Disappointing loss but you've got to admire the fightback especially being one player short for pretty much all game. Definitely need a bigger bodied player in the middle. You have to admire Ellard's tackles on Pavlich in the centre. Anyway it appears that Sydney will most likely be our next stop. On the bright side we're working our way down Australia's East Coast. Next year we'll play our first final in Melbourne.

Three reasons we lost tonight.
1- Couldn't hold a tackle to save themselves, when players from Hill, Morabito, Walters to Johnson, Sandi & Pav are allshruggin us off theres something wrong.

2- Clearance work, always were left on the opposite side of the pack. leavin them to run off in numbers.

3- Hate to single out one bloke but P.Bower was shockin and has been for weeks. When we lost the 3-4 quick goals in the third i think he was the bloke gettin beat EVERY time. Too often gets pushed aside, out positioned and out marked notto mention the tackles broken and frees he gives away. If thornton plays well bring him in. Jamo similar, he was VERY lucky not to give away like 10 frees.

Also Davies is a passenger at present, cant afford to carry him.

It was a sledge at Ch 7 in general :) Their coverage is always @#$%&! woeful and I lost count of the times I saw that smug flog Harvey's face or some player having a drink instead of what was actually going on with the game.

Everyone tried hard, intensity was good for most of it.

They were better than us and controlled the game for most part.

We need to take a leaf out of their book and not be too scared of turning the list over and using later picks.

Spot on Missnaut. Disgraceful coverage. Bruce at 3/4 time, "well Freo have secured a home Final".
Commetti discussing head high contact to Bower "well it doesn`t matter although it may to him". These amongst countless other biased calls. Why did they feel the need to talk up Freo so much? Like every Freo goal was that much more exciting.

Player/Coach review:

Ratten: You should not be coaching next year you are a disgrace and have no idea what you are doing. Stop destroying the limited talent we have at the club.

M.Davies: Should not play in the final. Clearly not up to scratch and should NEVER have been selected by our useless coach.

M.Jamison: What the hell is this guy's problem. He craps his dacks and grabs his direct opponent CLEARLY infringing. Your typical Carlton moron

A.Joseph: Tried hard all day in the packs, which is more than I can say for 9/10 of the players. Still, not AFL standard.

D.Armfield: One of our best runners. Battled hard all day, but is defensively not up to standard.

P.Bower: This guy is the worst in our side. He has absolutely no idea what to do when the ball is in the air. Absolute lemon of a player and should be traded for whatever we can get for him.

J.Russell: Athletic, but like Jamison has serious brain fades where he clearly infringes. Lucky not to have more free kicks paid against him.

K.Simpson: An absolute gem of a player and should clearly win our B&F hands down. Tonight he was our ONLY A class midfielder. Murphy was a B+

C.Judd: This poor guy has fought hard all season, but with selfish players who do not protect him... what chance does he have. One of his worst games for the CFC. Playing injured?

S.Grigg: Will be a good player, but clearly not up to AFL standard quite yet. But at least the kid has a dip unlike most of our players.

C.Yarran: Show pony who needs to learn how to get a hard ball. It's all good and well to do 2-3 amazing flashy things in a game, but when you don't put the runs on the board you are a waste of space.

J.Waite: Top marks for this bloke. Genuine trier and would bleed for the Navy Blue.

A.Carrazzo: Probably did the team a favour by getting injured. This guy has terrible disposal and is a serious liability... played a bad game today

J.Garlett: Best of the small forwards by a country mile. But still goes missing like the other 2. Still... keep trying Jeffy.

L.Henderson: Hedo is a great find. I had my doubts about him at the start of the season. However, I think he will be fantastic. Now the delivery to him needs to be improved. (Sack the skills coach... Bradley?)

E.Betts: This guy is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!!! Bower is the worst player in our side. But Betts is the biggest disappointment. Showed so much before he signed his contract. We are paying this d*ckhead $1.9M when we need to be retaining players like Grigg.

R.Warnock: Battled hard, but Sandilands was way too good. We kicked to stupid 1 on 1s where Nockers was outbodied. Not his fault.

M.Murphy: Great game, but had little support. The rest of the mids (exception of Simpson) should hang their heads in shame

B.Gibbs: Great game in defense. Only thing holding it together (if it is together). Needs to give Bower and Jamison a kick on the arse cos those 2 are useless

D.Ellard: Not up to it... delist... next

S.Hampson: Trade to Gold Coast for a packet of chips. Did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TONIGHT

M.Robinson: Needs to go back to the little league and learn how to kick the ball and hold a mark. Will be a good player because he has a go. Unlike the rest of the side. However, should still be omitted come next week.

H.Scotland: Did nothing... Delist at end of season. Make room for some youngsters (Lucas)

Summary: Game was an absolute disgrace. When the game was there to be won we folded like Collingwood in September. The margin flattered us. Everyone with the exception of Gibbs, Simpson, Murphy and Waite need to have a good, hard, long look at themselves.

Have met Slyuss at forum footy games. He is a good bloke but i think he is a Dons or Richmond fan from memory so i would take what he posts with a grain of salt.

Very, very disappointing way to finish the H&A.

A few points from being at the game. Haven't watched the replay and have no idea of stats etc:

- We got absolutely murdered at the stoppages, be that centre square or around the ground. Sandilands tore us a new one.

- Perhaps Carlton is the only team that doesn't realise that Sandilands often smashes the ball clear of the congestion towards Hill etc who are floating away from the pack. He would of done that 5 or 6 times tonight and no Carlton player was anywhere near Hill. Time after time. Too many ball watchers who get sucked into the congestion and we get exposed.

- Could not get the ball out of defence for lengthy periods of time. The old kicks in reared their ugly head. We short it to the boundary, the receiver then holds until called to play on and then bombs it up the line to Sandilands. Won't win too many AFL games with that kick in strategy.

- Our delivery into the F50 really leaves a lot to be desired. Even better users such as Murphs and Gibbs make awful mistakes. How many times did we kick grubbers tonight?

- Our key backs (Jamo & Bower) are really struggling. I'm back to being nervous every single time it gets down there. Gave away too many soft/stupid frees down there gifting them goals.

- Thought we got murdered by the umps, especially the first half. Being second to the ball didn't help.

- Carrying too many players who are simply not having an impact, or enough impact on the game. Betts, Hammer, Yarran barely sighted tonight for mine.

- Admired the effort and was cheering hard for the boys. Just terribly frustrating when we continue to play dumb football and let ourselves down.

Looks like a tough trip to Sydney next week. Don't like our chances. They have our measure and are in really good form.

Nah club, he's Carlton. I met him at training for a forum game & he wore a carlton jumper with ratts' number, so there you go.
You may have got his allegiance confused because he had to wear the Dons jumper one day when they were undermanned, or something.
Anyway losing sucks & we all have our way of bitching about it - those of you jumping down Slyuss' throat get over it.

I thought the better side won, & should have by 3-4 goals really. We did well to fight back against a rested side, but through the night we just let them get free too often, plus we let them get far too many easy goals.

Afraid I'm with Heady re the umpiriing...a lot of that shit was our doing. Just stupid stuff, defensive technique needs work.

I thought Simmo was enormous in that last qtr. Busts his ass for the club.

Overall I'm not too pissed off actually - look at the bigger picture people, after the Collingwood loss, a lot of posters myself included, thought we wouldn't win another game for the year. Our form is OK going into the finals & our confidence will be too. We were in shocking form when Coll got us.

And you know what, I'm happier playing Sydney away than Hawthorn at the G. Especially as another poster said, if Mummy is still out. Always sucks to lose but we won't come away from that feeling too down. 9 day break for Sydney. swans will win tomorrow but let's at least hope the Lions rough them up a bit.

Go Blues.

I would Rather Go back to WA and play Freo again knowing that we came within 6 points of them.

Sydney brushed us aside with ease in Melbourne and if we play them in Sydney, they will beat us by 8-9 Goals and with ease.

If we lose our First Final, i would say this was a positive year with very little progress as far as winning Finals but we need to be patient until our Young develop and hopefully we can go forward from there...

The lack of polish with robbo's kicking cost us dearly in the last term I thought. Put simply, when the game is there to be won you DO NOT want the ball in Robbo's hands......yet.

I thought Eddie was awful, that dropped mark in the first started the rot, we would've gone 3 goals up instead they take it up the other end and score, it changed the game, swayed the momentum IMO. I would seriously consider dropping him after the past month or so. If he can't take his opportunities then he's no good to us.

Warnock is seriously terrible overhead, Freo know this and bodied him out of contests when we kicked long to him. He struggles to use his body well in marking contests. He must at least get his hands on the pill when we go long to him otherwise he's useless in that aspect.

I thought Ratts was stupid in letting Hill run free in the second half, it clearly cost us all momentum and the game. He set up both Freo's goals in the last term and repelled two of our attacks. By the time Ratts put someone on halfway through the last the damage was done. Stupid stupid coaching, Hill is arguably the most damaging player on the ground, to let him run amok without a player to run with him was just plain ludicrous!!

Bower tried hard to create, made a few more blunders but I'll back him in. Jamo was OK even though he looks like giving a free away every time it comes his way. I really think we need Thornton back in ASAP but it obviously wont happen.

Now to the positives. All our young guns stood up under pressure I thought, Murphy was huge, Gibbs was brilliant, Grigg relentless, Ellard seriously gets better every game he plays, some of the stuff he did was superb and his kicking was spot on, AJ and Army clearly lifted a cog or two. Yarran and Garlett really played a major part in getting us back in the game. I think most of our boys treated this like a final and will be better for it next week.

All in all, if we come back to Freo I'd rate us as some chance next week. Now to play the waiting game.

Andrew Carrazzo fit to back up

Quote:
CARLTON midfielder Andrew Carrazzo is expected to recover from a hamstring problem in time for the Blues' elimination final next week.

Carrazzo was forced from Subiaco Oval halfway through the first term last night, robbing Carlton of valuable run and rotation.

But Blues coach Brett Ratten was confident after the match that his run-with specialist would be fit to take on the Dockers or Sydney on another road trip next week.

"He was about 80 per cent right, but the question was, 'Was he going to tear it?'," Ratten said.

"Knowing where we sit with finals you can't take the risk. If he does the hamstring it's 21 days and possibly season over. If I was a betting man I'd say he'd be likely to play.

"The doctor indicated we could nearly push him out there if we had to, but we went the no-risk policy."

Good to hear - having someone who's been in the side all year unavailable for a final wouldn't be ideal.

I'm still really aggro about last night

Didnt see the game
If we win a final thats a bonus but we are clearly not good enough.
Youth is a reason as well as many other reasons

A few observations based on what others have posted

Betts needs a big game Becoming the new Leon Davis

Gibbs in defence is a concern. Is becoming the new Travis Johnstone. A waste full stop
The reason. We have dumb footballers in defence whose awawreness and kicking skills are shit

I want Gibbs in the guts and forward of centre creating more scoreboard pressure
Gibbs needs to get some balls and get his hands dirty.
Thomas has shown it can be done at the pies

Same goes with Yarran.
Reckon he would make a good rebound back flanker
Great skills and pace

And we need a big mother in defence.
Bower will always be a third defender
Jamo has gone backwards this year
needs to bulk up again

I would trade Walker if we can get something good particularly a big defender

Still believe its worth trying Hampson there if there is no alternative. Has the physical attributes at least. If not him then O'hAilpin.

I believe we have gone backwards this year. There have been positives though

Gartlett
Henderson
Warnock has finally shown something
Kreuzer will be back
Lucas
White
Ellard

I reckon Ratten needs to delist several players. More than what would be expected
Johnson
Hadley
Fisher
Browne
Thornton
Houlihan
Wiggins
Tiller

On notice
McLean
OKeefe
Austin
Anderson
Carrazzo
Walker
O'hAilpin

White
Ellard
Tuohy
Gartlett
Cachia

I reckon these 5 rookies have earnt promotion

That would mean drafting 4 new players not including possible trades

To me the season is over even though there is still another week at least
Ratten is obviously going to be retained

Big year for him next year

We needed to have the start we did, be able to control the game (tempo) and run out with a three goal win.

We got out alright, then got over run, and had our traditional charge in the last quarter and fell short.

We might get away with it next week if we take them on again, if we get Sydney they will strangle us.

Absolutely spot on. That under 10's mark he dropped absolutely killed us for the game.

We were 7-4 at the half way mark and then went 4-7 in the second half of the season with wins over the bottom teams.
I want to know what happen to the intensity that we played with last night when we played Nth, Sydney, Freo and Dogs, those 4 games have cost us badly now.

The team played well last night, left nothing out there, sure enough our poor disposal, umpires and giving away frees in front of goals always comes back to hurt us.

Bring on next week.
