thornton will never play for the blues again as he is gold coast bound.
it has nothing to do with form, it has to do with the blues finding out that he has signed with the suns.
thanks for your services t-bird.

Agree Springer .No coincidence that Bowser and Jammo have dropped off in TBird's absence.Despite his faults,he's steady. There is no cadence between our backmen at the moment and they badly need to knit and gell.TBird would be the glue............and our backline were ok last night. They were victims of complete lack of forward pressure. Our forwards were putrid last night, hence the backline looking bad.

Unfortunately Springsteen,
Thornton was not born to run. :smoking:

but he has a hungry heart for some success

if he comes out with a jonathon brown mask and plays like him it'll be a brilliant disguise

I think all the trouble started when all he got for his 19th birthday, was a union card and a wedding coat.
and as for Mary...

contracted next year with the blues(according the player contracts thread) so one of the thread or you are wrong. Unless a trade has been agreed already.

Bullants report to halftime. Still chipping kicks sideways, hand balling to a stationary player when in trouble and failed to go hard in a couple of contests. Typical T-Bird game.

This rumour was around a couple of months ago. Ratten was on radio around this time and was directly asked if the reason Thornton was not getting a game was because he had signed with CG17, the answer Ratten gave was no it wasnt the reason and Thornton was CONTRACTED for next year so it couldnt be true.
Thornton has a contract for next year so he has NOT signed with CG17.

Why can't he change his game style?
It's a shame really because he has some good qualities.

He has played very well and probably deserves a spot, but with Ratts watching in the crowd I'm wondering if Ratts might not like some of things mentioned in my last post. Interesting selection ahead.

yep..he does seem a little bitter..or at least very frustrated at the situation.
I thought Ratts saud Carrots would be good to go...
but maybe outs would be Hampson, Davies and ?
Ins maybe Sauce and Thornton....
Walker, Hadley and Maclean also there....so who know what will happen,
Its a shame we don't have Houla for the final/s.

yes, after watching bullants today, i'd bring in walker and thornton. probably for davies and carrazzo. but if carrazzo is right, i might think about walker for robinson...

and i'd play walker midfield or wing. thornton back.
thought sauce was very good in bullants but still prefer hampson.

and i really like the look of touhy for next year...

Went to the game today. Ratten, Gibbs, Hampson, Jamo & Russell were sitting in the stand behind us.

Thornton was oustanding today and if the coach is fair dinkum he will swallow his pride and do what is best for this side. Jamo & Bower do not possess any of the qualities that Thornton brings to that defence (poise, marking ability, good decision making and excellent kicking efficiency).

I know that Davies has shown some good qualities but he has shown that he is not at the required level yet. Last night they had to send Henderson to defence in the last quarter which is not ideal.

I would also like to see Sauce come in for Hammer.

I know for a fact that T-Bird has not signed for the GC and that he definitely has 1 year to go on his contract. Unfortunately the coach has blacklisted him and regardless of his form he will not be played. This will be proved at the selection table this week.

He is a terrific fellow and is very dedicated to his footy, which at times is reflected by his demeanor on the field when things don't go to plan. Let's not forget the absolute lack of support he has had since his career started, playing in that backline.

He is well respected by his team mates and the view that many people have on this forum of him is not shared by those who know him.

yes..that really came across today.
do you know why Ratts would want to blacklist him?
or is it just a matter of form?

I thought he had a good game. It wasn't outstanding and he made some blunders as well. But I think a player of his experience should have good games every time he plays across half-back in the VFL. Keeping Anthony 'fatboy' Corrie in check isn't much to write home about though. But as it does every week - it'll come down to team balance, matchups and good form. With Carrazzo a definite out, I would have thought we'd replace like for like.

Tbird played on nobody today so let's not get carried away with his good form.

The only decent big forward the wobbles had (Anthony) spent the entire game in defense whilst Medhurst was minded by Anderson.

Still, Bower's uselessness atm might force the mc to have a good look at Thornton.

I'll be filthy if the drop Davies for him.

No.

Counter-productive to go back to Thornton as his static and sideways style of play isn't conducive to the fast rebounding football that the AFL has become. We need to persist with players who push forward and are proactive and we must keep getting games and experience into Davies Russell Jamison Bower etc and keep building for next year where we can hopefully add O'Keefe Tuohy and Lucas into the defensive mix.

Thornton is a good and effective player at the VFL level and will help the bullants push for a flag.
