Hi guys, as always I come in peace to share my weekly Match Preview. I'm looking forward to the game and I hope you enjoy the preview linked below.

Here it is.

http://www.thebigtip.com.au/afl/rivalry ... -v-carlton

Quote:
I have no doubt that Collingwood versus Carlton is still the biggest rivalry in AFL football. ANZAC Day may be the biggest build up and the interstate derbies may be the most brutal, but the Collingwood v Carlton rivalry is the most traditional contest. The battle between these 2 sides has never relied on ladder position, nor has it relied on gimmicks or promotion. Without fail, this game will always draw a big crowd and the atmosphere will always be electric.

However, clashes over the last 15 years have counted for very little. Collingwood was not a contender towards the latter part of the 90’s, whilst Carlton was at its worst throughout the 2000’s. Thankfully, we are now at a stage where both the Magpies and the Blues are finals contenders, and victory carries even more weight.

Good work Dave.

I think Dave had the carlton fans in mind when he made that prediction. If I was a Collingwood fan I'd be tipping 40 points plus.

But I'm not so i say Carlton by 19

The most entertaining preview of the Blockbuster thus far.

Well done.

Could be an upset.
Collingwood's recent form undeniable.

Not bad but I'd suggest Jamo will get Dawes and Bower to Cloke.
Jamo usually gets the deep forward and Dawes seems to play that role more than Cloke.

Impressive work. Fair and detailed. Still think we will struggle to match the physical presence of Collingwood.

Go Blues!

I have to agree on the Jamo v Cloke comment.

Cloke spends far too much time up the ground and Jamo is a stay at home defender. He'll most likely get Dawes.

Either way, a good tactic for Collingwood would be to try and drag him out of his comfort zone. I rate Jamo highly.

It's such a great feeling to support a club who has traditional rivals.

Rivalries formed of the present are all good and well, but they're not eternal. They're immediate and accessible to the public because both teams are usually good teams at that moment. People get excited when Geelong and Hawthorn play. Yep, their recent matches have been enthralling and entertaining. Sydney and West Coast were like that for a time. Their matches were unmissable. Now I'd check to see when they're playing to schedule a visit to the dentist.

What we have with Essendon* and Collingwood and, also Richmond, is meaningful because when you're the unbackable favorite you get really nervous. When you're the underdog you get really excited. The playing field is leveled somewhat by history and all that has come before us. It's not about the players of the day and the rivalry between playing lists, its about the colours that they've always worn.

The stakes are high because the fans care so much. It's 4 points and 6 months worth of bragging rights. Playing these matches down as insignificant is a disservice to those who made them great, and to the fans who can't wait for each of them to roll around.

Remember that feeling when Fev wrestled Nathan Brown in the goalsquare, freeing himself for just long enough to kick a goal? Or when Grigg dribbled the ball through from 35 to seal the win once and for all. It wasn't just relief we'd snapped that losing streak, it was ecstasy that we'd done it against someone so engrained in our history, someone who made the win so much sweeter.

People like Gerard Whateley have no idea what matches like this feel like, and I love it when they denigrate them as meaningless. Those manufactured rivalries of today are as dispensable as they come, replaced by the next cab off the rank as soon as they've become vaguely disinteresting.

We are a big club. Days like Saturday prove it.

Carlton 2012: Lets remind them why they once feared the Dark.

To label age old rivalries such as Carlton v Collingwood as meaningless in the modern era is to label similar historic bitter rivalries from other codes such as Celtic v Rangers, Liverpool v Everton, Barcelona v Real Madrid, Aust v NZ (Rugby), Aust v Eng (Cricket) as meanignless...
This just isnt the case... Unless you're a part of it, either as a player or as a supporter, its hard to understand the extent of what these games mean...

That's right.

And that's why those recent demeaning articles on rivalry discount the most important aspect of the game: the supporter.

Don't know if we can aford it.
But I'd like to try Gibbs on the half forward line.
May just throw them and give Bryce a new lease.
He would demand respect and if his kicking boot was on, be rather damaging.

Regards
Pedro.
