It's just an observation and not backed up empirical data, but have you noticed the growth of the Crows and Tigers since their coaches have decided to sit on the boundary and teach and engender some enthusiasm in their young players?

For too long I have had an issue with the coaches perception of aloofness sitting up in the box.

I think for Ratten's sake it would be worth a try. Some of these young blokes need explanations. I am serious, the young men of today are different from past eras.

There is said to be a double meaning in the 'Y' generation. Let them know 'why' they have mucked up, or done really well. Praise gets you a long way.

Have a look at Neil Craig last night with arms over the shoulders of the guys on the bench. It might have been contrived, but it looked united.

I think those blokes would have felt a million bucks at the point in time.

sounds good - who do we leave in the box?

Sticks...

Its one thing to have a difference of opinion
Its another to deflect the real issues at hand by attacking the poster

Fact is we play the Swans tomorrow
Fact is we will see what happens
Fact is that there are problems which I believe are stopping this club from developing into a premiership team
Fact is we have 2 clubs coming into the AFL who the AFL want to be successful and if you cant see that you are a !@#$%& moron which means that

IF the problems are fixed with action the we will be in the abyss for another decade

To the poster who responded to my post by saying I am a martyr and quoting me

Why dont you show yourself in a better light and say what you think of Hoops and back it up with some knowledge about the game.

A long time ago i realised you and i have a different way of supporting the blues. Not sure who is right and who is wrong but lately i dont even know what you are on about.

I will try to tell you
I have been a secondary teacher in a low socio economic area for 20 years. I have no aspirations to go any further because as Harry Callahan said in Magnum Force a man has to know his limitations. Yet so many people I work with either past and present in positions of power havent got a clue. They are fighting out of their weight division.

Why is this. Many reasons I suppose.

Thing is as I have got old  it shits me more. They reckon you become more like your parents as you get older and there is nothing you can do about it.

So when I see a coach with one game plan in the most important game of the season when he has had 3 years to come up with more than one it shits me.

I just reckon things wont improve. Yeah we will win a few along the way but overall we wont get there unless we change our personel.

Thing is you cant win a flag unless you have the right people in the right positions.

Not in TODAYS AFL environment
Not like 1995

This is a quote from Mathew Lloyd's article on Hardwick in the Sunday Age:
Quote:
I listened to Mark Harvey speak at the 10-year anniversary of the Essendon* 2000 premiership last Sunday night, and one key point he made was this - you can have all the structures and team rules you like, but have if you don't have a fierce desire or a hunger for a brutal contest, structures mean absolutely nothing.

Should be the mantra of the coaching staff because in too many games, stats, process, set ups are the mantra, when the first thing we need to get right is matching or exceeding our opponents intensity.

I don't think there is a pass mark for Ratts.
I think he has already failed as a teacher from what I have seen so far this year.

I am not so concerned about people whinging that we are soft... knowing what an AFL player puts in just to stay on a list I would never consider them 'soft'.

But we need a great teacher, we need footy smarts, we need ruthless execution.
We need to be talked about as a clever, competitive team that can become the best.

I don't think Ratts is that person.

Yes the list still needs work, yes the players need to take responsibility and get a big wakeup call,
But I dont feel that Ratts is our next premiership coach.

How long we wait to make a change is anyone's guess.
Given Kernahan's track record I assume it will be a long time.

A pass mark for this year would be an improvement on last season. So that means we play finals and win at least one final. Anything less than that and it is a failure.

And Ratts and other players have stated that is the aim.

It's looking very unlikely to happen - therefore action should be taken.

I think others above Ratten have failed the club not just the coach.
