You've got to be mindful of whose reports you're reading. Some people know what they are looking at, some have blinkers on and some don't have much clue.

Think it was Ratts.

Not sure thats gunna catch on, but I'll watch with interest to see how many other sides do it.

The catching on bit was just a gag referencing another thread.

Loads of posters commented on Griggs poor games in the twos. Some laughed when warnoch got picked ahead of Jacobs due Knockers not showing much in the twos.

So far it looks like the the coaches have timed things pretty well.

Or very poorly.

I don't think it's always about having the best team in each week. It's about developing the players for the long term.
I'd say a lot of the time players are left in the 2's, even when deserving to play in the 1's, to work on something specfic, or to build hunger etc.

If that was the case with Grigg, it's worked pretty well. I'm not so sure Grigga would be playing at the same level he has been without that long stint in the 2s.
Might be wrong, I guess we'll never know.

I'll be the first to admit that 4 weeks ago I was pissed off that warnock was picked before Jacobs..... I've been more than pleasently suprised with warnocks form since his inclusion.

But on a different note:- is anybody else a wee-bit concerned at how much ratts is pumping up geelongs tires?
YES, they're a good team, but instead of saying it's a "daunting" task, why not talk up our chances a bit???
- were the only team to beat them twice in the last 3 years!

I'm not suggesting going out to face the press with a sense of arrogence or cockiness, cause we haven't deserved that yet.

But geez....... Do we need to be so negative?

(or is what I read in the paper and heard on the news edited in a way where any positives that ratts said were taken out?)

He did exactly the same thing the last two times we played them . So based on that I would be doing the same

The Heraldsun is designed so a 7 year old can read it.

Nuff said.

I think Ratts is doing the right thing, reminding the team of the gulf that currently exists between Geelong and ourselves.

Our team, IMO, has gone into several games this year feeling on very good terms with themselves, and played with lousy intensity as a result. Our only chance to get close to, or beat, Geelong is to approach the game with a huge chip on our shoulder and be aggressive and act as the hunter. Anything Ratts can do to instill this mindset is good by me.

The honest truth is that IF we can get the Geelong boys feeling like they don't need to play to 100% to beat us, and IF we can get our boys feeling like they need to play at the mythical 110% to beat them... we're in with a chance.

But both teams playing at the same level of application and intensity... 99 times out of a hundred we won't win.

Not a bad effort if Richard Hadlee can get up for the match really, he is 59 ;)

This is what Ratts said about Geelong

Quote:
"You really admire what Geelong have done in the last three or four years, just dominated the competition and they keep backing up, week in, week out.

Quote:
"It's quite daunting when you look at the form of (Gary) Ablett, (Joel) Selwood, the way he attacks the footy. And those backs, the way they zoned off and supported each other. (Josh) Hunt, the way he's playing. (Darren) Milburn, (Corey) Enright was back to his best.

Quote:
"But you can say to our players, have a look at a Jimmy Bartel, how they go about their football. It's good for our group to challenge themselves against the Cats, who are the best team in the comp in the last four or five years."

This is what the Headline in the Herald Sun says

Brett Ratten in awe of greatest team of all Geelong

Where in those quotes is Ratten in awe of Geelong? Where does he call them the greatest team?

Yeah, I read that. Shame really, Shaun was the one I was hoping would get up

I can confirm for everyone that Andrew Walker is 100 % certain to return to the side this week.

Everyone thinks we're going to get belted by 10 goals anyway, so why would Ratts come out and make ridiculous statements ala Mark Harvey's 'Dangerous' comment when the Dorkers were getting belted weekly last year...
Let the boys go quietly about their business.. We tend to play our best football when there's no expectations on us anyway...

Agreed, we are the massive underdogs this week so there is no need for Ratten to make any comments what so ever.

So when he's doing a press conference pre-game (as all the coaches do) he's supposed to be mute?

I'd imagine the vast majority of supporters want to hear the senior coach comment on the upcoming game.

He ran off Hawkins to perfection earlier in the year and gave us much needed dash off the half back, whether he can replicate this remains to be seen. Would you prefer to leave Davies in against a very solid Geelong outfit?

Sauce for Hammer if doesn't pull up.

Joseph sounds a likely starter, If he isn't 100% fit and he's going to tag Ablett, then I prefer he not play at all.

Yaz for Hadley and throw Eddie into the center bounces? seems to be struggling up forward.

Will Houlihan come back in to shut down Enright again? Did a superb job earlier in the year.

i hope I'm not the only one who thinks we must have Haddles..or, Mc.Lean..because it changes us when we have a serious ball grunter in the team.
I'm neither for, or against YAZ coming in this week.H
He is superb when he's up and about..but not instead of Hadley!
I like the idea of Hoops coming back in, and hope he does..but, the team has been playing well together anyway.
My big fear is that Ratts decides to 'limit damage' instead of hunt the ball.
It's been tried..and never works..so hopefully we've learnt from the past.
It would be great to see how we go now when up against it..not to cave in...and if we are getting beaten...to keep up the tackling and pressure anyway...just to really try and see how good we can be.
i can't shake the feeling we might win...no matter how irrational that feeling is.
Ah well.
