The first half was so diabolically bad I still haven't been able to be happy about the win. Im sure that will come in the next day or two.

Pro - Got to see my first match in a couple of weeks
Con - the first half was as bad a half as I have ever seen any Carlton side play... ever. We might not have ever been the toughest side in the league, but one thing that we always had was great skills. The players that run out in the first half looked like they had never seen a football before.

Pro - Ellard... not the mesiah, not a great player and butchered the ball a bit, but I think he did a very good job on Pridis and wore him like a glove all evening. The fact that he even got his own ball was a plus in my perspective.
Con - Our "elite" mid-field's complete lack of commitment (first half at least). I know a lot of people here have been pumping up Simmo's tyres and I guess he did alright, but seriously when Johnson is about the best mid-fielder before half time we have some serious problems. What is wrong with Murphy and Gibbs. In my opinion Gibbs has had a horrible year. He looked better when he went forward a bit in the 3rd, but seriously, I was expecting this guy to be great and at the moment he is just not showing anything.

Pro - Hendo - looks pretty good and is holding a few marks. I think that if Hendo/hammer/waite etc can string enough games together add the three aboriginal boys and we will have a forward line that is hard to stop (providing the three aboriginal boys actually decided to try, sometimes they are just downhill skiers and do not do the 1%ers).
Con - looking for betts when he has two blokes on him and completely ignoring our tall guys. In an attempt to become unpredictable we have become quite predictable. I reckon we look for Betts almost as much as we did Fev last year when we go forward now, only difference is that Betts usually keeps trying even if the pass is not cm perfect.

Pro - Ratten's coaching after half time. I do not know what Ratts can do when the players come out and butcher the ball so badly. But the match committee tried a few things after half time and got us back into the match. It was heading for a very nasty defeat today by a West Coast side that had their tails up and a home crowd baying for blood. Releasing Simmo and putting Gibbs forward seemed to spark us. Judd lifted and so did those around him.
Con - Everything seems to get left to Judd.

Pro - Taking the game on from the backline. I liked how we tried to move the bal on quickly at every opportunity in the second half. I think that as our backline gets more used to playing with each other, that we will have a pretty solid defence. We seem to have the right mix of speed and height. Need to all improve their skills and no each others strengths and weaknesses.
Con - Our ruck division. I know that Warnock and Hammer need time to play together, but I really did not think our rucks gave us anything tonight (especially in the first half). If Kruze does not develop into a top class ruckman then I think that we are stuffed. None of the players that we have running around in the ruck at the moment are going to be anything more than servicable.

Pro

Nth Melbourne lost.

I might be alone here but Warnock was instrumental in us winning the clearances at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. He must have won the first 3 or 4 centre square bounce downs against Cox and Naitanui and gave our midfielders first use with taps into space.

Could both do more around the ground, however, in terms of the ruck duel, they more than held their own.

Jolly will see where they are at next week.

AJ - thought he has been ordinary but early he was trying to take them on when everyone else was static
Finally, in desperation after half time we ditched the kick it short to the opppo game plan and got it in quick and direct
Judd is a superstar
Great bravery by Army - hope he's okay
Hendo tracking well

CONS
Warnock was okay but really can't see that he is better than Jacobs at this stage

Murph seems very aware of the opposition in any contest, needs to think more about the ball than what's coming

Pros:

We won after a disgraceful first half.
The back half look so much less static without Thornton. While I like him, I think unfortunately, he's just not part of the future any more.

Cons:
The first half.
Army's injury. He was one of the few who put it all on the line in the pathetic performances of the last couple of weeks. The footy gods can be cruel.

Simmo - Great all night
Grigg - Played like he did in 08, the kid has all the tools and I really hope he continues on with this sort of form.
Judd - Loved his goal and his excitement when Hendo kicked a goal in the second half. AMAZING PLAYER.
Hendo - Give him time because he will be all class.
Yazz - Speaking of all class, he is the sort of player that can make a difference in a big game or final. Keen to see how he goes next week.
Senior players working their way into the game. Scotto, Waite and Murph in particular.
Hammer and 206 did well I thought.

Cons:
Waite's hit at the end, shouldn't get weeks but it didn't need to be done.
Army, loved the attack on the ball and I hope it was a message to some mates about how hard they need to go. Sounds like there is no major damage so that's is a pro I suppose.
The first half was bad and if we were playing a good team the game would have been over.
I was cheering on Essendon* to win

Strange game but sometimes you have to grind out a win. We took the 4 points and moved a step closer to September which is the aim for any football club. The next 3 weeks are massive and I hope we can come away with 3 wins.

Player's attitude at the start of games. They walk into a game like superstars but play like a bunch of Paul Licurias

Walker is frustrating me, I'd say he's our worst tackler and that's saying quite a bit, not hard to escape his tackles. Also over runs the ball constantly and bad skills.

Not even that mark and goal in the last quarter where he started behind Cox, bolted past him and took a one grab mark in a pack situation?

I disagree, he has plenty going for him except the deplorable record at our club for player development!

They were the away team last week, yet they wore what is their traditional jumper.

Ellard may have kept that game breaker in Priddis quiet...but i am concerned that it took 3 seasons to get his 2nd game. Doesn't fill one with confidence
1 AW...MY FAV PLAYER.... but his disposal is WOEFUL! Maybe player him as a forward where he doesn't need to hit a target as much.
The 1st half was embarrassing.
Forward structure. Why can't we instruct one tall target to stay put in the hot spot in the forwardline, with the crumbers at his feet.
Eddie should not be flying for pack marks.
