like Pavlich, Hall, Hawkins, kossie etc.

We also need to look internally and get some better results from what we already have. Guys like Austin and Setamta are real options as key defenders and need good pre seasons building up some size and getting themselves fit. Hendo is the other option and would be a very good CHB but is too valuable up forward. The development and fitness of guys like Casboult and Kruezer may assist in the this area. We also need some bigger bodies in defense and around the ball. Ellard I believe is our answer in the BP and I am excited by the prospect of Touhy and O'Keefe standing up next year.

Just imagine if the guys we have can stand up in 2011'

B: Ellard Setanta White
HB: Yarran Austin O'Keefe
C: Lucas Gibbs Simpson
HF: Garlett Henderson Walker
F: Betts Waite Kruezer
Foll: Warnock Judd Murphy
Int: Casboult Carrazzo Armfield Grigg

This doesn't include Jamo, Bower, Anderson, Hadley, McLean, Hampson, Jacobs, Kerr, AJ, Davies, Russell, Houlihan, Scotland, who will all be looking to push for a spot.

Some size in defense both with height and body size and are also good users of the ball. A good solid midfield and an adaptable forward line with heaps of options.

Add to that any new recruits during trade week and the national draft plus young Buckley.

Ummm no...
Pretty sure the first post was tongue in cheek.
At least I hope so, because we wouldn't get a top 20 pick for Eddie let alone pick 4. LOL

Never mind that ... why would anyone in their right mind offer Pick #4 for Chaplin ... and then 600 k per season?

Ummmm no

http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/artic ... new-rioli/

Quote:
Hawthorn sensation Cyril Riloi, Fremantle’s pocket-rocket Hayden Ballantyne or Collingwood veteran and reigning all-Australian small forward Leon Davis, are the type of player Worsfold wants.

Quote:
Worsfold did not rule out trading his first pick at number four overall if West Coast finishes last in 2010.

“You’d give up pick four if you get someone in that is the equivalent. That happens all the time,” he said.

I know you're trying to act smat and all that.

Whether Betts is worth pick 4 - only Worsfold knows that.
