The match day report laid against Carlton’s Jarrad Waite for engaging in rough conduct against West Coast’s Adam Selwood was assessed. The panel said that Selwood had kicked the ball when Waite made contact with a bump. Contact was made to Selwood’s shoulder area and the action was not considered to be a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Correct decision.

Correct decision but he was lucky he didn't make contact with his head otherwise he would have been sidlined for many weeks with his carryover points

There was nothing in it, but it's not because Jarrad did the right thing. He easily could have slipped to making head contact

jarrad has to learn to stop bumping. It's not something he can control well, so just tackle. Anyway as Blighty said, he should have smothered the kick instead.

I luv the bump, but from a purely football point of view, if Jarrad had extended his arms and pushed Selwood in the side he might have affected the kick or he could have smothered.

Good bump, but I can see the writing on the wall. You wouldn't want to be getting with two or so inches of the head every time, so it could spell the end for the H&S.

Exactly.

And nor should have been called 'dumb' from Carlton fans.
He was committed to the tackle/spoil. Nearly got to him and in a split second Selwood disposed of the ball then Waite braced himself.
I thought Waite was pretty smart the way he executed the fair bump.

I wish some of his Carlton supporting detractors would just get off his back.

I don't believe he should have been suspended the lat time either.

I don't like the bias Hawthorn supporting twit, but I think he said the opposite..."Waite has nothing to worry about".

Nah he didn't....

You must have had it the other way around.

I reckon he saw that it was Selwood (Judd's tagger) and thought I'll iron him out here. I think it was the first piece of physicality thrown up at Selwood all night, which is great, except it was junk time and the game was done and dusted. Whoever goes to Judd, needs to be physically punished at every opportunity, but let's get it done early in the game, not the end of it

The problem Waite has now is that everytime he bumps into another player the umps will report him (regardless if it is right or wrong) because of his record.

I admire your loyalty Bondi but that's bollocks IMO.
It was a downfield free kick every day of the week which is undisciplined and selfish. If Waite wants to become a team player he should have smothered the ball and kept it in the forward line.
Ratten should have dragged him and given him a kick up the arse. Letting senior players get away with rubbish like that is sending the wrong message to all the young kids on our list. Waitey spends too much time trying to be a tough man instead of sticking his head over the aggot and being a team leader.

Trying to smoother or laying a tackle is a lot tougher then the sniping bump waitey put on!
Time to grow up Waitey and play like a senior player - however I can't seem him changing his ways

Nah, not loyalty; just the way I saw it.

Waitey is quite fast with his execution and also very mobile for a very tall player.

I agree with you about the possibility of the smother (good point)> I didn't think of that because at the time, I thought for a sec Waite had got to Selwood before he disposed of the ball, then ever so quickly it became a shoulder charge after the kick was taken. Split second stuff there BV. Sure it should have been a kick downfield for what unfolded, but it certainly was not a reportable offence, and that's the main point I'm making.

The other point I'm making is that I don't think Waite is a dumb player. Over zealous at time? Sure, but not dumb.
Perhaps his action is one which should be taken up with his instructors/ coaches. Perhaps. Perhaps it may just be a Waite trait.
I don't know and I'm sure no one knows where the aggression comes from. I wonder if Waitey knows.

Good decision - nothing in it!

I can't help but think that 'frustration' is playing a part with Waitey and his constant 'bumping' of opponents. He has been a swing man for us almost since his debut. And the fact that he plays so well for us at both ends of the ground is the reason why this keeps happening.

But I'd love to see him settled into a role - and with a bit of luck the frustration levels may reduce as well which could lead to him being more settled and less likely to bump.

I prefer Waitey across half back but for team balance he must play forward for the remainder of 2010. If we can get another tall forward option over summer then definately settle him down back for 2011 and beyond...
