Another question...

Following wins against Carlton, coaches such as Clarkson, Eade and Roos (possibly more, too) have come out and said, that's the best we've played all year; do you have to work on playing other teams in to form, or does it just come naturally?

Well Mike, if that's your real name, I bet you they didn't have season bigh KPI's. That is what our young group is working on, getting bigger KPI differentials. This will benefit the young group going forward. We may not win premierships, finals or very many games but as long as I can quote stats which our group out performed the opposition group Sticks has told me im safe

Mike called our players soft. Ratts responded with a stat, we gave Sydney 31 games start.

They are laying into Ratts.

You can put money on Warnock playing this week also.

Thought they put him under the pump a fair bit. Looked to be struggling a little e.g Gibbs

Ratten basically made the following points after being grilled on the obvious issues:

- Poor form
- Low confidence
- Enough talent
- Ball in our court
- Masters of our own fate
- Nothing out of the usual in response/questions from board
- Doesn't think the team is soft, stated gap in games experience per Sydney player
- Lots of stats showing that after first quarter, performance was better
- Poor execution and poor contested footy early cost us
- Thinks Judd is the best contested player in the comp, but not in good form either and has become a little disjointed in terms of the team structure due to the associate drop in self-confidence
- Hadley and McLean not being fit/up to scratch is not helping the cause for blocks for Judd
- Feels as though the biggest thing hurting the team is the number of turnovers and having to defend these, as well as scores conceeded from stoppages
- Feels that while Betts-centric up forward recently, have had other avenues to goal
- Feels keeping Waite & Bower in the team is crucial to success for the remainder of the season
- Happy with Murph's output; pointed out his lack of pre-season
- Not happy with Gibbs' last month of form
- We have deflated our own confidence at the start of the game with shots on goal, disposal and 50/50 contests
- Garlett, Yarran, Betts, Russell, Simpson, Scotland improved
- Warnock extremely close to selection

Hardly a stat mentioned in the 15 minutes. Very un-Ratten.

One of my main criticism's which he struggled to answer. "Which players have improved this year" Ratts came up with Yarran, Garlett, Russell, Scotland, Betts and Simpson!!! and he had to think hard. :banghead:

That's what I call developing our youngsters. :yikes:

The question was "which players have improved on last year"

Weak Ratts....the fish rots from the head....show some bloody strong leadership man !!!!!!!!

He answered well enough. Not sure what more could've been expected from such a question.

It really pains me to see ratts in this position. He's Carlton through and through, but he's struggling. Throroughly unconvincing tonight.

Had a chance to make a statement when Mike said this.... one way or the other.

a) Yes Mike we have to cop that, some of our blokes don't go hard enough and that is a challenge to every one of the carlton side this week.

or

b) Mike that is a ridiculous statement. When it is their turn to go, every one of them will go without a backwards step. I have total faith in my players

instead he goes with, they have more experince than us. 31 games on average.

message to players: its ok to go half-hearted, you're young and inexperienced.

This is precisely where this Ratts fails appallingly.... How would Alistair Clarkson or Malthouse have reacted to that question?

Not that it matters one iota, but Ratts has lost me totally. Sitting watching him 'on the couch', I felt as much anger towards him as I did 3 years ago when watching Pagan being interviewed. He repeated as nauseum that they have to get their confidence back and improve our skills.... How are you going about fixing these problems Brett????

:? Disagree with that statement. I thought he was very straightforward.

What he didn't do was what all the anti-Ratts group wanted, take all the blame himself and throw himself on the the sword for our viewing edification.

Probably not a good idea if he lets everyone know, just because he's on the couch.

Mmmm,
have to admit, it didn't leave me confident that we'll fly out of the box on Sat. nite. :?

My first question.......'Brett your season has spiralled out of control. Despite getting plenty of the ball your side cannot score and have been uncompetitive even against apparent inferior sides. It would also appear you've lost the players judging by recent heartless and spineless performances. Why should you still be senior coach of the Blues?

Thankfully for Gerard, Mike and James they didn't embarass themselves by asking this.

Gerard did ask why we're not in crisis though (after Ratts said our aim is to make the finals) and Ratten pointed out again that we're in the 8 with an 8-8 record and a percentage over 100. The ball is in our court.

Mike did call us soft, to which Ratten pointed out that Sydney have an average of 31 games more experience, which is a very valid point.

After quarter time we had more inside 50's and matched them for scoring shots.

So yeh, our forwardline structure is falling down after years relying on Fev. It was working well earlier this year, but has fallen away. Waite has been in and out, Henderson is new to the club (as well as still only being 20 and played a handful of games forward).

Put your hand if you thought we were going to fix our forward structure this year?

Overall, I was pleased that he's acknowledged our confidence being down and that slow starts contribute to that as I think they're major reasons for our slump.
