I can't believe this comment, Thornton has held the backline together since he was a skinny 19 year old, playing against the best full forwards of the day. The guy bleeds navy blue, despite what you lot think. Never been reported, injured during games and wears his heart on his sleeve. The above quote is disgraceful.
He is done.
Fickle and uninfored Carlton followers make such comments !!
I agree with you BlueRo.
T-Bird has held our defence together for the best part of a decade. I can guarantee he has played with injuries that Jamo & Bower would not even consider playing with. Not sure which games this match committee have been watching but he has been quite good over the last month. Jamo has been atrocious and yet he continues to get a game. I suppose when you are placed in the leadershio group getting dropped would be a reflection on those who appointed you in the first place.
T-bird can play on talls or smalls and can also go forward if required. His disposal is as good as any player in the side. Jamo can only play on the last line and his disposal and decision making is questionable at best.
Anyway lets wait and see how it plays out against the Swans.
T-Bird was dominant in the Ants game against Werribee last night.
Whilst I agree that the total writing off of T-Bird is unwarranted, despite everything that has been said we are a much better team without him in it (See Saints game last year, and Cats and Saint games this year)
He may have reasonable disposal, which is mainly due to him kicking sideways to a player on thier own, however he slows our movement out of defence and he takes the safe option 9 times out of 10. Plus, how many times can you recall T-Bird tucking the ball under the arm and sprinting at full pace? I've seen him with an open corridor in front of hime many times before and he still jogs along at 60-70% and then kicks to a player on the wing or forward flank - we don't need this, we need players who can be direct and spot up someone in our F50 before the other team has a chance to flood back.
I'm not writing T-Bird off just yet as he still has a chance to try to change his game style, however when I found out he was dropped for this week I reckon our chances in this game increased substantially.
It will be a different side out there today.
Blues by 26pts.
