Sure - it works for some...but not for all.

At the end of the day - at AFL level, the onus is on both parties to prepare properly for the game. The players get plenty of opportunity to get ready when they arrive at the ground. They have enough opportunity to sit in a corner with a footy and listen to Back in Black, seek out a physio for a rubdown, chat to an assistant coach or have a cold shower.

The coaches have plenty of opportunity to go through the gameplan, the final instructions and talk to any players they deem appropriate to have a chat to. In the rooms before a game you will see all of the above. There's one player who leaves it as late as possible to get out of his suit and change into his warm up gear...one coach who looks very pensive but is upbeat and encouraging, and another player who is very vocal and has gone from being a real smartarse in his first year to displaying very good leadership qualities in his third.

I think the anti-Ratten crew would have voted 'Coaches' without thinking too much about it. But had they put their collective brain cells together to form half an embryonic brain, their argument should have been that, like the side we just played, the players should be somewhat motivated in playing for their coach. You hear that sentence bandied around quite a bit - but the reality is that it's true. That should be a contributing motivational factor.

As pro-Ratten (to see out his contract) as I am, and as much as I agree with Kade Simspson's sentiments - I cannot find an argument to suggest that the current playing group is 'playing for Ratts'.

So does it seem by recruiting choice/ team balance we have too many introverts?
The entire Hawks list seems to be plucky young upstarts.
I always like a mad ruckman at the bounce, we have all Doris Day's Sauce, Hammer, Kreuz, 206, give me a car jumping Geebung drunk like Renouf or a mad stare O'hAilpin on the ball to make nasty and bring the others into a contest.
Intensity is modern football, guys like Russell, Gibbs, Murphy, Yarran, Garlett, even Jamison lately don't bring it to every contest.
Switching on is the players responsibilty, the problem is if you never drop anyone when their GPS numbers are down or the lay no tackles or get any contested ball: well it's just talk right?
I also subscribe to post signing contract fatigue syndrome for a few, check the DSM4

Actually, that reminds me..the three that went to boxing camp were three of our brughtest and best when we were up and about.
Mandatory boxing camp over summer for all might be a good thing..and would like to see Murph and Gibbs go there right now.
(have to admit..Ratts comment on Murph not having full pre season appeased my doubts on him.)

It's like good or bad customer service in the end.
The last five weeks,
we've had the equivalent of the shop chic filing her nails and telling you to wait while she chats on the phone.

So the boys are Sybil Fawlty and Basil is... Judd?

not sure..but I think Manuel may be Ratts.... :?

Maybe Judd is still Basil, Ratts is Sybil and the rest are Manuel?
