The 20k paid by one J.Hird a few years ago is still paying dividends for this protected club. Of those 6 x 50 metre penalties , I believe the one umpire (not sure of his bumbers listed registration number) paid the majority of them. AND he laughed and giggled each time he did. How the media can turn such a blind eye to many of these incidents, beats me. They are pretty statistic happy, so i would have thought the fact that one team was awarded 6 of these penalties, many incorrectly, would be a major stat worth recording. They definitely kept them in the game as much as their wayward kicking kept them out of it. Their first half 5 goals all involved frees (and/or 50,s). This is a major fact in accurately reporting the game.
Additionally, (as someone previously pointed out) the free kick awarded to D.hille was one of the most ridiculous awarded this year. I thought the umpiring fratenity was directed to penalize players faking/ staging for frees? If we want to make this game into soccer, than decisons like these certainly would contribute to the game becoming a farce. As usual it will fly under the radar and no comment will be forthcoming.

I would like to end this comment with this word directed to one K.reimers...

SCOREBOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had the flower yips in front of goal and around the ground, a total poisoning of indecision.
We had thier messure, but our mentally fragile types cost us, and Davey going off didnt help our rotations with a fast paced gameplan.
Knights was always going to cop it if we lost.
Blame whoever you like, but some of the on field poisioning infected the coaches box too.
Sad to lose last night, especially by 76 flower points when most of the game i thought we had them, last quarter was very damaging.
After two very nice wins things looked brighter, but last night it was two steps backwards, must be so frustrating to coach this side, it sure is watching them.
Just belt the crap out of the pies next week, FFS!

Gee, the guy to the right of Knights with his head in his hands doesn't look happy. Must be a life-long Essendon* man.

Ahh Campo, you're so missed around here.

I agree with everyone else about the umpiring. And listening to 7 on the replay shows that they must have their minds on the next TV contract because the commentators refuse to have a go as the umpires.

About the crazy Hille free for headbutting, I agree with drfegg. shouldn't the match review panel have a look at it?

If not, the Giesch should explain why it was considered a free and not reportable under the new rules. I would love to hear his excuse. The umpire was right there a metre away. The cameras got it full on, there is nowhere for the umpire whoever he is to hide.

In fairness to Campo before he turned he was a good player for a long time for us. Unfortunately he went to the scum. Everyone has to make a living, even ex footballers.

I knew we wouldn't lose this. We were too determined. After the half-time melee I was double sure.

The yellow maggots were woeful. I don't know how the free kick ended up but they got 5 goals from frees, more than they earned themselves. We got 1. A lot of our free kicks were given as advantage when we had the ball anyway.
We need to do something to the Giesch.

Look through the records of every Carlton vs Essendon* match of the last 2-3 years and you will see a similar disparity with umpiring decisions/free kicks resulting in goals. There was one match (think it was first part of season of 2008) where the result was basically decided by Essendon* 50 metre penalties.

3 things

1Warnock and Hampson
Warnock was shithouse at Werribee 3 weeks ago. With some confidence he has improved. Because of his height he can be devasting in the centre in the last quarter when the shorter opponent is tired. He is also a beautiful kick. Dont handball it. Kick it.
Hampson with more experience and confidence could be very handy. Great to see him take some strong marks. Someone tell him to relax the arms when he has a shot.

2 Ellard Watched this guy closely. Has a massive tank and is in constant motion and gets to heaps of contests. He is tough and is what we need in the middle. Should have played at the start of the year. He is also a smart player. The marking contest which allowed Gartlett to kick his 4th showed you dont have to be a goliath to create a contest. Its abou positioning your body. The handball to Carrazzo which resulted in the first goal of the last was pure poetry

3 I aint gettin carried away. I sense this was a do or die game for Ratts. We played a front running side who kicked themselves out of it in the first half and were pure shit in the last.

I noticed that - holds himself very stiffly when kicking for goal. That can be worked on though.

Had serious doubts about Warnock a few weeks ago, but his last two weeks have been very good. I wish that be would stop dropping Robbo every time we lose a game or he has a bad game. He is a real goer and needs to be encouraged. Reminds me of a young Fraser Brown who took time to grow a brain but eventually developed into a tough & skilled midfielder who played lots of good fottball for us, including a Best & Fairest.
Don't know what has happened with Eddie's kicking for goal. Two or three years ago he was pretty reliable.
Garlett is a beauty.
Henderson had a good game without kicking any goals. 17 disposals, 8 marks and 5 goal assists is a pretty good nigh out. Is making the Fev trade look better all the time.
Young Davies struggled to adapt to the faster pace of the game. Not sure what Walker did wrong to get dropped, other than play like everone else - badly. Possibly was given clear instructions & ignored them. Looks like the only likely change for next week, uless they decide to stick with the kid.
Well done boys.

P.S. I would like to see a statistic of how many free kicks we give away, or are given against us in the 50m zone, compared to other clubs - like Essendon*.

It was a good team win and everyone stood up and played there best.
not sure if davies is up 2 it at the moment but i can see a good future ahead of him.

even though he messed up his disposal sometimes I thought carrots was very good to keep stanton as quiet as he was and also get himself 2 goals

Judd is a SUPERSTAR

Garlett is gonna be the best of our three indigenous players.

Simmo stepped up when we needed him

Robbo was fantastic on fletcher.

warnock was superb in the ruck

Grigg is playing some great footy

and ellard is really finding his feet in the side and in the AFL

If i had votes they would be:

Judd 5
Garlett 4
Warnock 3
Carrazzo 2
Robinson 1

Ha ha.. you do have a few brain cells between you.

No need to wait til 10pm tomorrow night, I'll just let you know how shite you are now.

Crikey, for one, calling us cheats - pleeeeeeease. I didn't bring up the salary cap rubbish, one of your blokes called us cheats, and I was informed that it was all about salary cap breaches. POT - KETTLE - BLACK... I hear your boys are still going to Dick Pratt's grave to pick up their brown paper bags We both cheated, enough said.

You have a pack of sheilas (no offence to the TalkingCarlton ladies) playing for you, we've seen that the last 6 times you have played us. Must be agony watching your 'boys' losing time after time to a team that is considered further behind you in development. All those years of being shite, and tanking, have really paid off for you.

All that BS aside, you just haven't been good enough against us, and seem to find it hard to locate your testicals when you play us. If you don't win tomorrow night, you might as well give it away.

What you're cooking - it smells like shit

SUFFER

At last Ratten was down with the players.

I said this on July 17 in another thread:

QUOTE:
It's just an observation and not backed up empirical data, but have you noticed the growth of the Crows and Tigers since their coaches have decided to sit on the boundary and teach and engender some enthusiasm in their young players?

For too long I have had an issue with the coaches perception of aloofness sitting up in the box.

I think for Ratten's sake it would be worth a try. Some of these young blokes need explanations. I am serious, the young men of today are different from past eras.

There is said to be a double meaning in the 'Y' generation. Let them know 'why' they have mucked up, or done really well. Praise gets you a long way.

Have a look at Neil Craig last night with arms over the shoulders of the guys on the bench. It might have been contrived, but it looked united.

I think those blokes would have felt a million bucks at the point in time.

Yep. Extraodinary.

Anyone who has goal umpired would realise that you need a person on each post.
We will have 4 goal umps and 4 boundary umps sooner than later.

the part which got me really excited and fired up was the slow mo of Carrots celebrating his goal with a Ric Flair style woooooooooo in the face of his opponent. Loved it! Just like we put up photos of Ess players that get our blood boiling, the bomber fans now have something too.

Just when you question Carrots spot in the team he plays a game like that and I am so happy for him. Big fan.

Good on you blue boys.... I could feel the pain of the last 7 times we've played these c...s eek away with each goal of that last 1/4. I think people underestimate the importance of Hadley in the side. It's no coincidence that Judd played his best game for eeks in th game that Hads came back into the side. Also Warnock's ruckwork was top notch. I watched the replay just before and there were just so many times in the ruck that he stuck the ball straight down one of our midfielders' throats. I can'r remember that happening so often in a game since the days of Matty Allan at his peak. Kreuz and Warnock could be one of the greatest ruck combinations of all time in the coming years.

The main concern is that we still gave up 29 scoring shots, and Essendon* were rubbish. Hard to judge the performance, but geez it was nice to finally put a team to the sword like that and even better that it was that bile from windy hill.

I thought Robbo on Fletcher reminded me of how much a gutless piker Dustin Fletcher is.

The media have been lauding him in the same company as SOS as far as Full Backs are concerned - Fletcher hasnt stood a teams first or second forward in years.

ha...
it occurs to me that Jeffy is not unlike skinny Lappin in his day.

ps...just wondrin' if the boys would consider being a little more fan friendly after a win.
it was so great to see them all so happy..I thought they could a high fived a few fans along the fence...or..handed out footies or something..you know..be a bit more inclusive?..share the love..after all, we all put in a tough week. no biggie though.
also..Love,love love taking Dean bailey's example on the bench, and arm around the players giving advice during game.
He said he'll do it again too. Fantastic.
