This is as good as last week's "the Blues will have to work hard to earn a top 4 spot" line

If Ratts did his stats homework he would know Sydney fade in games. The contest was in the first half of which I watched a rabble.

We lost against the Bulldogs, North & Sydney who have good inside midfielders. Can anyone explain to me why Ratten keeps playing a team full of outside midfielders vs teams with talented inside midfilders, Hadley (for all of his lack of pace) provides opportiunities. Ellard would have been good enough in that role this week. Frustrating.

Also quoted from Ratten...."It's an inability to defend a bit at the moment more than actually scoring all the time"..... Ummm dunno if anyone has actually told him, but to win games you have to actually SCORE...
Ratten has been talking about this tactic for weeks it is obviously his one and only game plan...Not good enough too many excuses, time for some new leadership with a new coach.....

OMFG
Ratts says,

Quote:
"I think we sit about fifth for scoring in the competition. It's an inability to defend a bit at the moment more than actually scoring all the time."

Umm....Our last 5 games have seen us kick about 5 goals total in 5 first quarters of footy. I call that inability to score.

Miscellaneous rants:

Was quite bemused at one stage to see Joseph and Walker following their men into the midfiekd, and Gibbs dragged to full back on Goodes. I'm sure Roos enjoyed it also.

Half way through the first Robbo (I think) led perfectly at Grigg, who held it, and held it, and ran, and ran, and ignored Robbo, and then turned it over.

Murphy is not having an impact on games. Watched him specifically at times today and he lacks intensity and effort. If Ratten really wants to make a statement he could do worse than drop Murphy, a la Lyon with Dal Santo.

Joseph is hopeless, shouldn't be in the team.

Grigg and Hampson aren't the answers.

Surely Ratten doesn't tell the players to move the ball slowly and avoid the corridoor? Surely. And if he doesn't, why isn't his actual message being heeded?

One thing good about Ratts was when he came out at the start of the season and said the pass mark for this season was to make the 8 and win a final...so lets just wait and see what happens....if he fails I'm sure he will do the right thing..

Don't count on it. In his presser soemone asked him if he felt his position was under pressure. He got angry, his ears flapped, and he said "no, none of you guys had us in the 8 this year did you?". Pissweak answer.

I agree with Ratts. Our defense is actually just as pressing an issue (if not more) than our forward line trouble. What the mids and defenders are not doing is very worrying. It's unaccountable, dumb football and going completely against what they implemented in their wins over Geelong, St.Kilda and Adelaide.

"CARLTON coach Brett Ratten says the lack of confidence that has plagued his side for the past month may finally be over, despite a 39-point loss to the Sydney Swans at Etihad Stadium." ( from our website)

This is a comment from the same coach who suggested Eddie Betts was in "all australian form" after three games of 5 goals, 4 goals and 5 goals ( with the majority of these goals in junk time when we had already been thrashed)

It is time that the club stood up and made a statement The Carlton of old would not have stood for this the board would be arranging his final cheque as we spent time venting.

The players need a coach that will demand better of them than the insipid performances that have plagued us on and off all year.

I loved Ratts as a player but Collingwood loved Shawy too it didn't stop them sacking him when they realised he wasn't up to the job of coaching.

I'm still sure he will do the right thing if the aims HE set are not met...
