But pick #11 for a player from the wooden spoon club who didn't make the top 10 of their B&F the year before, who has a history of injury problems, who has questionable pace and ability to spread, and who has no depth in his kicking... :screwy: :banghead:

If the Demons wouldn't deal for less than #11 (or at least agree to, say, Brock + #34 for #11 + #59, or similar), an alternative might have been to shift our focus to Luke Ball or even Shane Tuck, whom we might have been able to get for a lot less...

The best and fairest result means little.

Gibbs and Murphy finished higher in our B & F than Fevola who won another AA guernsey.

Mclean wasn't doing the role their coaches asked of their players.

I believe Mclean wasn't happy with the role they asked him to play last year.

Why do you think he left?

Collingwood went hard for an inside midfielder with dodgy groins who was dropped by the Saints last year.

Yet Ball didn't crack a spot in their top ten in their B & F ahead of Blake and Gram.

Mclean is a good and penetrating kick.

He left because he is getting almost double the amount per year compared to what Melb offered him plus a longer deal. The Demons couldn't agree to the deal fast enough; who else was going to offer Brock the sort of contract we did! :banghead: :banghead:

Two massive winners, one even bigger loser!

BTW they have really missed him this year! :hitcomputer:

For me, it isn't a question of whether we should have gone after Brock, it's whether we gave up too much for him.

Brock brings hardness, endurance, footy smarts and leadership skills to our midfield...

Anyway, I reckon in 12 months time we'll have a better idea as to whether this trade was a good idea. It didn't seem like a good idea at the time, it seems like a worse idea now, so fingers crossed Brock can have a better 2011.... :?

"Really hope this trade works out... Brock has had only one top 10 quality type year (in 2006).

Hopefully he can get his body right, but Brock has been injury prone, slowed down further (not quick to begin with) while the game has sped up, and disposal has been questionable at times!"

The above was posted on the 23rd Sep 2009 in the "Brock McLean - SEMI-OFFICIAL for PICK 11".

What is incredibly disturbing is you didn't have to be Nostradamus to predict Brock's 2010! He won't get close to playing the number of games for Carlton that he played for Melb!

Sadly, that may turn out to be a good thing!

Put him mothballs and get him fit and ready for 2011. He'll come good.

I guess Carlton or another club wouldn't have drafted Mclean with a selection between picks 11 & 30 if he had nominated for the 2010 draft...

What a great post.

Probably. But I've stopped being critical. Shit happens all the time.
But in the mean time we've got him and he's got an opportunity to be a success for both parties.

After another preseason where he can knuckle down on the stuff he needs to rather than racing against Judd he may just be right to show his stuff. He might do it in this year's finals series. Who knows. No one.

In the next 2 years, maybe from 2011, he may show he was worth 2010's start and give us a good 2nd and 3rd year of his contract when we need it.

You never know.

What I do know is that a Brock McLean in peak form would be fantastic against the Pies tomorrow.
He's smash 'em and make a few of them think twice.
He's no good injured. That applies to all players.

Unconfirmed story about when we realised we were overpaying giving #11 for Brock.
Apparantly Swanny went to Melb anf tried to get something else thrown in.

Demons offered us butter, cheese, sour cream, spring onion and coleslaw.

Geez if Brock reads even 10% of the articles and comments directed at him, writing him off, he must be fuming.

If he will make the difference in getting us another win and securing finals berth, then get him back in the team.
Otherwise set him up for a massive pre-season and bring on Brock in 2011.
