...And? Who gives a flying @#$%&! what Synbad's opinion is. Keep in mind that half of the anti-Ratten bandwagoners are only doing so because they got it so horribly wrong with Pagan. I was hounded down in this forum when I dared suggest Pagan was a hack of the highest order and the game had long passed him by.

Apparently we beat Hawks as well as Saints and Cats...
Good research there Mike!
noticed Ratts didn't correct him either.

Ratts made some valid points.

Work hard and we can turn this around.

I'm sure that was the line midway through 2007 as well.

Ratts should be given the rest of the season to turn it around for sure but let's not be dismissive to what maybe serious issues.

The video up on the OTC site is only about 3 minutes long - is that all he was on for?

StatsRatts has never been a good media performer. Even when we've been doing well he always seems a bit out of his depth in front of the press so really I am loathe to extrapolate based on how he came across last night.

I want him to succeed.
I really do.
I hope they fix any simmering feuds or troubles...and that Ratts is not too proud to ask for help if he needs it....and that means on whatever level ... emotional if he is struggling, or help with an effective game plan..or help in uniting the team, and bringing out their best.
Whatever it takes.

Key Problems for Ratts to address:

1. Hardness at the contest (he has identified this but was not impressed with his counter that we are 31games younger...). For me, this includes getting to the ball first and getting the ball off the opposition with the intensity of rockets jets and a team who CANNOT BEAR TO LOSE! This is the 'Eye of the Tiger' vibe not currently evident.

2. Strategies going into the forward line. Don't know the answer here but something must be done. We often kick to the guy leading out the the boundary but ignore the 2 players leading into the space created closer to goal as a result of the first wide lead...

3. Working hard off the ball. This includes give and go, protecting Juddy (& each other). Was not impressed that he tried to link this to Hadlee/McLean.... as if one player getting the hard ball a few times a game will magically release Judd. ALL Geelong players do it; ALL HAwthorn players do it. Ditto for Collingwood & St Kilda. Would like to see players running harder without the ball. Decoy leads to create space; the commentators were complimenting Daisy Thomas b/c after giving the ball off he bust his gut to run past an opposition player chasing the ball player just so he could sheppard for him. We (including Murphy, Gibbs, sometimes even Judd) give the ball and then stop to take a few deep breaths.

That's for starters....

Nah, the segment ran for about 10 minutes.

10 minutes?

That's longer than our competitive game time. 10 minutes into the first we're usually shot. (its the youth, you know)

Get a grip....just trying to provide an unhysterical view on things. If posters want to argue the opposite, that's fine, but there's way to much "drama-queening" going on around here.

Michael Voss yesterday said he'd like to drop half his team. They are to blame. Today Tony Kelly has announced a total review of the club chaired by michael Voss.

Brett ratten didn't pot his team on a TV interview. I don't think it's a hanging offence. I didn't watch it and I don't intend to. But I don't expect Ratts to come on and belittle his players.
Do we want answers? probably.
But to be honest, talk is cheap. I'd like the team to start winning. There is nothing Brett Ratten could have said last night that would have appeased me.

Like it or not, he's our coach for the next 6 weeks at least. So I prefer action not words.

Have just watched the interview. Ratten handled the grilling very well I thought. Gerard and Mike fired away with the hard questions, James Hird sat on the fence and took a lighter approach.

What I noticed was that Ratten looked under pressure and even angry when Gerard fired a few of the harder questions. I think it's fair to say that this interview has come at a fantastic time- it may even be a few weeks overdue, because if this doesn't fire the coaches and the team up for the weekend, then I'm afraid nothing will.

I hope the players tuned in to watch this. They say to ignore the media and just go about your business, but if I was a Carlton player and saw the team get labeled as soft, etc, then the first thing you would want to do is get out there and prove them wrong. Negative press may be a blight on confidence, but if the team are serious about their footy, then they will respond accordingly this weekend. The guilt that some of the players may have felt from watching their coach get grilled on live TV could also provide a spark. We can lay all the blame on the coach but responsibility also lies with the team. This has to be the spark we need- can't wait for the weekend to see how things pan out.

Of course he did. He'd love nothing more than to see Ratts keep his job because he knows we be just as bad as his side if Ratts stays on.

It may well be that Ratts just hasn't learned the fine art of image and brand projection on TV. But a senior coach needs this skill. Feeding the chooks might be seen to be a 'soft skill' but it keeps the wolves from the doors when things aren't going your way.

You just need to sell the vision, paint the big picture. And any hiccups along the way are just that - hiccups. But with Ratts, we don't know what the vision is (save for the obvious, which is to play finals and one day win a flag).

So when things go wrong, everyone's looking at the last week's effort, rather than focussing on what Ratts is trying to build.

This is a failure to communicate properly, and I blame the club. They shouldn't be sending a coach out there without these skills. And they're easily-taught skills. They don't win you football matches, but they keep the bloodthirsty media off your back. And that's gotta make the whole club's job a lot easier.

For example, after the Bulldogs pantsed us last week, Ratts came out and said that he knew what was wrong but they'd been working in it in training during the week and fixed it. Then we get pantsed by the Swans three days later. Very surprising that Ratts would tell the football world that a few tweaks at training would turn around a 10 goal loss... and he was betting everything on the team actually turning it around. Which they didn't.

So Ratts comes across looking like he has no idea, when I'm sure (well I bloody hope anyway) that's not the case.

Please Ratts, do yourself a favour, and articulate exactly what you're trying to do with this team... not week-to-week reactive stuff, but just paint the big picture for us, the medium-long term vision. And once you've done that, put every win and loss into that context. That's exactly what Ross Lyon does so effectively. That may not be your cup of tea, but it'd make your life a shitload easier if you did.

Or you can live week-by-week, and have people questioning your position every bloody time we have a bad loss.

Do the club think there supporters are a pack of fools or something.

If you're a fan of the club's facebook page, they've just uploaded photos 'of a very brief indoor skills session' for all to see....... now If thats a skills session then god bloody help us!!!

Not only that, they've been very selective and uploaded photos so it looks like everything is all hunky dory.

Now im not saying its all doom and gloom within the playing group but come on, how bloody obvious are they trying to make that they are trying to maks a problem.

Cause James Hird has never plotted against us before hey or is that just fantasy.

Many opposition supporters would like to see Ratten stay on as Blues coach cause they know as long as this man is coaching we gonna do sweet flower all.
