Supposedly Fevola's influence on this club was so bad it was tearing us apart at the seams. Yet, approaching a full season without our former talisman the "culture" and temperament of our group seems to have gone backwards. Perhaps he wasn't a, let alone the, issue. Without him we've not surprisingly gone backwards on field, a hit many were willing to take in exchange for him being gone, but the expected improvement off-field and in the tightness of our team seems not to have come.
Trading him could well have been an exercise in futility. Similar to trying to make a point to so many ridiculous posters on this ridiculous forum, really.
Take it easy Sean, we're all on the same side. I'm sure Grro cares about our current plight just as much as you and I and the others do. I'll answer your question.
I expected us to be a better TEAM without Fev (and I'm no Fev hater). I mentioned that pre game threads too.
I do believe at 7-4 earlier this year (and other than the Essendon* game) we were a much better team in the post Fev era...and so said everyone.
What has happened in the second half of 2010, or the last 6 weeks has nothing to do with Fev. Imo, and most others' opinions there's something going on and it's really wrong and very much so unrealted to Fev.
I noticed the enquiry and the body language of Hird, Healy and Sheehan on the show OTC which said to me the answers Ratts was giving to their questions regarding the softness, slow starts, structure... were so far removed from reality, that they were not worth further pursuit without ridiculing Ratts. They could have really served up more for Ratts but I'm sure his status as a tough successful player and his loyalty to his players saved him from a real serving that evening.
Ratts was spruiking for the CFC or living in denial that evening and has been till yesterday's press conference...imo.
Finally Ratts is asking questions of the players (not Fev's departure or lack of replacement), whilst we continue to ask questions about the game plan and the motivation Ratts is providing the team as well as of some of the personnel who took part in yesterday's game.
Fev has nothing to do with the current form debarcle we are experiencing.
Furthermore, the ball would not have given Fev enough supply to make a difference. We were creamed yesterday as we have in the previous 6 weeks (all bar the 3rd qtr last week).
We are asking different questions of the team's fabric in round 18 than we were in round 11.
None of us know the answers for the last 6 weeks.
London Blue called me at half time yesterday and said a couple of interesting things. Let me say this about him first: he's a pragmatic well rounded business man with good control over the emotional issues in business and football...and a damn good footballer too...who I admire and respect. He said there's something really wrong at the club. We don't just fall away like that if there isn't any deep issues. Not once was the issue Fev related, but there were inferences to the possibility of Ratts losing the players or worse. I agree with him, but I also know we're just guessing because none of us know all th facts.
