Really sick of the Hampson bashers. The guy is a freak specimen. His pace is amazing.. his chasing has been great. He NEEDS to play AFL football if he's going to learn, and become a good player for us.

Carrying? FFS.. hes played a couple of games this year! and IMO hes shown steady improvement since coming into the forwardline. Put him in the square, Pagan style and he will have a field day.

Hampson has clearly struggled a bit with the step up in pace, but in each of his three games he has improved dramatically as the game has gone on, and each game has been better than the last. We need to get more games in him, and we especially need him this week when we are playing at Subi, against Cox and NicNat.

How can you be thrilled with yourself when you are:

Degrading a kid with so much upside.
Degrading a kid who played very well last year as the No 2 ruck with Kruezer.
Degrading the fastest player over 20m in our team, and happens to be 203cms.
Degrading a player who was valued so much by other teams they offered high draft picks for the swap.
Degrading a kid from interstate who has committed to Carlton.
Degrading a kid who has made Carlton his home and had his family move south to join his quest to become a Carlton champion.
Degrading a kid who has the potential to be a Carlton champion.
Degrading a kid who was one of our few highlights from the Swans game....

The knockers say whatever comes to their head first and conveniently forget about the positives and probabilities.
How can you worry about what people like that say?

The whole Jacobs vs Hampson vs Warnock debate really surprises me. It is very interesting that views are so polarised.

For me, Sam Jacobs is so far ahead of the other two at this point that it seems obvious. He is a superior tap ruckman, he is a much better mark, and most importantly he has a football brain and usually takes the right option instinctively. This is particularly obvious when you watch him off the play live at games rather than on TV. I guess its the old footballer vs athlete argument in relation to Sammy and Shaun.

The problem is they are all young and they all need development and they all need to play senior football to take the next step. We need all three. We want all three to exceed expectations and become top liners. Only two can play at a time. We have to see what Hampson and Warnock can do with sustained game time, but I'd like to think they should at least show something in the Bullants to earn their spots.

If Warnock cant outreach and outmark his opponents nine times out of ten because he cant jump over a jam tin then his extreme height offers no advantage.

Hampson's lack of football nouse, tin hands and atrocious kicking style can be at least be compensated for by his size, speed, and athleticism and by that word "potential". I fear he'll never make it, but he needs to play every game for the rest of the season and I dearly hope he proves me wrong.

I have no problem with Sammy being given a rest for Warnock this week as I dont see Warnock languishing in the reserves indefinitely accomplishing anything. While Kruze is out the other three all need to be rotated through the seniors (depending on at least showing something).

Come on big fellas we need you all.

Brock Lesnar is a freak specimen, 6'5 120kgs and wears size 4xl gloves and can bench 220 kgs. Hammer is merely a tall bloke with some decent athletic ability. RIGHT NOW we are not in the caper of trying to give fringe players as much game time as we can at the expense of the team, we need to win games and fast!

The guy has hardly set the world on fire, lets be honest! IMO we have been carrying this bloke.
21 possessions in 3 games with 2 goals is hardly tearing the game apart. We need 22 v 22 this week, we can't afford to be giving time to blokes who aren't pulling their weight. Im sick to death of people saying we need to get time into him as one day he may just light up a game. Its nearly impossible to teach a player footy smarts. He did not grow up with our game, positioning, general marking, and reading of the play are serious downfalls of his. Its Warnock and Sauce that should be playing IMO, at the moment, they are our 1 and 2 rucks for us to be putting out our best 22!


And BB, I am not degrading anybody, don't accuse people of such acts. disgrace
I couldn't possibly care less if the kid was the fastest on the planet, brought his family over from japan, was 240cms, was a no.1 draft pick, the fact is on gameday he is not doing enough!

Did you watch last week's game? I'm not trying to take the piss, it's just that I came away from that game thinking that Hammer's performance was the straw I'd be clutching at this week, along with a couple of Yarran's runs in the first half. Took a couple of good marks, including one where he pushed off a defender beautifully. A couple of dodgy kicks for goal, but also one beauty. Would be astounded that anyone would think of dropping him after that showing. The fixation on making the finals is a bit of a red herring to me, we were never a flag chance this year, especially once we finally shipped Fev off. Games into kids is what it's all about - Hampson has to play the rest of the year - be thinking of 2012, not the next 6 weeks.

Who would you rather have playing forward than him..? give me your grand plan? He's been on par with Setanta of late... and actually has a better work ethic. Saw him chase 3 consecutive swans players in the forwardline and nearly intercept each handpass... You don't think his speed matters there?

If the delivery to and structure of our forwardline was actually good, his talents would have been even more evident the last few weeks.

Club would be silly not to persist with this considering the steps he has already taken in just a few games.

What are your reasons for Jacobs and Warnock? By all reports, Hampson was in ripper form in the VFL and deserved the call up. Warnock has been just so-so.


What exactly should he be doing? Have Warnock or Jacobs done it?


I think he's just tired of rants that do not appear to be based on fact, nor any logic. The fact of the matter is people groan whenever Hampson doesn't win a contest, despite the fact that neither Jacobs or Warnock would even make a good deal of said contests.

Can he slow down a bit ala Walker and win a few more? You bet.
Will he learn this over time? Yep.
Has this been happening from quarter to quarter, game to game? Absolutely.

Until the final quarter Hammer was the 4th best ruck man on the field. Actually even in the last quarter also.

Yes he showed he could lead and mark in the last ...... Finally he showed something.

Can he produce that when the game is on the line? Can he take contested marks as our get out target from kick outs?

For me I seriously doubt his ability to produce the goods.

Really, does it make much difference whether Warnock plays instead of Hampson or Jacobs? Most likely not.

Our issues are more complex and deep seated than which 2 of the 3 ruckmen plays. Therefore, if the MC wants to test out 206 in match conditions at AFL level then let's see what Warnock is made of and let's see him start earning his way. He's costing us $400 k p.a.

If he doesn't work out we could trade him to Melbourne so he can join his brother and we might extract some retribution for McLean and Johnson.

I thought Hammer was good last week. Chased hard, put pressure on players in the backline, put some nice tackles on, took some nice marks and kicked a couple of goals. For his second game of the season he has done very well.

If they bring in the two ruckmen then maybe Hammer is taking the Santanta spot? I must admit I get excited over hammer.

Jacobs has been giving away too many frees at the ruck contests. Whether this is due to his lack of athleticism or not I don't know but it's been happening too often for mine. I'm happy to give the Warlock a shot.

If they are serious about developing him as a fwd then play him fwd for every min of the game, and the rest of the year for that matter.

If that means 2 additional ruckmen that's fine.

When Sam has been caught badly out of position he has been giving some decent shoves in the back to get himself back in the contest. I guess sometimes you get caught out of position and need to cop knowing you are not getting 1st hands on the pill and not give a free away.

I agree with those saying Sauce looks tired, and I have no problems with giving him a rest.


Jacobs has played 11 games this year, for a total of 13 free kicks for, and 15 free kicks against.

That's 1.2 free kicks for a game, and 1.4 free kick against a game.

Seems to me they pretty much even out.
