Well.

It would appear from a cursory glance over the results of today, that next week we shall see two of the powerhouses of the AFL, at the peak of their powers, go head to head in a battle to the death (which is still a possibility at Etihad).

I'm tipping Carlton in an arm wrestle, not just because they're my favourite team, but because i really want it to happen and believe in the power of positive thinking.

Also, I think their backline's slow and our forward line's quick.

That ought to help.

Would love it to be otherwise however I think we'll need large amounts of vaseline this week. This is going to hurt, especially at Etihad.

Where we play doesn't matter....intensity and structure will determine the result....

Well, call me dense if you like, but I don't see how vaseline is going to help the traction issues regarding the playing surface.

We have nothing to fear playing them and they will be satisfied with the statement they made to the comp by thrashing the dogs. I don't think they will really set themselves for this game - they have bigger fish to fry over the next 6 weeks.

Just need to come in with the right intensity and back our run. Do this and I think we are a chance.

Can't see us winning. An honourable loss without denting our % too much might be the best we can hope for.

One thing is for certain...we MUST put a defensive tag on Scarlett.

And Mackie.

And Wojinski.

And................................

Mitch Robinson must play at full forward and tag scarlet all day.
Judd should go to gary abblet and try to get rid of his tag.
Gibbs should play on selwood.
carrazo to tag chappy.

Have the boys turned the corner? Or are they still frontrunners who go missing when the game gets tough? I'm looking forward to see how we respond to a Geelong team hitting 4th gear.

Well we beat them on their merits earlier this year playing committed hard running positive footy.
It would be disappointing if we go into our shells with a defensive mindset and end up getting smashed.
We've proven we can perform with the best of them so let's be positive and go for it!

How about a good old fashion shoot out. :fight: :fight: :fight:

Forget about the taggers and tell the boys to go all out. Run them off their legs, separate their defense and run straight through the gaps. :smoking: :smoking:

Just a thought.................then again that was the Doggies plan, so maybe not

yeah..what everyone else said.
(except the vaseline bit)
was up early watchin' the replay cos you have to maximise your happiness when it happens.
soooo..the thing I love about last 2 weeks...not so much the thumpings...as the group mentality and spirit.
I want to see the boys continue to be there for each other in adversity*should it happen)..running up to a player who does something great....no blaming..(obviously no finger shaking at umps..no matter how cool it looks)..and just keep on attacking, defending and tackling hard.
That will be VERY pleasing..no matter the outcome.

ps.Am loving the tough nuts in our team..Grigga, Ellard, Haddles and Robbo..hope they will all be there.

No one has been able to see a way we could beat them the last 2 times, yet we did.

Come out with the intensity of the Essendon* game and play to our strengths like we did against them earlier in the year and we can win.

Geelong will be focusing on what they need to do to beat the filth in the finals - they won't be too worried about trying to shut us down. And I bloody hope they are focusing hard on the filth too, otherwise it's going to be a September to forget.....

i remember watching bomber's pressa after we beat them early in the season and he said they were looking forward to playing us again later in the year. think they will be pumped to beat us and might have something planned for us. in saying that i think we can win if we play at our best.

I suspect that if we do that 'kicking backwards' crap then we are gonna be in a lot of trouble.

Their intensity and pressure has lifted these past few rounds. So too has ours, but we still make the easiest of mistakes.

Win, Loose or Draw......... I just want to see my Carlton boys do us proud in this game. That's all im really asking for.

Possible injuries to Joseph, Hammer and Hadley, not sure how serious but if they don't line up who to bring in? Think AJ and Hammer are the most likely to miss.

Geelong were ominous tonight and obviously had a point to prove but I'm hoping they won't hit such a purple patch again next week (reckon the Doggies were more illness hampered than they let on too).

Anyway I'm expecting a loss but as long as it's not a flogging and we give it a go I'll be ok with it.

I think we're definitely up against it this week. The Cats won't allow us to beat them three times in a row...

No changes for me, unless they are forced...

In today's Age, Ratten is quoted as saying Hadley should be OK, but Hammer & AJ will need an assessment. Ablett will be rapt if AJ misses

Anyway, assuming Hammer & AJ are out - who comes in....?

I suppose it's a choice between Sauce & Carlos for Hammer. I'd go with Sauce (but can Sauce and Warnock play in the same team?)

And for AJ, I suppose it's between Tex, Yarran, Anderson, Hoops and Johnson. Hmm, I'll take Tex.

IN: Sauce, Tex
OUT: Hammer (inj), AJ (inj)

AJ is a big loss, although many here on TC have been screaming for his head. He has kept Ablett to reasonable possies a couple of times now and seems to match him OK for size. If not AK, I'd use Russell and tell Russell to run down the ground. Ablett has been heavily criticized for not defending his man so if we go through his man he will have to be accountable. Having said that, if his man DOES run down the ground and Ablett doesn't chase, we can't afford to turn it over or Ablett will be standing alone in the F50 licking his chops.

I agree with those who say we should go in confidently and play to our strengths. If we are in luck, they will be trialling their anti-Collingwood strategy and we will catch them a bit unprepared. We need to towel them up so they can get the jolt they need before they play Collingwood again. I will be praying they learn from that Collingwood loss. I have a friend who goes for Collingwood and even though he is not like the majority of their bogan supporters, he won't be beyond letting us know about it if they get up.

Go Blues. The finals intensity starts for us next week.
