It really pains me to see ratts in this position. He's Carlton through and through, but he's struggling. Throroughly unconvincing tonight.

Agreed. I am not a big fan of Ratts the coach but I was hurting watching him talk and try to answer the major questions.

Yeah...hiding to nothing. But part of the job. It's not an area he's particularly strong in...coaches like Malthouse have been around long enough that they treat these guys with contempt and get away with it. Ratts can't do that. 6.5/10. Interviewing was hardly of a good standard.

Great player and all but a pathetic response from a pathetic coach.

i was impressed.. Watching it i could see an underlying anger coming up.. An "us versus them" mentality that will hopefully hold us in good stead for the remaining 6 weeks..If the players had any heart they would be very upset seeing the coach get grilled like that.

i wonder if any other coach would have had those type of questions asked?

:? Disagree with that statement. I thought he was very straightforward.

What he didn't do was what all the anti-Ratts group wanted, take all the blame himself and throw himself on the the sword for our viewing edification.

Not anti Ratten but pro Carlton.

He struggled, fumbled for answers and he looked out of his depth. Very sad to see. Looked close to the point of no return. If any players were watching that they wouldn't be filled with confidence.

How is that a valid point TBB? Mitch Robinson is not soft and he has played how many games? Joel Selwood wasn't soft from day one. I am sick of the inexperience card being played all the time. How soft have the Tiges been recently, how much talent do they have, and how hard do they go. Ryan Houlihan is closing on 200 games, does he need another 31 games to convince himself to go harder?

it never fails to surprise me how people can watch the same thing but interpret it completely differently.

I don't think he smashed the interview out of the park in any way shape or form, but there is no way he fumbled, struggled or "Looked close to the point of no return". :?

Handled the interview well enough. Seemed a bit rattled at times but looked like he was rattled that he may look rattled.
Tough time for any coach to be interviewed.

6 outa 10 with Ross lyon being 10 outa 10 because i like when he gets all footy nerd and giggles as he talks about rebound fifties. Kinda like an IT geek talking about girls.

My first question.......'Brett your season has spiralled out of control. Despite getting plenty of the ball your side cannot score and have been uncompetitive even against apparent inferior sides. It would also appear you've lost the players judging by recent heartless and spineless performances. Why should you still be senior coach of the Blues?

Thankfully for Gerard, Mike and James they didn't embarass themselves by asking this.

Gerard did ask why we're not in crisis though (after Ratts said our aim is to make the finals) and Ratten pointed out again that we're in the 8 with an 8-8 record and a percentage over 100. The ball is in our court.

Mike did call us soft, to which Ratten pointed out that Sydney have an average of 31 games more experience, which is a very valid point.

After quarter time we had more inside 50's and matched them for scoring shots.

So yeh, our forwardline structure is falling down after years relying on Fev. It was working well earlier this year, but has fallen away. Waite has been in and out, Henderson is new to the club (as well as still only being 20 and played a handful of games forward).

Put your hand if you thought we were going to fix our forward structure this year?

Overall, I was pleased that he's acknowledged our confidence being down and that slow starts contribute to that as I think they're major reasons for our slump.

Why would they embarrass themselves by asking that question?

No rose coloured glasses, I believe I just said I didn't think he was great, just contradicting your own over the top opinion which appeared to me being seen through those black lensed glasses.

Ross Lyon gets a 10 out of 10 in people's books for two reasons:

- He identifies his own personal feelings on a particular matter

- He denies interviewers the floor by drawing out his responses for as long as possible while keeping the people looking to question him engaged.

He does not offer more than what Ratts' does in terms of insight, he just makes the people asking questions think he is. Malthouse & Eade put the fear of God in them when they don't want to answer questions and go on rants, but balance it out by playing favourites on select shows/segments, or knocking up something in their respective columns.

My point? It's a question of persona and presence, not substance.

Agreed. I was glad Sheahan asked the question, I just wish he pushed harder after Ratten's pretty poor response.

Ratts was okay in parts and poor in others.

I still don't think either he or the players get it. They talk about trying to regain flair. :hitcomputer:

How about just concentrating on chasing, harassing and playing the game with proper intensity week in week out. Once they have that sorted then they can start faffing about trying to find flair.

You don't need talent or skill to chase hard. You need desire and a willingness to attack the ball. I haven't heard anyone from the club say anything about these basic facets of the game. It's been all about finding a spark. Don't go looking for some bullshit spark, generate drive through hard work and passion for the club FFS!

I thought he was ok. Didn't set the world on fire but that's not who Ratts was as a player so not expecting as much as everyone else was.

Possibly if he performed some self mutilation some posters might have been happy.

We have 6 more games to go, let's see how the season plays out.
