I'm a long time reader and just about a first time poster for a variety of reasons, but i just want to say how much of a pleasure it's been to be reading positive threads such as 'The Importance of Hadley & Ellard'. Yep, we all know they have limitations... but we are being positive about what they can bring to the table. The AFL world is starting to learn the same thanks to Barlows meteoric rise, if a player has a couple outstanding attributes, including a massive will to succeed (Ellard) then we can overlook some shortcomings in other areas. There's great discussion in that thread, analysing strenghts and weaknesses of the players and what they bring to the table.

The thing that frusturates me so much about this forum and our supporters - is how easly we turn. I have been a Carlton fan since the day i was born, and in the last month i've actually considered changing teams because of how feral we all get. We do not have anysort of loyalty to our players, and when things are going bad we actually become ferals. As a group we've been labelled ferals by Fevola (not saying all that much), ruined a young, talented players self-worth and confidence (Russell), absolutely turned on our coach and ended up with players and football department a like saying how they are aware of the way we can turn.

Two comment that stands so true in the Ellard/ Hadley thread are these:

Punter22: "I have been and remain a firm fan of Hadley. I think we play our best football with him in the team. He's not one of our best 22 players, but he's certainly a part of our best team. I hope he stays fit, I think with some continuity he will show his worth."

Woof: "Not sure what there is to gain in bagging any individuals performance after a 12 goal win.
As a collective group what was important was that they showed some spirit and an appetite for a contest. I can put up with players making mistakes providing they have a red hot go at the ball and perform their role for the team, win lose or draw. All the players that have been mentioned in here did what was required.
If you are seeking perfection then maybe an Olympic sport like diving, synchronised swimming or ribbon twirling might be your cup of tea."

So i challenge us a group of supporters to learn something that the AFL community has learnt this past year – players, coaches, presidents and managers will have short-comings but just as Barlow, Jimmy Stynes and the boys down at Melbourne and Carlton showed us last weekend IT IS COMMITMENT AND UNITY that can overcome all those other weaknesses.

So to put it blunty, lets not become ferals when we lose. We are the worst supporters in the league win losing, and when I read all the shit on here in a bad week, passion or not… It’s disgusting, one eyed dumb supporting and it makes me not want to support for us.

I hear what you are saying...and there are some fair points.
However, I don't think we are the worst supporters as bunches go.
Also...most..or many posters here are fiercely loyal, and do put up with a lot.
I reckon it was only after so many bad years..then a glimmer of light...then playing well for a bit..then losing..which was also ok for a bit.
But....its the losing with no effort that people get ferral about..and personally, I can't apologise for getting mad about that.
It's easy to be 'long term' patient when your team MOST weeks put 100% in.
I'm glad they got a kick up the bum, because honestly, they looked like they couldn't care less for a while there.
I'm gladder that they turned it around.
Sure, there are some ferrals..but they are at every team.
I reckon most folks here..and many fans..are truly loyal and great supporters.

To even think about changing teams, then one must ask if you are true Carlton supporter ???????.

Besides, there are ferals (Collingwood supporters), and then there are those who act like ferals (everyone else). Like bluegirl72 mentioned,
you'll find just about every club will have supporters who will act ferals if their team is not doing well, its called venting your anger.

I've seen Carlton supporters do their nanna's and go off their heads, even hurl abuse at our players, but that will never make me want
to change teams.

Carlton through and through, no matter what,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,only the moods will change !!!!!

Go Blues Forever !!!!!!

Good post a lot of our supporters place far too much blame on the players....

We're not. Broke all our membership records when fielding some of the most uncompetitive sides ever.

That comment is just wrong.

I will say this, I read both TC and BF but only ever post here.

Everyone and I mean everyone here ... even the people who I may not agree with seem to be able to carry on with sensible debate without resorting to personal sledging etc.

TC is a ferrari compared to BFs motobike.

Having said that I do not know one supporter here who would not give 5 years off his life for a premiership next year ... and generally I think, at least on this site, there really is not that many if any ferals.

I will go so far as to say that as long as the boys play for the jumper come win or lose we are not feral. When they disrespect the jumper and show zero ticker ... well .... I am sorry but if I was given the chance to play for the mighty Blues I would leave a pint of my blood on the field each and evry flower week.

I remember the Hawthorn game last year .... yeah we were dissapointed but all acknowledged the red hot go .... compare that to the Dawks game this year.

So yeah, we do not expect miricles but we do expect ticker, when we do not get that then I have no problem voicing my concerns.

When I think about last year that loss to Hawthorn and the loss to St Kilda really stand out when you compare them to our losses this year. Sure we played some woeful games last year too (Adelaide, Freo) but we also played some games where despite losing we played with everything we had.

I've learnt we go very quiet after a win.

You already knew that.

Are you going to start up the Geelong pre-match thread or shall I?

I did...and since you've called me out on it, you can have the honour of starting the pre-match thread.

Most of the criticism on here is pretty constructive. I think there is a difference between turning on a coach and highlighting weaknesses. People on here were the first to see the coaching cracks and they must be real because the club acknowledges them.

I agree frantas.

I have been just as frustrated as most with our patchy form this year. I had top 4 expectations at the start of the year and when we lose winnable games, I get angry about the opportunity wasted.

But as angry as I get, I get no satisfaction at all from watching/reading supporters attack coach/club and especially players. In fact I did not come on the site for several weeks because I just got sick of the constant sniping. (and yes I have probably had the occasional criticism myself).

I am not saying that the club should be insulated from supporter discontent but I agree with frantas that the attacks do turn quite feral at times - way over the top. And that is not constructive.

I really love this site in the preseason when everyone is optimistic and positive, and I came back last week after the win knowing that the tone would be more positive again. I hurt when we lose but I know there are people at the club more knowledgeable and committed to winning than I will ever be so the best thing I can do is trust them .... and keep some perspective. After all it is just a game  :fight:
